I am, I know it's a slow process but it's going to get lighter!

Hot sunny global warming days please.

Winter can fuck off.

SirChenjins · 21/12/2024 17:44

Me!! Can’t wait for the longer days and to feel the warmth of the sun on my face. Bring it on!

Sinkintotheswamp · 21/12/2024 17:46

Totally. Hate the dark and cold. It feels worse since the council turned down the streetlights, I have to use a torch to navigate a shitty estate so I don't trip over anything.

oakleaffy · 21/12/2024 17:46

Happy Winter Solstice, Everyone !

HermoinePotter · 21/12/2024 17:47

By 31st January the sun will set an hour later than today, by 28th February it won’t set until nearly 6pm. I’m getting excited thinking about having light nights again.

Agree- I live in a 19th Century city street and the Stygian gloom is risky.

I took a nasty fall on soggy cardboard that an idiot had left outside their house.

Thankfully nothing broken but had to go home to clean up.

A torch is essential.

Porcuporpoise · 21/12/2024 17:49

I'm happy we're here but spring still fees a looong way away. 🙃

Snowdrops!
They will soon be here..Love their drifts.

Birdscratch · 21/12/2024 17:51

I am now you’ve told me! I find it so depressing when it’s dark all the time.

The wind is booming in my chimney- It can be quite cozy , but I pity those homeless and those at Sea on nights like this.

Yes !!!!!

Vettrianofan · 21/12/2024 17:55

So happy we are getting closer to spring and summer again...get more choice of ice lollies in the shops.

Dontcallmescarface · 21/12/2024 17:56

I am. I hate the long nights and short miserable days. Give me a hot summer anytime...at least the rain's warmer then. 😁

oakleaffy · 21/12/2024 17:57

Laiste · 21/12/2024 17:40

Yes YES YES !! Me!

The dark is getting me down. It's hard to drive the muddy narrow lanes round here in the dark with the full beams on and the holes and the rain.

Hooray for the light (my username celebrates light)

One Christmas Eve we had to drive to someone’s workshop on a farm-
Rutted track, me opening gates, sideways rain blowing in the full beams, Rat’s eyes glinting in the yard ( Rats knew when workers all cleared off home)

It was very eerie in the wind and rain.

Auburngal · 21/12/2024 17:57

It takes a while for you to notice the longer days. Usually by New Year, you notice.

Delatron · 21/12/2024 18:03

I hate the dark evenings/afternoons. I feel like although we’ve hit the shortest day it still takes ages to feel like we have more light. It actually gets darker in the mornings until Jan. Ridiculous.

For me it being light at 5pm is significant- I start to feel a bit better then. That’s not until February (sob).

I love light evenings when I can be outside doing things. And I have much more energy when I wake up to the sunlight rather than pitch black.

Sounds like the road up to our house! Do i know you? 😂

Vergus · 21/12/2024 18:07

Yes me, it is cheering to think we’re back on the road again after today.

AlbertCamusflage · 21/12/2024 18:11

Thank you for posting this, OP. I hadn't realised it was today, and it is cheering. The dark evenings make me feel weird. Like the world is a hostile place. And this pre-Christmas period is grim in other ways too.
Hopefully once Christmas hits we can hunker down in to a cosy indoorsness, and once that is over we will already have a minute or so's extra day length to remind us that spring really is an actual thing that will happen one day.

AnneElliott · 21/12/2024 18:13

Yes me too. I love the idea that the days get longer from now on. Hate the really short days.

MaryGreenhill · 21/12/2024 18:15

Hell yes!

rosehipstalk · 21/12/2024 18:19

Yes!!!! so happy this is the end point of dark evenings. I always feel so much better when we get to this date because it feels like spring and summer are only round the corner- hurrah!

TwinkleLights24 · 21/12/2024 18:19

It seems to have gone so quickly since the clocks changed but it’s nice to know we will be slowly be back on the way to lighter nights.

NormanBateslonglosttwin · 21/12/2024 18:21

I love the winter solstice as we are pagans and have a festive celebration for the return of the sun and Celtic spring starting soon. Food, lihts and lots of mead.😁🍻

Funnywonder · 21/12/2024 18:23

Oh I'm excited!! I announced it to DS2 this morning when I tried, unsuccessfully, to get him out of bed. I think it may have piqued his interest though, because he definitely grunted😆
