If it is real, then how would a wall work here?

Unless....it's a wall in France. All along the coast?

Good point!

Where we live is by the coast - I wouldn't put it past her trying to out a wall up between Portsmouth and us to stop them coming through the ferry terminal and up the motorway to the suburbs!

PickAChew · 02/01/2025 16:21

Surely we just get straight to the source and put the wall between us and Turkey. Anything is possible if you dream about it hard enough.

Non political update: My orange Egyptian has just had his 6 month post diagnosis checkup and it's much better news than expected: his gum disease has eased off so much he can come off Gabapentin (which will help his appetite) and although he has lost a little weight he has also had a mild bout of cat flu and is now eating really well again. His condition hasn't deteriorated and he won't need bloods doing until the summer.

They are, he has CKD and he's only 3, and the cat flu hit him harder than the others so I was just thinking the worst. But it's all good.

Great news Pointy

Badenoch is now calling for a national enquiry into grooming gangs.

She is forgetting that the Tory government that she served in almost entirely ignored the recommendations of the forensic, long-running independent inquiry into child sex abuse that reported in 2022

There's a thread on this. It's going the way you'd expect it to. Let me sum it up:

TL:DR: it's all Labour's fault.

DuncinToffee · 02/01/2025 19:35

I have seen it, couldn't be bothered to post some further facts as that was clearly not the purpose of that thread. Blossom tried

It’s a waste of time attempting to introduce facts into those threads. I should know better.

Brilliant news pointy, he’s so young.

Great news Pointy.

itsgettingweird · 02/01/2025 19:55

That's great news pointy. And I didn't know cats could take gabapentin!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/01/2025 19:57

Very pleased to hear your news @pointythings.

LlynTegid · 02/01/2025 19:59

Beautiful cat @pointythings glad to read your update.

They can, but it's about as good for them as it is for humans - the least worst option. Las can't take Metacam for any length of time because of his kidneys and Gabapentin is somewhat less bad in that situation. But ideally we want to get to a stage where we give him pain relief when he actually has pain (he's very vocal and obvious about that).

PandoraSox · 02/01/2025 20:10

My DH was prescribed Gabapentin. It had very, er, unfortunate side effects. I am glad your gorgeous cat can tolerate it @pointythings

He's tolerated it very well, but it's better for him to not need it. He's already on a medication to improve the way his kidneys process protein (fortunately the lower of two possible doses!) so I'm happy to be taking him off something.

Its worth posting, why let then have it all their own way?

Aside, Labour need to start getting ahead of the attacks the Cons are going for, the latest is Social Care & Ambulance turn around delays at Hospitals.

A 3 year delay before any inquiry reports is a gold mine for the Tories.

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2025 08:07

If anyone wants a good read look up Bravermans page on FB and her comment about her LBC broadcast. For once it's not full of people swooning over her and encouraging her to join reform. There's a lot of people asking if she on drugs to hallucinate a land boarder 😂 and many actually saying that they caused the issue of small boats with Brexit and they can't expect Labour to fix 14 years of their cock ups in 6 months.

It's actually a refreshing and hopeful read.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum on the Musk thread this morning.
I find the lurch to the far right in this country very worrying.

I think there are two now. One was started this morning by a brand new poster. Musk is the saviour of abused and marginised young women, apparently. It makes me sick.

MN seems to have taken a lurch to the far right too. There are a lot of old accounts being resurrected on a thread about Marcus Fakana. It is most odd.

I admire you for persisting, but these people want vilification, not facts. I was listening to someone senior in the police yesterday who made the very valid point that we shouldn't be wasting time on more expensive enquiries but instead putting resource and effort into implementing the recommendations of the enquiries that have already taken place. But that would be inconvenient and offer little opportunity to blame the current government.

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2025 10:50

I am just helping out those demanding a full blown inquiry by c&p the report Wink
