How much did your Christmas Food Shop Cost

Just that really.

Am cooking for six - Christmas Eve until Boxing Day and am quite chuffed that I’ve got everything in for just under £300 (including booze and nibbles etc)

I feel like this hasn’t changed much in years, even if my usual shopping costs are going through the roof.

So am curious, how much have others spent on the Christmas food shop?

I have spent around £40 and that includes chocolate treats for 2 of us ,plus crisps etc. I now have hardly anything to buy as we have everything we need. We are not drinkers and all I need is a lovely bottle of juice. We got our turkey crown today.

Moonlightfrog · 22/12/2025 20:43

More than I thought but I guess if you consider it’s a weeks worth of food (I usually spend £70 a week) it’s not too bad.

3 of us plus one extra for Xmas day.
£110 with Ocado
£15 on a Iceland Turkey crown
£60 at the farm shop which included a beef joint and some cheese.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/12/2025 20:53

Food-wise about £100 in M&S today for turkey crown, pigs in blankets, stuffing and cream - but did have a £50 voucher. Veg/potatoes from Morrisons and a Christmas pudding yesterday was about £20. There’s a cheese delivery coming on Christmas Eve which was about £70. Alcohol, crisps, After Eights, other bits and bobs have been bought in dribs and drabs, and we still need fresh bread for with soup and ingredients for a cheesecake.

We’re three adults for Christmas lunch, an extra two in the evening for cheese, and plan for a second Christmas dinner on Boxing Day with the leftovers.

€500 including alcohol. Yikes!

LoopyGremlin · 22/12/2025 22:07

About £500 for 10 people. That’s Christmas Day and breakfast on Boxing Day.

CNDflag · 22/12/2025 23:34

We spent £220 in Sainsburys earlier, but got about £70 off with nectar points. OH going back again tomorrow to get more booze.

smallglassbottle · 22/12/2025 23:46

About £60 on top of what we normally buy. There's only the four of us and we haven't bought stuff like posh cheeses, crackers, lots of alcohol, a turkey and stuff like that. Dh bought a bottle of sherry and ds1 gave a bottle of ginger mead. We're just having a roast chicken.

Wincher · 22/12/2025 23:51

My Sainsbury’s shop is coming tomorrow which is about £250 (just remembered I normally spend the nectar points on the Christmas shop but forgot!). Turkey is separate, that was £50. Wine and beer also on top of this though hoping guests will bring booze! We still aren’t totally sure who’s here for what but planning on cooking for 9 on Christmas Day and potentially 15 on Boxing Day. Hoping the shop coming tomorrow will do us through to Saturday morning anyway.

RAPSMom · 23/12/2025 00:01

Christmas Eve cooking Christmas Dinner for 4 adults & 2 picky GC. Christmas Day just the two us… Boxing Day, the same people as Christmas Eve….
Ocado - £120
Tesco - almost £400
Waitrose - hubby went no idea how much he spent…
that’s without alcohol…
There should be enough left (hopefully for New Years Day) and to be able to freeze for more meals for just the two of us…

mrsfollowill · 23/12/2025 00:05

Mine is coming tomorrow eve 8.30-9.30 by Ocado- I missed the cut off - normally get my shop on Tuesday night but forgot to fine tune last night- it is over £400 but has loads of booze on it. Got the meat from the butcher and in the freezer 2 weeks ago. Have a Tesco Express 3 mins walk from my house so got a list to go tomorrow for stuff I forgot. I've checked tonight what is on the order and it not bad- got most of what I need. Before I'm accused of being 'tone deaf' and not reading the room I know it is a lot of money but 3 adults who work full time live in this house and we are going to have a good time for the next 2 weeks.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 23/12/2025 00:05

I got two hampers from the butchers which is to feed 6 adults and 2 kids which came to £160. That Included sprouts, carrots, onions, potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, plus 4kg turkey, silverside of beef, a tonne of kilted sausages, 3 different types of stuffing plus we got 2 x £10 off vouchers to use in January. So I think that was a bargain for very good meat.

Tomorrow will be the extra bits shop which will include the booze so that'll be £££

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 23/12/2025 00:10

Family of 5 no booze £168, that includes 2 joints of meat, lots of veg, deserts, food for brunch, lots of meats and cheeses and snacks to do us over 4/5 days. Still need some fresh berries. I had a big birthday recently so got lots of booze as gifts, but even if we didn’t DH and I are not big drinkers over Christmas. Plus we will pay for a takeaway Christmas Eve.

Is there a reason you don't have things like nice cheeses, crackers,a turkey etc? I think Christmas is the time to be a bit extravagant and make the meal extra special with nice things you perhaps wouldn't normally have. I often do a roast chicken throughout the year so for the Christmas meal I always do a turkey even if not many are there, it freezes well and you can make lots of different meals with the leftovers.

