Odd wanky Christmas food

I’m finishing off my online food order and think I might have found the oddest Christmas food - sticky toffee cheddar cheese. I can’t even imagine what it tastes like. Sadly I’m too late to order it.

Any other odd food combinations out there that I’ve missed hiding from the shops this year!

I've always thought mincemeat was an odd thing for anyone to like...it's so bitter and sweet!

But then our Christmas tradition is tongue and pork pie for breakfast like our Victorian ancestors did so perhaps I'm being hypocritical!

As a Northener, I instistively thought of Booths and got the website up. Within ten seconds I found fig and orange tarte tatin. More horrors may lurk within.

It might be quite nice. But it's certainly a bit out of the way. But then, I've been living abroad under a rock for 24 years so fig and orange tarte tatin might have been commonplace in Lytham St Annes for decades.

I've had sticky toffee cheese! I don't normally like stuff in cheese (eg fruit), but it was surprisingly good.

I can’t imagine that tart tartin is going to be great tbh.

Theres nothing odd about this?

Its not comparable to toffee cheddar

Its just a fruit tarte tatin

soupfiend · 18/12/2024 19:26

Am I missing something here, what is odd or not nice about figs and oranges?

I give you as an example of odd, fish paste and jam sandwiches.

Thats odd.

But... but...Think about it! Why not serve it with a pumpkin pie martini chaser? It would be lovely OP! I love puréed pumpkin with my rum and vodka, splash of cream and digestive biscuit crumbs around the rim of the glass! Then you have your fig and orange upside down pie avec. I love it! I do!

Booths knows everything.

Is the pumpkin martini odd enough?

Fish paste & jam sandwiches? The ghost of Mrs Cropley lives on!

I don't know about odd or wanky, but aren't sugar almonds fucking horrible?

Plump82 · 18/12/2024 19:35

Sticky toffee cheddar is gorgeous, especially on a slice of granny smith apple.

EmberAsh · 18/12/2024 19:35

I've had sticky toffee cheese and it was delicious. Not sure why anyone thinks that tart is strange. It's a very normal combination of flavours.

GameOfJones · 18/12/2024 19:37

Sticky toffee cheddar sounds awful. Stop ruining perfectly good cheese by putting random stuff in it! 🤣

The Aldi chocolate and clementine fake Baileys also looks awful.

Bread sauce whoever thought of that was clearly fucking starving with a water leak

Heresy! I love bread sauce!

mauvish · 18/12/2024 19:45

Chocolate covered stilton balls with a port-flavoured ooze in the middle.

Some supermarket, circa 1985. (The memory lives on!)

NO!!! they are delicious...sucking away at the sugary outer then crunching the last bit into the almond

I love bread sauce, especially with roast ham

Each to their own, but I think covering almonds in sugar is a horrible way to treat a very nice nut.
