There were 9 British prime ministers at the Cenotaph

cardibach · 10/11/2024 13:08

But no Johnson. I’m simultaneously not missing him and seething he thought he had something more important to do.

DuncinToffee · 10/11/2024 13:10

He was there, looking scruffy

DuncinToffee · 10/11/2024 13:12

forgot to add the picture. Johnson doesn't look too scruffy from this angle

I missed him completely. I’ve obviously adapted to blank him out. I was listening to them names as they came out and didn’t hear his either!

I find that rather charming. Is it really 105p though, or just another way of saying pounds?

It really is £1and 5p.

It’s like the Black Mirror episode where you can just Block people in rl and there’s a fuzzy blank space where they should be Grin

My ddad marched past at the cenotaph this morning. Dsis and her husband went along to support. We saw him on the telly, he was towards the back, so dh and dc were back from our local service- I stayed home in case we missed him.

Unfortunately there appears to have been some disruption at this service which was held at the cenotaph due to some idiot in a nearby house closing to play eastern music at a high volume during the service. This only stopped when they had a knock on the door from the police. Whoever did this is either a fucking idiot, or trying to cause division. Fortunately those at the service merely applauded when it stopped.

cardibach · 10/11/2024 13:57

@Saucery it would be very peaceful 🤣
How fab for your Ddad @Llttledrummergirl I hope the music wankers were just ignorant and are now educated…

Saucery · 10/11/2024 14:06

Someone tried to spoil a nearby city’s Remembrance Parade by leaving a suspicious package on the main route.

cardibach · 10/11/2024 15:04

He’s incapable of looking tidy. But Corbyn didn’t bow low enough or wore the wrong coat or something.

Cool. I like that. 👍

Llttledrummergirl · 10/11/2024 16:22

@cardibach it seems from the language overheard when they were told by the police to turn it off, that it was a deliberate attempt to disrupt the service.

Very sad.

cardibach · 10/11/2024 16:26

Makes me mad and sad @Llttledrummergirl

DuncinToffee · 10/11/2024 18:30

Tice and Oakeshott were a bit upset that Reform didn't get to lay a wreath

No they weren't banned, they just don't have enough MP's, minimum of 6 is required.

cardibach · 10/11/2024 18:59

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

Saucery · 10/11/2024 19:19

If only they’d been able to take part in a local service, like my MP. What a shame they didn’t think of that, because if it doesn’t make the national news it didn’t happen Hmm

Thank goodness the limit is 6.

Keir Starmer will attend Armistice Day in France today - the first UK PM to do so since the Second World War

BustingBaoBun · 11/11/2024 11:09

I've watched some footage. I liked the warmth shown between Starmer and Macron. We need as much of this as possible with european countries.

Starmer is following up with talks with Macron about Ukraine, Trump, tariffs and all of that. Would I like to be a fly on the wall on the Trump bit..

Lord Darroch, former US ambassador, says he expects Donald Trump to 'go big' on tariffs

He says he won't make threats. He will do it and then ask countries what they are willing to do to lift them. He says he doesn't see any special deal for the UK

The challenge will come if the EU retaliates - does the UK side with Brussels and impose retaliatory tariffs of its own or try to strike a deal with the US?

'I think he's going to go big this time. I think he will put the tariffs on early and say to countries if you want them lifted what are you going to do to even up, to rebalance, the trade relationship

'I would expect him to go big on this. I think it will be quite a challenge for the UK. I don't see any special deal coming for the UK.'

Back to PIP, after getting a letter a couple of weeks ago saying "we're working on it, here's another year in the meantime" we've just received a letter extending DS1's award to the end of 2030. It only took them 10 months. I can get on with renewing his bus pass, now!

DuncinToffee · 11/11/2024 16:06

Good news!
