The worst thing you’ve ever put in the washing machine…?

Make me feel better please!

DH away with work, and I have a day off whilst DD is in nursery so I’ve had a super productive day. Vacuumed/mopped the floors, cleaned the kitchen, done a few loads of laundry… just taken the last one out and I’ve managed to wash a (clean) disposable nappy. So now my nice clean floor is covered in the fake snow absorbent powder stuff, and the clothes are all having a second wash.

No great harm done (I hope!), but my goodness it’s irritating.

DH washed the cover from a pram and couldn't get a metal spoke out, so used 400 spin 'because it's slower' RIP washing machine.

I bought a blue velvet jacket from Vinted. Very hippyish. Everything I buy from Vinted goes straight in the wash. I put it on it's own on a 30 minute cool wash.
I have never in my life seen so much blue dye. Everything it touched was blue.
It went in the bin.

A cat.

I loaded a single item into the drum to put on a delicate cycle, turned around and didn't notice my idiot cat climb into the drum. Closed the door and turned it on. It was full of water before my son noticed her staring out, luckily it hadn't started to spin. We had to rip the door off to get her out.

She's got form for this, she's always in my tumble dryer and has been found in my neighbours washing machines. She stresses me out,

Oh and a nappy, I was very sleep deprived in my defence

Oh my god!! My heart was in my mouth reading this. Thank God she was okay. I’d be stressed out of my mind constantly.

@Hyperbowl she's disabled from birth so doesn't go out often, the neighbours either side live her and have made a little hole in the fence so she's not trapped in my garden all the times.

We all know to keep our washing machine doors closed now, she's a menace for climbing into them. Now she digs through my washing in the washing basket and makes herself a little nest 😂

rainspotsbrightlight · 05/11/2024 16:41

Not me, a relative. She laundered a passport 😱😱😱 A night in the airing cupboard fixed it sufficiently for one use

Justploddingonandon · 05/11/2024 16:42

A used disposable nappy (thankfully only wet!). Also a lip balm which I feared would leave grease over everything when I found it after, but thankfully seemed to have just dissolved. Glad I found it before it went in the tumble dryer though!
DH didn't see anything wrong with washing DD's white vest and pyjamas with her new pink bedsheets following an accident. Fortunately DD likes pink and in fact got upset when I refused to dye the rest of her vests.

My husband accidentally washed a pack of cards. Jesus the mess and the machine was clogged up for ages.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 05/11/2024 16:44

I also washed my son’s calculator a couple of days before his advanced higher maths 😭

CharlotteFlax · 05/11/2024 16:45

Mine was a breast pad which left weird silicon shizz all over my precious firstborns tiny baby clothes. It felt like my world had ended and I would poison my brand new babe with these terrible toxic fibres. I was beside myself!

I've had another two children now and I am much less neurotic!

Tooty78 · 05/11/2024 16:47

My phone, (seems to be a recurring theme)

coldcallerbaiter · 05/11/2024 16:49

silk bedspread on cold. Shrunk and shrivelled. Made to match curtains and decor by interior designer. Too big and heavy to wash by hand.

FluffytheGoldfish · 05/11/2024 16:50

Purse the payday before Christmas. Everything came out of it and I don’t know how but my bank card disappeared inside! (And a supermarket loyalty card). At least all the cash I had withdrawn to pay the quarterly electricity bill came out ok.

Back in the day, when you could still smoke in pubs, me and DH came home from the footie with our clothes reeking from being in the pub after the game. Relevant additional info, we used to have season ticket books with vouchers for each game rather than entry cards that we have now (you can see where this is going can't you....?)

When we got home we both got out of our stinky clothes and I shoved them straight in the wash whilst DH jumped in the shower. Only when he came down and asked me where I'd put his season ticket book did I realise that it had been in the pocket of his jeans which were merrily swishing around in the washing machine. It took him ages to get a replacement - I don't think he's ever really forgiven me 😂

Lytlethings · 05/11/2024 17:01

DH phone. I was doing the washing and accidentally knocked his sleep shorts off the bed on to the washing I had piled on the floor.i did not know the phone was in the pocket. He was very forgiving even though he had to spend £50 on a replacement.

MyEarringsAreGreen · 05/11/2024 17:02

Husband's iPhone. It was in his pocket and i just gathered up clothes and put in machine! Also, I'm always washing my son's gym card, he keeps leaving it in his pocket!

DS journal from his trip to Europe with the scouts. He'd painstakingly stuck loads of momentos in plus messages from scouts he'd met along the way.

Journal obv turned to mush in the washing machine. I still feel terrible about it!

BestIsWest · 05/11/2024 17:14

A chenille throw. Resulted in a string blanket and a machine full of fluff that took 30 cycles to clear.
