The worst thing you’ve ever put in the washing machine…?

Make me feel better please!

DH away with work, and I have a day off whilst DD is in nursery so I’ve had a super productive day. Vacuumed/mopped the floors, cleaned the kitchen, done a few loads of laundry… just taken the last one out and I’ve managed to wash a (clean) disposable nappy. So now my nice clean floor is covered in the fake snow absorbent powder stuff, and the clothes are all having a second wash.

No great harm done (I hope!), but my goodness it’s irritating.

DP's wallet Blush

shellyleppard · 05/11/2024 15:30

Oh no!!! The fluff will be everywhere.... I've washed a £20 note before 😳

OchAyeTheN00 · 05/11/2024 15:30

Bright lipstick. Ruined clothes.

LittleRedRidingBoots · 05/11/2024 15:31

A biro in one of my daughter's school shirts, in a whites wash Confused Amazingly no leaks though!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 05/11/2024 15:31

Airpods!
Though after sitting sellotaped to one of those disposable dehumidifier thingies for a week they were fine.

ticktock19 · 05/11/2024 15:32

My brand new AirPods- seeing them (in their case that I'd left in my hoodies pocket ) through the door spinning around wasn't the greatest moment

evtheria · 05/11/2024 15:32

My phone....

Newsenmum · 05/11/2024 15:33

try a dirty nappy. Very dirty 😳

Dinodrivingacar · 05/11/2024 15:33

Blanket that was, unbeknownst to me, absolutely covered in cat hair. It covered all the other clothes for ages after. Nightmare.

QueenOfWeeds · 05/11/2024 15:35

Oh these are making me feel much better - thanks everyone!

@shellyleppard can confirm the fluff is everywhere. I’ve been like an advert for our cordless vacuum today 🙈.

My phone. Couldn't find it anyway so was delighted when I opened the washer door to find it nestled amongst the clean clothes. Very briefly delighted.

Planits · 05/11/2024 15:36

Kids crayons. Ruined all the clothes

coxesorangepippin · 05/11/2024 15:36

KitKat

USB key

Changeyourtune · 05/11/2024 15:36

My brand new engagement ring! 😬🫠

I sat and watched it get stuck at the edge of the drum and then prayed it was okay until the door would unlock and I could get it out. Thankfully it was fine and I never mentioned it to my now husband!

shellyleppard · 05/11/2024 15:37

@QueenOfWeeds you could be the next poster girl for their advertising campaign!! 😍

I put DH’s passport in the washing machine once. I’d picked up some of his clothes to wash and didn’t know it was in his jeans pocket.

Oh that sounds like a perfectly fair punishment for leaving his passport in his pocket, even if it was accidental.

My car key. Twice. One of the battery operated ones - luckily I managed to dry it out both times and no issues.

Chorizosausage · 05/11/2024 15:40

My toddler had a poo accident in her pyjamas. I thought I'd flushed it all away before putting them in the machine. I hadn't. I then tumble dried the load of washing. Believe me, you don't ever want to do that! The smell was horrific and I then found the offending tumble dried turd. I had to re-wash everything about 5 times with laundry cleanser before I was sure the smell was gone. It was awful.

StiggyZardust · 05/11/2024 15:40

DHs iPod. He left it in a pocket. It still worked once it had dried out.

MyUmberSeal · 05/11/2024 15:43

Remote control for tv in bedroom. Changed the bed sheets and didn’t realise the control was lurking amongst the sheets I’d taken off. It made such a bloody racket while the washing cycle was on. Really thought it would break the drum of the machine. It actually still worked after too. Won’t do it again though.

Rocknrollstar · 05/11/2024 15:43

I washed a Uniqlo winter coat in the machine. They aren’t washable and the filling all formed little hard balls. Totally wrecked.

QueenOfWeeds · 05/11/2024 15:43

@Chorizosausage 😱😱😱😱😱

A special football ticket that my ex dp (who was vile) left in a shirt pocket. I realised when ironing it that the pocket felt rather stiff…
he was most pissed off
I had to call the FA (not sure what game it was it was decades ago) and surprisingly they issued a spare.

Luddite26 · 05/11/2024 15:44

I have washed nappies before and I think the worst one was when I washed a dog blanket at 60 and it should have been 30. It disintegrated and blocked all the pipes. Killed the washer.
My worst experience in the early 90s exhusband ran a club and brought the takings home. There was over £3000 this night as it was the height of the season.
I had a twin tub washer and the kids were early risers (4.30 am in summer) so I was happily washing away and pegging clothes out at 5.30am when I noticed some £20s on the kitchen floor.
Then I looked in the washer and they were swirling round in the hot water. Then I looked in the garden and there were £20s all over the place.
I'd washed the trousers with all the takings still in the pockets no idea if they were all accounted for it was like a scene from a bank robber movie.