Cornishclio · 23/12/2025 00:12

Only 3 of us Christmas Day and 7 Boxing Day. Around £200 with wine, food and nibbles.

Too expensive really. The cost of food is just insane now. Dh was going to get a duck, but it was £20, so just got the chicken. I got some of those candy floss grapes though as they're nice.

caringcarer · 23/12/2025 01:49

I've picked up several smaller Xmas shops and having a delivery tomorrow and collecting turkey crown later in day, DH has sourced alcohol but I don't keep track of how much I've spent because it cost what it cost.

PollyDarton1 · 23/12/2025 02:06

I had a Sainsbury’s order on Sunday which was £250 and had most of the essentials for Christmas in, bar the meat which my Mum has bought and frozen. So cheeses, crisps, pate, party food, veg, but also stuff to make meals post Christmas.

I am picking up a Waitrose food order tomorrow which will be £150 and has the garnishes for the meal (pigs in blankets, stuff in) as well as smoked salmon, two desserts, cheese board. I’ve already paid a £50 deposit so that is £200 all in.

We don’t drink, but I’ve got a few bottles of 0% alcohol. Christmas eve/day it’ll be me and DH at my Mums, my son is with his dad until the 26th. On Boxing Day we are going for a big family meal and the party food from the Sainsburys order is for when we come home for the evening.

I would estimate I’ve spent about £500 for 3 adults, one child. We don’t drink but I do like to treat my Mum particularly at Xmas.

TheChosenTwo · 22/12/2025 19:29

Will be about £1500 all in. Tescos deliver was £600 today, butchers was £350, majestics was £400 and there are a few odds and sods that need getting that I forgot to add to the food shop.
we are hosting a little pre Christmas drinks afternoon on Wednesday and then around 20
for Christmas dinner and an additional 10
in the evening.
So it sounds a lot but actually it goes a long way.

I was so glad when I saw this , I was panicking. I’ve set a budget for £2000 this year and have come in ok though a few last bits to get tomorrow

mind you that’s for 8 adults and 3 children for Christmas Eve/day/boxing day

there will be plenty left to go towards new year budgeting another 200 fir top up shop to cover that.

sparkleghost · 23/12/2025 02:50

£133! That’s for Christmas dinner inc a small Turkey serving 6-7 and all the trimmings (15p veggies, thank you Sainsburys!), stuff to make reindeer bark, stuff to make leftover Turkey curry, nice cream, butter, a Turkey tray & foil, goose fat… and some nice treats like nuts in the shell and stollen etc. We’re a family of 3 and it’s all gluten free as it’s my first Christmas as a coeliac, which has pushed the price up. Haven’t bought any booze yet (DS is approaching 3 so it’s been a dry-ish couple of years and the booze cabinet is already well stocked!) but might head to Aldi to grab some of their champagne tomorrow, and also need something nice for Christmas breakfast, more fruit and to do a run to the cheesemonger. Christmas pudding was made from scratch (GF version of Nigella’s ultimate) - GF suet was pricy but we already had some Pedro Ximinez left from when I made one last year.

undercovermarsupial · 23/12/2025 03:02

Three of us in the run-up, then I’m doing Christmas dinner for 7. I’ve spent around £100 including day-to-day meals for the run-up to Christmas (about 4 days worth), the Christmas Day meal itself, chocolates/crisps/mince pies/other treats, and a few beers for DH.

We’re vegetarian, which makes it cheaper, and don’t really drink alcohol (DH likes beer in very small amounts so this didn’t really increase the cost much). Did the shop at Aldi, we were lucky that there was a lot of reduced stuff to fill the freezer. I was pleasantly surprised by the cost, I know Aldi/Lidl aren’t always cheaper these days but I think it is better value for veggie stuff.

TwooooDoooozenRoses · 23/12/2025 03:05

About £200 but there’s no alcohol in that and my mother is bringing the turkey, so no cost for that either.

TheChicDreamer · 23/12/2025 03:20

£240 from Waitrose, coming today.
£100+ of meat from Ocado / butcher for Christmas Eve / Christmas Day
Wine, Champagne and spirits bought separately from various places over the last month. Probably £100+

BebbanburgIsMine · 23/12/2025 03:30

Not sure of exactly how much, but around £20-£25 for dinner for DD and me.

We already have plenty juice in the house, and neither of us drink alcohol, I suppose maybe around £30 in total, including a couple of nibbly things.

@Rosamutabilis I’m another one doing chicken. I could have afforded turkey but actually prefer the taste of chicken.

vanillalattes · 23/12/2025 09:01

An extra £50 or so on top of our usual shop.
