Here's some to get us started:

"There's broken glass on this steak."
It was fancy coarse ground salt.

"I can't eat from a square plate. It's bad feng shui."

Any more?

Well if a hunter wounds a deer rather than a clean shot, a shot gun can be used. Personally I can't stomach venison, shades of Bambi.

Witchinawell · 14/11/2024 05:14

sarsaparillatree · 13/11/2024 19:13

Are you in the UK, because it's illegal to shoot deer with a shotgun except for very specific circumstances (serious damage to property or to kill an injured animal)?

I am now in the UK, but it was a restaurant in Frankfurt.

Why? It's legal tender.

No it's not!

I foolishly had a pudding yesterday after a full roast at lunchtime. Boy did I suffer a couple of hours later. Ate nothing until this morning 🙈

Sending thoughts and prayers, @justasking111.

It's likely to do with flavour fatigue. It's a thing. Google it.
Ever been cooking something for hours and by the time it's done, you don't want any yourself. You've been tasting, and smelling, it for hours and you've had enough of it. Flavour fatigue.

It's probably the reason someone else's cooking often tastes better than if you cooked it yourself.

guest complained about the noise of the seagulls and wanted me to take money off. I asked him what he expected booking a hotel on the seafront.
he didn't get any money off.

Complaining that the restaurant and golf course were shut - 'it's unacceptable !'

This was summer 2020 🤦🏼‍♀️

This replace wine with bee in thing seems surprisingly heated. It depends would be my view. How about this one to add into the mix - my brother on holiday in Hawaii with his wife and two children were sat inside a sea front restaurant near a window. A sea bird (presumably a youngster new to flying) clattered through the window and landed on their table, sweeping their (very expensive) meal to the floor. The restaurant replaced their food, gave them the meal on the house, and offered a voucher. How's that for customer service? :-)

On a less salubrious note my worst hospitality experience - glass collecting in a bar at the end of the night and finding an almost full pint on a table in the corner, a very unusual occurrence. Went to pick it up and found the glass to be warm. Body temperature in fact. Shudder. 😫

Reminds me of what happened to my husband. He was having a steak at a hotel, kids were in the pool, he was eating outside near the pool. All of a sudden his steak flew off.

A massive bird had flown from behind him, swooped down, grabbed the steak and flown off with it before he had time to process what had happened.
He told me he was sat there trying to process what the hell had happened and the staff were laughing their heads off.

They very kindly replaced his steak but he didn't ask them to and was fully expecting to just buy another one.

Hilarious! 😂😂😂
Love that the bird flew from behind him -very cunning!!!

Oh yes. That bird was definitely a repeat offender. :D

Just home from work and this happened today.

"Do you want any other sauces with your meals? Ketchup, mayo, BBQ?"
"Dont you have red sauce"
"Yes, we have ketchup"
"I dont want ketchup, I want red sauce"

Seemed perfectly happy with the ketchup I gave him.

The age of this man? No not 5, about my age so 50's ish.

pinkpjamas1 · 14/11/2024 18:20

Not a complaint, but I worked in a city centre pub that did lunchtime food while I was at university in the early 2000s.

Just me and my boss behind the bar and boss went to take a man's lunch order.

'Soup and Sandwich please!'
'Sure! Which sandwich would you like?'
'Just an ordinary sandwich.'
'Okay but which ones, we do cheese and onion, beef and onion, ham and tomato.....'
'Just a plain one'
'So do you want a sandwich, or just want soup and bread?'
'No no! I want a sandwich!'
'Which sandwich do you want?'

This went on for several minutes and I can't remember the outcome but stifling the giggles wasn't easy!

God, the reopening after COVID shut downs and all the rules we had to try and make people follow with threat of being closed if we didn't, and the utter kickback from the general public. I mean I got it, the rules went right against any kind of hospitality but it wasn't like we were doing it through choice, or had any influence over what they were, they were as new and awkward to us as everyone else.

And eat out to help out...... Double shudder I've been physically assaulted 3 times when working in hospitality, twice during those few weeks. It was horrendous.

I had that yesterday and he was adamant it wasn’t ketchup but red sauce. I let it go no point in arguing the toss.

he was also not a child.

I’m so so sorry that happened to you.

I was told I hope you catch covid and die when I was working retail during covid. I was also spat on that involved the police as I wouldn’t let it drop. My manager wanted it swept under the rug. I was having none of it.

Now it’s food and I’ve had hot food thrown over me because the order was wrong ( it wasn’t). I’ve been perved at and that didn’t end well for the guy that did it as I barred him, the wanker.

gingercat02 · 15/11/2024 13:17

I ordered beef carpaccio once, which I love, only to have the waiter come back to check that I know it's raw, as the chef was annoyed at people expecting it to be cooked.

Glad to hear you barred him, it's like you're fair game for this bullshit because people don't think you'll say anything back.
I don't get perved at or groped any more, middle aged, slightly overweight, but then I get resented because I'm not fit to perv at "Aren't bar maids meant to be fit?" That's fine, you won't get served at all then, because I'm the one in charge and I won't be subjecting the younger staff to men like you.

I am sadly not surprised that you were spat at and have had hot food thrown at you. I hope you weren't hurt and hope at least the spitter got some concequences. And your manager was an arse.

We're not second class citizens because we are in a service job, it's disgusting the way some people behave - and then they have the cheek to moan that service is shit and there's not enough staff - well no, because no one wants to put up with your shit!

Been reminded of this thread again tonight.

Shoplifters in store. We never approach but do keep an eye out for number of items / value etc to be able to report. Sometimes they realise they are being watched (from a large distance) and give up as was the case today... they had a knife with them to remove the security tags. Over £100 of stock lost in two items, over £200 recovered from a bag left in store.

Police likely not interested.

Still luckier than my DF who was attacked with pins by a HIV positive shop lifter and as a result spent months on preventative medication.

That's horrendous-I hope he was okay.

I live near a city which has a notorious bloke with the nickname 'needles' due to behaviours such as that. I think he's currently barred from the city centre but that expires often enough. +

I agree but the customer said people are funny about them, but he was being funny about it.

I'll take anything as long as it says sterling.

Even another coworker spoke about 'getting rid of it' when a Scottish note turned up recently. I said we don't need ' to get rid of it' it's just money.

I wonder if Scottish people say this about English notes?

asdfgasdfg · 20/11/2024 19:10

Scottish notes are not even "legal currency" in Scotland. The banks/shops accept them as tradition.

KnopkaPixie · 20/11/2024 19:39

Oh here's a new strange behaviour one. When I was working as a chambermaid in a 54 bedroom hôtel in France but all the clientèle were Scandinavian - mostly Swedish, we had to replace, on average, four or five broken toilet seats a week.

I've never come across the same level of toilet seat breakage ever again in any other hôtel I've worked in.

I’ve just thought of another one 😂

In the restaurant I worked at, we always laid the tables with clean cutlery, napkins and menus.

A family were seated and a while later the mother shrieked at me “Can we have some fresh knives and forks as these ones were here when we arrived”.

lol. Wtf lady.
