I've not taken any notice of the Tory leadership contest. And today is the estates day with Kemi being the favourite.

What's she about then?

She wants to get rid of all those ‘superfluous’ support staff we have knocking around in schools.

I’m sure all our teaching assistants will be more than happy to lose their jobs as they aren’t really needed anyway, and the parents of pupils with SEND will be fine with their children losing any additional support at school.

MrsJoanDanvers · 02/11/2024 21:39

She has pretty robust views on immigration. Says not all cultures are equal. So yes, I think it is pretty relevant.

Her parents though? It's relevant to LOL at them and make disparaging remarks. They are not in politics and really not in the public eye at all.

I understand that she qualified the ‘not all cultures are equal’ by considering whether the Taliban’s treatment of women was a cultural norm that we would want to import - and on that example, surely it’s a reasonable point?

As an AuDHD person and mother of two ASD/AuDHD teens I’ve met quite a few purported experts who seem to know bugger all about autism, so I’ll give her a pass on that one so long as she appoints (shadow)ministers in education, health and social care that do understand it. I also felt she was misreported/deliberately misunderstood on the other issue.

Have you read her manifesto? She literally described autism as a “mental health condition” and said children shouldn’t be given reasonable adjustments for it and should just learn to overcome it. She wrote this and published it herself. I read it straight from her mouth.

I feel she wrote this because she thought it would be popular. I find that highly concerning and very worrying.

I understand that she isn’t an expert, but she has a responsibility as a person in a leadership position to make sure that anything she publishes is factually correct and doesn’t harm groups of people who are already disadvantaged.

That's not what she said. She said that not all cultures were of equal value, then clarified the culture as Muslim.

Born in Wimbledon but grew up in Nigeria where her Dad was a G.P. - so solidly middle class. Her father sent her here as a student and she stayed with a family friend in Morden. She worked at McDonalds to support herself whilst studying.. She's married to banker Hamish Badenoch and they've got 3 kids. She became an M.P. winning the easy Conservative seat at Saffron Walden. Don't know much about her politics but I think she's very right wing and a bit of a feminist so might be good for the party - not sure?

Figgygal · 02/11/2024 21:55

She's nasty, divisive and a proven liar

David Tennant doesn't like her much

Still can't believe James cleverly got knocked out but the tory party has proven time and again that they can't be trusted to appoint their own leadership.

2024onwardsandup · 02/11/2024 21:59

@username7891 I’m just trying to find the clarification comments but can’t?

Is David Tennant a nice bloke though because I’ve heard that he isn’t?

She accidentally acquired citizenship due to her parents which meant she could move here-then says immigration is too high, makes remarks about other cultures and whether they belong here or not depending on their views about things she deems acceptable or not. If this were a white person making these remarks, they would certainly be questioned.

Please stop making stuff up- this is exactly what she said

MrsJoanDanvers · 02/11/2024 22:17

It reminds me of the Norman Tebbitt comment about cricket-who you support tells you if they’re British or not. You can support whatever cricket team you like-it doesn’t make you more or less British.

She gave more than one interview. I was referencing her comments on Sky News Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips.

AshLeaf · 02/11/2024 22:36

Badenoch’s obviously made these comments several times as I haven’t seen either of the references above. I know someone who knows her slightly and said she had given that clarification, so, sorry, no referece. However, this seems in line with the interview posted by 1dayatatime

AshLeaf · 02/11/2024 22:45

Quote from that interview focusing on why Badenoch says not all cultures are equal

“I don’t think that a culture that thinks that gay people should be stoned is as valid as ours”

Surely this is not the point to focus on if you want to portray Badenoch as being unreasonable and divisive?

If it's true that she is a swinger she may be bisexual, so if so it's in her interest to be careful about cultures that may harm her.

There is absolutely fuck all evidence of this.

Please stop spreading your false and vile prejudice.

Oooo we overlapped at Sussex, I never realised that. I disliked many of my peers too, maybe Kemi and I have more in common than I thought 😆

SnowFrogJelly · 03/11/2024 00:50

Very right wing 😬

David Tennant verbally abused her without provocation and said he wished she didn’t exist. He’s a cockwomble and a bully. If DT hates her (which he clearly does) then that’s a pro for Kemi as far as I’m concerned.

Cleverly was heading for top two, maybe the win. Popular with MPs as most likely to win an election because able to reach a wider base than the nutty Reform supporters.

Once the top two were chosen by the MPs, it goes to the party membership who lean to the nutty Reform supporters (hence Truss).

Some of the MPs tried to get clever, “lent” their votes to Jenrick to try to keep Badenoch out of the top two and give Cleverly a clear path. Misfired spectacularly.

Cleverly has now said he won’t serve as a minister but will return to the back benches. Keeping his nose clean for next time.
