Tell me about Kemi Badenoch

I've not taken any notice of the Tory leadership contest. And today is the estates day with Kemi being the favourite.

What's she about then?

She is now the Conservative Party Leader. That's about all I know!

She's broken a glass ceiling, another political party glass ceiling.

Female and black.

Only interview I've head in full was on Monday afternoon on radio 2.
She is a Mrs Thatcher supporter, she wasn't too keen on her more 'leftie ' friends at Sussex Uni , she came over to the Uk with only 100 pounds from her dad and ended up working shifts in McDonalds to fund her engineering degree. She feels that engineering helps people be a lot more grounded and pragmatic. She was born in Nigeria.
She back tracked a bit about her comments over mat pay , but she admitted she had mat pay twice. She has three children and is now the leader of the opposition

She’s sensible on gender stuff, but she’s dreadful on race, sadly …very right wing, very much ‘I did well, why can’t YOU?’

She's divisive.

I'm a black woman, so I'm happy for her moment. But she's perceived as someone who'll push the lot of us under the bus to suit her party, as she has done in the past. As a result, many people do not trust her. I certainly wouldn't vote for her.

She’ll be a breath of fresh air and I have high hopes for her leadership, if they can unite behind her and stop the infighting. She sounds like she has common sense. Go Kemi!

She’s also the second person of colour (in a row), the fourth woman to be leader of the Conservative party, while Labour leaders has been white male oxbridge law types since WWII. Interesting that.

If that's her general stance, I wonder what @Xenia thinks of her, and where she is likely to take the Tories?
(assuming they can stop infighting for long enough to go anywhere, which is not something I'd count on)

KB was born in London (Wimbledon).

She made some unhelpful comments on how maternity pay has "gone too far", which I thought was an odd stance to take as a woman.

But not an odd stance as Tory anti any benefit or welfare for people?

A chap from the podcast Lotus eaters claimed that she is a swinger, this concerns me.

That sounds like a smear campaign.

I heard her parents are wealthy and that she was an anchor baby born here, and previously made similar types of comments like Lammy/Sunak does about his parents country of birth.

Apart from a return to biological reality, she sounds like more of the same.

She met with de transitioners against the advice of her civil servants. She has been consistently excellent on gender ideology - very smart and on top of her brief.

like many immigrants and children of immigrants she thinks people can and should be self reliant and achieve success through working hard.

Those rumours about Boris sleeping with many women turned out to be true as did his lockdown parties. I find that type of behaviour concerning.

She came across a bit full of herself in the Radio 2 interview I thought

This is my impression of her too. She is too right wing for me, but she's smart and knows what a woman is. I'm keeping an open mind about her for now.

She thinks the british public are lazy and should be working a 6 day week.
