I’ve heard good things so far. What do you guys reckon to it?

Think about who would be obvious people to have cameo roles in it.

I'm not a big celebrity follower, so that wouldn't work for me; however, Cosmopolitan was the top search and names 4 people, none of whom were known by me!

It's not about celebrity!

Wishingthingsweredifferent38 · 28/11/2024 09:58

Amazinggggggg!! I had only heard amazing things so I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype (esp as I’m a huge musical fan) but wow wow wow it did, and then some!

unfortunately the fire alarm went off half way through the film (kids messing about 😒) and we had to wait outside in freezing conditions for nearly an hour which is a shame because it pulled me out of the zone

@boysmuminherts , absolutely a wow moment, but I would have been a bit peeved if people were screaming through it! Surely people can be amazed/excited/whatever without disturbing others

OK, but I hadn't heard of any of them...

Nothing to do with general celebrity, more specific than that.

agree, I didn't scream!! just internally :)

DaisyChain505 · 28/11/2024 10:21

I saw it at the weekend.

I didn’t realise it was literally a scene by scene copy of the stage show. I was stupidly expecting a normal film with a song here and there not just continuous singing of every sentence.

That being said I still enjoyed it and it is a visual masterpiece.

Fluffyhoglets · 28/11/2024 10:23

Saw it yesterday - loved it.
Hadn't seen the musical and didn't really know what it was about when I heard a review discussion which had someone with the view it was too long and self indulgent - snd others who really liked it.
Anyway the ending was stunning and really lifted my mood in the middle of a hard week!

DanielaDressen · 28/11/2024 10:25

I didn't think it was non stop singing? There was definitely spoken dialogue between songs. I don't like non stop singing films (Moulin Rouge iirc) and I can remember being glad this wasn't like that.

soberfabulous · 28/11/2024 10:39

I can't stand musicals but my 11 year old is dying to go. Will I enjoy it?!?

Probably not.

brokenwand · 28/11/2024 11:21

yes - good grief there was sooo mush singing.

I didn't know it was a musical, assured by my friend it wasn't a musical. I detest musicals

Needmorelego · 28/11/2024 11:26

I'm curious about those who say the hate and can't stand musicals - I'm curious. What exactly do you hate about them?
Telling stories through song is a very old method - think of travelling minstrels of the middle ages.
I hate horror films but that's because they literally scare me.....but musicals?
What is it about them?

Feckinlego · 28/11/2024 11:28

I enjoyed it but agree it was far too long. Loved Fiyero in it, but why was he there??? And I completely missed any cameo!!! No screaming in my cinema. What cameo?

Webbb · 28/11/2024 11:35

Fiyero was brilliantly played by the gorgeous Jonathan Bailey and is important in the storyline, remember this is only Part 1.

Google the cameo if you wish, lets not mention it on this thread in case it spoils it for people!

Well Fiyero is really important to the story, more in part 2 because of the love triangle subplot and also because of who he becomes.

Sorry!

Nobody answer me, please!

Yeah, I'd let it go, if I were you.

Needmorelego · 28/11/2024 12:08

@Feckinlego needed more Fiyero definitely 😍

TaylorSwish · 28/11/2024 12:10

I won’t watch it as the interviews with Ariana Grande and the other girl make me want to cringe to death.

Needmorelego · 28/11/2024 12:16

@TaylorSwish I saw a spoof interview and the person pretending to be Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) the fingernails kept getting longer and longer 😂

HausofHolbein · 28/11/2024 12:18

Mochudubh · 28/11/2024 11:51

Yeah, I'd let it go, if I were you.

😂I mean, come on, anyone who knows anything about Wicked will have a 50% chance at seeing this one coming a mile off...

I like musicals (well, some musicals -- more Sondheim than Lloyd-Webber), but in my experience, what people don't like about them is that they get impatient when something happens and the character stops to sing about it, thereby, as they see it, halting the action while whoever it is is belting out the high notes about being in love/moving into Mr Warbucks' mansion/discovering they're invited to their husband's mistress' mother's house for the weekend.

(I saw Wicked when it first came to London, and thought it was awful. 'Defying Gravity', 'Popular' and 'For Good' are memorable tunes, but the rest of it seemed deeply forgettable in terms of the rest of the musical, the acting, plot, sets etc.)

ObieJoyful · 28/11/2024 12:28

aveenobambino · 27/11/2024 12:13

Yes, I absolutely loved it! Big fan of musicals but didn't enjoy wicked on stage when I saw it about ten years ago but I'll definitely be booking tickets now to go again next year. I thought the film was fabulous and beautifully done.

I hated the musical. I might see this now!

MulderitsmeX · 28/11/2024 12:28

I definitely will see it at some point although probably when it streams on TV. I love the stage show and have heard the soundtrack. I knew cynthia is an excellent singer but i forgot arianna grande can really sing as her i find her pop music a bit dull.
