Odd wanky Christmas food

I’m finishing off my online food order and think I might have found the oddest Christmas food - sticky toffee cheddar cheese. I can’t even imagine what it tastes like. Sadly I’m too late to order it.

Any other odd food combinations out there that I’ve missed hiding from the shops this year!

Booths slander!!!

Agreed with pp re: bread sauce. Mehhhhh.

Sticky toffee cheese reminds me of one year when I was a young child and given that brown cheese (Brunost?) I thought it was caramel/toffee, so took a massive bite. I've heard it's lovely but I've been put off it for life, I fear.

KnopkaPixie · 18/12/2024 21:24

Right, I'm off to bed but if anybody makes that fig and orange upside down pie with success, I want photographic evidence.

Bread sauce whoever thought of that was clearly fucking starving with a water leak

Oooh yes liquid bread. Absolutely disgusting concept

I love bread sauce when it's hot - as soon as it starts to cool it's as grim as it looks.

It’s not liquid bread though. It’s infused with cream and bay, nutmeg, peppercorns, salt and onion.
Have you never had bread pudding ? Or stuffing?

Bread sauce looks absolutely rank. Being Irish it’s not something that’s served here but even if it was I’d be giving it a swerve. I remember watching delia at Christmas and her making it and it’s basically hot soggy bread. Can’t imagine what it’s supposed to add to the plate. I will also say I can’t abide bread pudding. Again soggy bread has no place in my life

We are Irish and always had it as children!

greengreyblue · 18/12/2024 21:37

If you haven’t had it you can’t comment!

stargazerlil · 18/12/2024 21:39

Farts. Oh sorry I mean Sprouts.

ChampagneLassie · 18/12/2024 21:40

M&S did some Prosecco flavour crisps with glitter a few years ago 🤮

Beemail2 · 18/12/2024 21:42

Cauliflower cheese. Sold as part of a Christmas Dinner?????

invisiblebark · 18/12/2024 21:48

This year, it seems pigs in blankets are the thing.

Everything is wrapped in bacon.

I love Bacon, but it's too much.

Hash brown pigs in blankets
Halloumi pigs in blankets

Any type of normal product. Wrap it in Bacon. Pigs in Blankets.

Aldi has some horror cheeses in their xmas range -

Bombay spiced Red Leicester
Cheddar with wasabi
Cheddar with fudge
Cheddar with pickled onion

... I could go on 🤢

Leave the cheese alone! It doesn't need weird stuff mixed into it!

And they've got weird chutney with gin in to go with them Envy

I've just seen these freaky looking things in Waitrose - there was a whole shelf full of them in the reduced to clear section.... can't think why 🤔

Reduced from £8 (wtf) to £1.99 in my Waitrose today 😂

Chocolately · 18/12/2024 21:58

Orange and fig tarte tatin? Hello? That just won't work.
When have you ever eaten orange pie, or orange crumble? No, it's all wrong I tell you. Ffs.

livingafulllife · 18/12/2024 22:09

All things that start with christmas are wanky.

It’s fig ! Lovely roasted. They go all syrupy. Probably the zest and juice of orange used .

I don't know about odd or wanky, but aren't sugar almonds fucking horrible?

Noooo they're amazing especially the ones coated in chocolate and then then the sugar outer coating

ivyleafgeranium · 18/12/2024 22:23

Yes- the pigs in blankets obsession this year. Pigs in blankets on a pizza. I mean yes but NO. It's fat wrapped in fat on a bed of cheese fat. Also, has anyone had that KFC burger with the slab of stuffing on top? The ad reminds me why I'm glad there's no KFC near us! But maybe it's lovely...

ilovepixie · 18/12/2024 22:27

Sainsburys used to do a toffee cheese. It was lovely.

Blueuggboots · 18/12/2024 22:30

Sticky toffee cheese is bloody lovely and I've been struggling to find it?!

I love cheese. The only variety I'm not keen on is Brie, unless it's a really good one. But we often have some in anyway, because my DH likes it. He puts up with my Roquefort and Harrogate Blue whiffing out the fridge, so he can have his Brie. My favourite is probably Wensleydale, but I also love Cheshire, Snowdonia cheese (especially Red Storm and Black Bomber) Stilton, and Coverdale (a Yorkshire cheese) Reiver (a Borders variety and any Cheddar if it's good. TBH, if there was a religion devoted to cheese, I'd sign up 😋

Coverdale! I haven't had that in years. Where do you buy it from?

ProvincialLady24 · 18/12/2024 22:34

Sticky toffee cheddar is a modern thing. No one with taste would order it.

Tesco is your friend @Blueuggboots

Lewis and Cooper in Northallerton have it and so does Harvey's Cheese and Chutneys in the Shambles market in York.

TheChosenTwo · 18/12/2024 22:54

Perhaps not quite as out there as you were expecting but dd1 and I just went late night shopping in M&S and she convinced me to buy the pistachios covered in chocolate 🤢
I may be biased as I don’t really like nuts of any kind but they were not good imo! She loved them though.
