How much did your Christmas Food Shop Cost

Twothinkthat · 18/12/2024 10:39

Just that really.

Am cooking for six - Christmas Eve until Boxing Day and am quite chuffed that I’ve got everything in for just under £300 (including booze and nibbles etc)

I feel like this hasn’t changed much in years, even if my usual shopping costs are going through the roof.

So am curious, how much have others spent on the Christmas food shop?

OP posts:

I've only done the treats/sweets/crisps/ chocolate tubs/fizzy drinks and that was £150.
6 of us.
Will be doing the food shop friday

MaltipooMama · 18/12/2024 14:50

Exactly the same for me OP! Everything cost just less than £300 (this is for me and my partner and our one year old), including all meats and trimmings for Christmas Day, party food for buffets and drinks/alcohol. Got some really lovely stuff from the Sainsbury's and M&S food to go so I'm really pleased with this!

slightlydistrac · 18/12/2024 14:53

I'm getting it in dribs and drabs so I can't really remember, but 4 adults Christmas Day and 3 Boxing Day, and I should easily have change left over from £100.

there's three of us, but it's food for Christmas Eve, the Day and then enough for leftovers (hopefully) - £140, with some extra snacky bits already purchased.

goingtohellinahandcart · 18/12/2024 14:59

About £250 including booze for 6 adults(including dd1s partner who is a bottomless pit🤣, I don't know how he eats so much and remains skinny!), being 6ft 3 might have something to do with

MyPithyPoster · 18/12/2024 15:05

Last year the Waitrose shop was 250 quid with no alcohol for three adults and one child.
What do we think? Is it gone up or down?
I was hoping if it’s just the same, I would be okay with that

DazedAndConfused321 · 18/12/2024 15:22

About £500 - but that was with all pre-prepared sides and all meat from the butcher. It includes wine but not all booze, and I need to get in nibbles and snacks and some party food for the Chrimbo Limbo and Christmas eve

jackadoo1 · 22/12/2025 17:15

Around 300 I think. Hosting 6 on Christmas Day and then some grazing food for a few days after.

Kneeboobs · 22/12/2025 17:41

Shocking prices this year, I don’t cook Christmas dinner or Boxing Day and takeaway Christmas Eve so literally a few days of staple meals, cheese and crackers for 3 for a week, nuts and some party food, lots of pop £240!! And only went Asda and Iceland so nothing fancy.

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 22/12/2025 17:44

£150ish which I had budgeted for so thrilled it came in on budget!

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 22/12/2025 17:47

M&S 150. Turkey beef joint and trimming for 7 people

Aldi. Chocs and some longer lasting stuff. Probs £60

Waitrose. Ham £30. That's more for Boxing Day and beyond.

Booze got Plenty here already.
Dh gone to Costco to get beers tho so prob another £30

I think k if I really added it all up 250:300 but we will have left overs for Boxing Day.

blankcanvas3 · 22/12/2025 17:53

£500 I think but DH did most of the shopping and went a bit mental in M&S. I don’t know what I’m going to do with 100 pigs in blankets. There’s 10 of us on Christmas day

DrPrunesqualer · 22/12/2025 17:58

After reading through I’m guessing meat must be really expensive

Snacks for Christmas Eve, everything for Christmas Day and Boxing Day including alcohol ( beer, baileys and wine….we mainly drink my home made mead. we have lots of other stuff like gin, whiskey already so not included )

Our bill after shopping in Aldi and Lidl is under £150
We are vegetarian and a family of 5 adults.

may have to pop out for another bottle ( or two) of Bailey’s and some chocs and we polished some off on a mammoth Risk game at the weekend

Gardener82 · 22/12/2025 18:02

Around £300, That’s for three of us on Christmas Day and six on Boxing Day. We are going out for a meal on Christmas Eve and that’ll be another £150.
Ridiculous really considering it’s just a pimped up roast dinner.
It’s all being delivered tomorrow so at least I don’t have to go to a supermarket.

the80sweregreat · 22/12/2025 18:06

338 , but 60 of that was alcohol ( spirts , wine, mixers)
I also spent some back in late November too ( chocolates and tinned food, a frozen crown Turkey) so probably more than that tbh!

TartanTwit · 22/12/2025 18:15

About 110 quid total, which includes three of us for breakfast, (smoked salmon and posh eggs and bagels) then chicken dinner plus beef brisket and a posh pudding for two of us later. might buy some prawns for a starter and tbh earlier on did just spend 12 on a box of celebrations and some crisps but keeping it simple as poss as it's been a difficult year and everyone is an adult or young adult who doesn't want much of a fuss. Strolled into Tesco at 3pm yesterday and got main stuff all in and out in 20 mins, but that's as we were happy to go with what was there, not specific things for specific recipes etc on this occasion. That also includes a bottle of whisky, I'll probably get a bottle of gin before then but none of us are wine or fizz fans and we have quite a few other boozy things already to go at. I should add I've spent that total on the posh turkey in years past, so I have enjoyed entertaining and cooking but it's just not feasible or wanted this year.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/12/2025 18:18

Round about £400 for 3 adults Xmas Eve and Xmas day , 4 adults Boxing Day and enough to last till 29th when we go away , includes all booze. £280 in a mix of butchers, Waitrose, M&S- £120 at majestic

mondaytosunday · 22/12/2025 18:20

£300 which includes Boxing Day roast (the turkey, ham and pigs came to £80) and some of those party platter thingys. Wine separate. Three adults. Sure it could be way less but this is the time if year we indulge!

Higher welfare meat and poultry is expensive. I bought a good quality free range 5kg turkey for £73 and I think that's a very fair price to pay for giving a bird you're going to eat a decent life before it's killed.

Dreamingofthree · 22/12/2025 18:35

£150 food
£15 meat (butcher sausages and bacon)

dm is bringing the turkey

it’s Xmas shopping and a weeks normally groceries.

key saving is we don’t drink.

3 adults and 2 kids

sloth75 · 22/12/2025 18:46

About £540 for 4 of us, me, dp, and 2 adult bottomless pits ds'.

includes 2 x baileys, few bottles of wine, some crates of corona and dark fruits. Party food for Christmas Eve, Christmas Lunch and supper, Boxing Day lunch and supper plus nibbles.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 22/12/2025 18:52

£450 with booze and cheese for the week inbetween as well.

JazzyBBBG · 22/12/2025 19:01

£200 and I'm not even home 3 of the days!

Sunnyside4 · 22/12/2025 19:02

£125 max for food - 5 - Xmas Day into Boxing Day morning, then just of us the rest of the time. Spent £60 on booze, but DH can't drink now over Xmas, so that'll last us ages. This will cover us from Xmas Eve to New Year's Eve with other things we have.

Justcallmedaffodil · 22/12/2025 19:04

£300 for this week’s Ocado shop which is around £100 higher than normal. Then another £96 at M&S Food for the turkey and dessert for Christmas Day (which is the only day we’re hosting).
