Some of the pilot work that surestart did resulted in early nursery places for both of my boys and were instrumental in getting DS1 in particular his diagnosis at 3 as they were able to provide supporting information that wasn't just "mam says".

Fuck Ian Hislop

With pleasure, he’s lovely.

@BIossomtoes 😆😆

A rise in people self-diagnosing with mental health problems is fuelling Britain’s worklessness crisis, Liz Kendall has said.

The Work and Pensions Secretary said the change was one of a “combination of factors” behind spiralling rates of economic activity that are piling pressure on the UK’s welfare system.

She also warned that Labour will strip people of their benefits if they refuse to engage with attempts to get them back to work, as part of a radical set of welfare reforms to be announced on Tuesday.

Zonder · 24/11/2024 19:38

Thanks for those links @Notonthestairs and @DuncinToffee Sure start were so amazing and our children have missed out so much without them.

DuncinToffee · 24/11/2024 19:39

This petition thing is hilarious 😂

From the Emma Monk link I posted earlier

This petition calling for another general election in the UK, a mere 5 months after a stonking general election victory for Labour, has been “signed” by people in 141 countries🤔

It has received 100s of signatures in 16 different countries 10s of signatures in a further 34 different countries

5 people in places that are officially uninhabited! 🤷‍♀️ (British Antarctic Territory and S Georgia and S Sandwich Islands)

0.13% of the entire population of Vatican City wants another General Election in……checks notes….. the UK.

As does 0.02% of the population of Monserrat.

Efacsen · 24/11/2024 19:48

That's very funny @DuncinToffee

Zonder · 24/11/2024 19:50

Well it's nice that the population of Montserrat care so much about us!

PandoraSox · 24/11/2024 20:00

Oh, but VPNs etc.

I wonder what Charles will do if they petition him as is now the plan, apparently?

It is quite amusing to see how angry some people are. They are even pretending to care about benefit claimants now when not so long ago they were bemoaning that they are a drain on society.

Saucery · 24/11/2024 20:13

Well, we may find it funny now, but there are a lot of penguins in the Antarctic and if they all learn how to use the internet Labour might have a serious problem Shock Shock Shock

I believe there are already some sealions who can use MN….

Worth noting

That the next most signed petition after asking for a 2nd EU referendum (4.1m)

Was when 1.8m Brits petitioned to stop Trump making a state visit to the UK

And that was prior to the 34 felonies, fascism and sexual assault liabilities

Possibly needs a re-run…

That got lost behind the sofa, didn't it ?

itsgettingweird · 24/11/2024 20:51

I've seen a meme doing the SM rounds stating that Storm Bert has stopped more boats in 24 hours than Starmer in 5 months.

People seem to think the Tory's saying "stop the boats" actually stopped them 🤦‍♀️

That Govt petition website is beyond useless, cannot even recognise public IP addresses or overseas ones, a bots delight.

There needs to be more detail, such as a genuine NI or NHS number or just scrap the whole thing, its just pandering to SM pressures and achieves nothing, put it in the bin alongside Majors "Cones Hotline"

itsgettingweird · 25/11/2024 09:42

My ds asked me last night "is this petition done by bots as part as Putins aim to destabilise the UK?"

Quite astute for a 20yo!

I said quite possibly, but even if set up by someone disgruntled their party didn't win it's been signed by boys all over the world and showed him the post above.

Then he said "it's like Brexit all over again. And we call this democracy!" With a fab 🙄

Notonthestairs · 25/11/2024 09:55

Suspect we are a bit behind the curve but our resident IT bods can probably comment more authoritatively!

'The Cabinet Office minister will use a speech at Nato’s cybersecurity conference in London to announce a new laboratory for AI security research. An initial £8 million of government funding will bring together Britain’s intelligence agencies, world-leading academics and the tech industry to develop new cyberdefences to protect Britain’s national infrastructure. '

'Last month, pro-Russian hackers from a group called NoName057(16) claimed responsibility for knocking out the websites of the Salford, Bury, Trafford and Tameside councils by deluging their websites with internal traffic powered by AI.'

I hadnt realised that council websites had been under attack - was this widely reported?

There are some good data links in this post (skeet?) that your DS might be interested in

Josh Russell (@joshfwd.bsky.social)

The GE petition that’s got 417k signatures is fake. As in, bots. It got 300k signatures OVER NIGHT. And the activity graph is incredibly uniform. This is a manipulation, and I’ll be interested what the parliamentary petitions committee investigatio...

That is very interesting Duncin.

Efacsen · 25/11/2024 10:14

IDK but it doesn't seem very clever for the manipulation to get found out so easily

PandoraSox · 25/11/2024 10:18

There are now several threads running about that petition. It is quite amusing how some people are getting quite excited about it.

@DuncinToffee took me a moment to twig what you meant by skeet!

DuncinToffee · 25/11/2024 10:22

The debate people are getting excited about will probably be a few MP's counting how many times they have signed the petition Wink

That was a game you could get for the Apple ][ in 1979.

BestIsWest · 25/11/2024 10:38

We had Skeet on one of these in the 1970s, we only ever played Pong though.
