Twitter is basically Truth Social now

My 'Following' tab is dead because everyone interesting has left.

My 'For you' tab is full of Elon Musk's prolific blithering and other right wing shit, and AI bots commenting on posts generated by AI bots.

Given Musk's exceptionally prominent role in Trump's new government, is it appropriate for UK politicians to be posting on there? I don't think they'd use Truth Social.

Such a shame, it used to be great.

Interesting that James O'Brien, the Guardian, Stephen Fry, George Takei (and now me) have quit X for Bluesky.

Uniformly awful people (not including you of course)

Count me in!

Twitter has turned into a disgusting swamp of vile posts and posters.

I will explore Blue sky

YouveGotNoBloodyIdea · 13/11/2024 23:56

Well X shows you what it thinks you want to see - there was a guy ranting yesterday about all the porn he kept being shown, with screenshots. I've never seen anything like that on my feed.

I continue to see interesting posts by interesting people. I've just looked at the "for you" and "following" sections and both are fine for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rachel757677 · 13/11/2024 23:59

It sounds like you are fed up because your echo chamber now has differing views that you don't like. It's called free speech. If you don't like it...... Leave. For example, I've I've always found it to be a sewer. So I don't go there. See how it works.

Calmnessandchaos · 14/11/2024 00:02

DH only follows football/F1/ Darts and snooker accounts and the stuff he gets on his feed is.... Interesting. Every 2nd post on his feed is an adult for someone selling drugs (really! And he's 100% anti drugs as he had a good friend die after overdosing) and Temu (we don't use that, ever) Im not sure how they are picked for him.

noblegiraffe · 14/11/2024 00:04

My Twitter was never an echo chamber, I deliberately followed people I disagree with,

However it is now overrun by AI dross and offensive nonsense.

There’s a difference between ‘opinion you disagree with’ and “inflammatory racism’ or ‘batshit conspiracy theory’ or ‘fake stuff’.

Surely that is a reason to stay on X? James O'Brien? The Guardian? These aren't the sort of people you should want to mix with.🤣

I’ve been pushed posts from Tommy Robinson and Andrew Tate. Are these the sorts of people you want to mix with?

Don't use it then. However, try not to make a big statement out of it. Just leave....

I used to love Twitter but it’s awful now. So many porn bots and extreme racists eg. the violent angry disturbing abuse many British Black politicians and tv personalities get is disgusting especially if they’re female.I do like the community note feature though. I’ll be shutting down by account by end of the week.

However, given that I’ve been on Twitter for years and you have never been near it, mine is what one would call an ‘informed opinion’ and yours isn’t.

And this is how we can decide whether someone is worth bothering with or not,

I only every joined twitter because about 6 years ago we had a bad winter and councils were closing schools early due to snow it was the quickest place to get info.

I was pretty disgusted with X that they wouldn't remove photos and videos that were shared by people thinking they were Halloween props.
The police were asking for them to be removed but it wasn't X policy.

I don’t seem to get the porn but I think that’s because I never confirmed I was over 18. Small blessings!

Time to post the clip of Elon calling out the BBC being unable to provide one shred of evidence of “hate speech” from their feed. Despite them saying it was full of hate speech. Not even one example.

where was the outrage when women were silenced, doxxed, ostracised from the platform (pre Elon) for speaking up for women and children and not supporting their mutilation and sterilisation?

off you skip to your new fluffy echo chambers where you can all signal your virtue to each other. Don’t let the future election or referendum results come as a shock to you lmfao

SailorSong · 14/11/2024 00:27

Are you on the ‘who you follow’ timeline or ‘suggested for you’ timeline?

I really like Twitter but I always make sure I’m on the who ‘I follow timeline’ because the suggested for you timeline will include any topics you have engaged with - even if it’s hate engagement.

I did read an interview with Musk where he said that messaging someone a link is the single biggest thing that will have an effect on what is suggested for you and algorithms have no concept of whether you are sharing an item because you hate or love it.

As I have said I like Twitter and use it far more now than I did a few years ago when all they seemed to police were women saying men cannot become women. Never had Tate or pornography in my timeline but I do regularly check my settings.

My ‘for you’ timeline is practically empty these days because they’ve all left and every other post is an ad for some shit cryptocurrency or revolut or something else I have no interest in.

Posts of the last couple of days seem to suggest a lot of people are leaving, I’d be surprised if it hasn’t impacted what you’re seeing if you follow normal people.

Sounds like a huge improvement to what it used to be. Not everyone who has different opinions is an AI bot.

There are lots of bots on Twitter, particularly in the comments. Have you not noticed that you’ll watch a funny video and you’ll scroll down expecting to see people discussing the funny video and instead it’s five million bots posting random other videos?

It is hilarious to see all these Hollywood types totally losing the plot simply because the American public had the audacity to vote in a different way to them. Many said they would leave the country!!!!🤣 They won't do that of course. However, they are stamping their precious little feet and throwing their toys well and truly out of the pram. They are also leaving X for pastures new. Not before throwing a hissy fit and announcing said departure on X itself though. Hilarious to witness for many I am sure.

AnnieSnap · 14/11/2024 00:58

I left several months ago now and hadn’t really been liking it for months before that. I miss the pre Musk Twitter!
