So very disappointed I came on to see some snow and not a single picture! Yoi better all have fill this with pictures tomorrow morning!

Cue the schools closing, traffic accidents, road closures, train delays, working from
home, supermarket panic buying because the UK is embarrassingly incompetent and unprepared to deal with snow.

Bah humbug.

My school never closes. A colleague once slid under a lorry in her car trying to navigate the treacherous journey. Several operations and months off school and the head still makes us all drive in, including many buses, that all get stuck and sliding on the big hill up to school.

We rarely get any snow in Essex
I doubt we shall this week.

Yep just wet and cold here innit?!

KenAdams · 18/11/2024 21:03

Nothing in South Leicestershire yet

bourdain · 18/11/2024 21:04

The percentages in forecasts are about how much of the area covered by the weather station will get that weather. Rather than a percentage chance of that weather.

This factoid is always quoted but it essentially means the same thing.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 18/11/2024 21:04

Wow! Peeing it down here on the south coast as usual!

It’s probably at least 10 years since we had any decent snow!

sre123 · 18/11/2024 21:05

No snow here yet. We're in the south of Birmingham (Kings Heath)

LittleMissFuckUp · 18/11/2024 21:07

We're on the edge of the moors in West Yorkshire and it's sticking like bigger on our little street. I've just moved the car to the "main" road just in case.

Kids were beyond excited watching it come down at bed time.

Jesus that’s crazy!! Hope your colleague is doing well now.

Very wet snow in Warrington, but it IS snowing!

I detest the wet snow we get in the UK, in Germany we got lovely, dry snow, the first year we were there it snowed around Christmas and we didn't see the grass again until April. It solidified like another layer of tarmac and eventually wore away, we never had the grey slushy stuff, it was lovely. Because we had to clear the pavements, by law, and also clear space to get off the drive we ended up with pillars of ice in the road that took till June to clear.

That's exactly what I was going to say! 😂

Panic buying wine...... 🍷???

We are probably friends in real life! 😆

Yes! I was not the only there either! Seriously triggered facing snow induced homeschooling again

Awwwwww, I hope there's a few inches of snow down in the morning, for them to play in/build a snowman with! Grin

u3ername · 18/11/2024 21:17

I keep checking this thread for photos...

Rain here and funnily the temp will go up to 10C at about 2am (so def no snow) but the highest tomorrow during the day will be 4C?!

NotQuiteUsual · 18/11/2024 21:18

Nothing in Northumberland yet. Really hoping for loads of snow so I can keep the kids home with me tomorrow.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/11/2024 21:19

It is now snowing in Manchester ❄☃

This makes me so nostalgic as I grew up in Germany as a Forces kid. We had tons of snow every year. Now I live in southern England and barely see a flake year on year - I hate living here with its mushy weather and dream of moving to the North.

TokyoSushi · 18/11/2024 21:22

Just starting to settle here in Warrington!

the80sweregreat · 18/11/2024 21:22

Let's hear it for Manchester! ❄️
Essex is letting us down , boring grey and damp
As ever .

LittleMissFuckUp · 18/11/2024 21:22

@SabreIsMyFave me too! But also, it already takes the best part of half an hour to get to school in normal weather, they're going to be less than impressed when I make then trudge to the car and then get stuck for god knows how long to get to breakfast club 😂

Might let them do a pj snow fight while I make breakfast.

Onacuctustree · 18/11/2024 21:25

Snowing and sticking here in North Staffordshire.
Living on a steep hill becomes a nightmare with snow.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 18/11/2024 21:25

Snowing on the North Wales coast!

Not necessarily.

Some apps might do it by "how much of the area" (though I don't see how that works).

But the Met Office it does it by running the predictions over and over and over again, with minute differences of input (updating from actual readings) and slight differences in tolerances, and the percentage is the number of times the predictions say that particular type of weather will happen. So 90% chance of snow means that in 90% of the model scenarios they have run, it's snowed. So you conclude that snow is the likeliest weather by far, even though 10% of the modelling brings you none.
