Julia Lopez (shadow culture sec) says leaving the European Convention on Human Rights is still on the table for Kemi Badenoch's Conservatives

Ah. She's one of the allegedly new and refreshing names.

I take it they are not interested in winning back those Lib Dem seats. Fools.

If they were, they would have gone for Tugendhat.

There is something deeply satisfying seeing a party of spivs and grifters being hoodwinked by spivs and grifters. Like nature achieving a balance.

And whilst counterfactuals are generally much overblown, I think it's a fair suggestion that the Cameron referendum was a pivotal moment in the decline and fall of the Roman Tory empire. Their fate was sealed the moment he caved in to the headbangers. Much like the finale of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, they did not chose wisely. Now look at them. All of which was foreseen.

I think a lot of the hate for Labour from the media is because they managed to dodge that bullet - their hands are clean in Brexit terms because they didn't try to use it to their advantage.

LK seems quite upset about the tax on private schools and jets

Even her trailer for todays show was very obviously bias towards KB.

How are they going to win back those and the Reform voters? It’s an impossibility.

That is the dilemma facing them.

That is the dilemma facing them.

I’m bit convinced they can or actually want to, they appear to be eating themselves & with the sainted Kemi at the helm who is an inveterate liar combined with an awfully inflated sense of her capabilities which is laced with aggression & a very sneering attitude with what appears to be very little compassion or empathy & could as my lovely Dad used to say start a fight in an empty phone box, depresses me really as does Isobel Oakenshott (sp?) & her ilk.
As for the new & refreshing names, surely all the have left is mostly the dregs of over promoted tossers.

dontcallmelen · 03/11/2024 13:55

Sorry should say not

I'm so pleased that I had to go out early this morning as I normally watch LK ,(despite the fact that it must be raising my bp as I watch ) and from what I am hearing it seems to have been another hopeless episode.
How can that salary be justified!

I wish they were. It’s turned into the biggest pile on you can imagine. I’m sitting on my hands.

IDK the 2 which I reported were pretty promptly deleted

BIWI · 03/11/2024 15:43

I'm glad I wasn't around for that thread. It's bad enough just reading it, I feel sure that if I'd participated my blood pressure would have been through the roof!

Still, useful to as a place to corral all those posters. Will keep an eye out now, for sure.

They’ve considered the dilemma, checked the maths and decided they are going for the 5 reform seats not the 70ish Lib Dem ones.

I thought the Tories were a pragmatic party with good numerical skills.

It’s this pragmatism and the strong numerical skills that has left the country and its finances in the strong position it is in today.

Also, we need to make sure we continue to keep to Talk guidelines (because we do mostly!) on here as I think some would love to get the threads pulled.

"They’ve considered the dilemma, checked the maths and decided they are going for the 5 reform seats not the 70ish Lib Dem ones."

Yes, this was what I was thinking.

Genuinely don't understand the thinking.

As an aside, I stumbled upon a thread where the poster who dissed our cats makes plain that she really hates all cats.

You are right. I don’t like cats.

Cats kill birds and shit in people’s gardens.

PickAChew · 03/11/2024 16:43

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/11/2024 15:56

They’ve considered the dilemma, checked the maths and decided they are going for the 5 reform seats not the 70ish Lib Dem ones.

The lib dems only gained a fraction of 1% of the vote to gain their 60 odd extra seats, though. What happened with Reform was that they came second in a lot of seats, taking the vote from the Tories so that Labour or the Libdems won that seat, instead (just look at the reclaiming of the red wall in the NE that largely went Tory in the previous GE) and ensuring that a lot of the seats that the Tories held had tiny majorities.

So the maths actually does add up but they would have an awful lot of work to do to win back the"two cheeks of the same arse" voters who are convinced that Mr Farrago is a true man of the people rather than a Tory toff. A snippy black woman isn't going to be favoured by the white van men they need to get back, IMO.

BIossomtoes · 03/11/2024 16:46

Ouch. I’d delete that last sentence if I were you @PickAChew.

PickAChew · 03/11/2024 18:18

Of course I'm not inferring that all white van men are bigots, @blossomtoes - just referring to the subset who are. 😬

I should probably include a couple of old ladies we overheard at a quilt show for the benefit of any whatabouterists around.

Only guessing so might be wrong but think @BIossomtoes was referring to the first
4 or 5 words of the last sentence

SerendipityJane · 03/11/2024 18:26

I think the reason the Tories are looking towards Reform is they believe it is/ will be a lot less work than having to appeal to the LibDem/centrist voter. Hard work being something someone else does, if you are a committed Tory.

It's quite ironic that the reason the Tories are where they are is because they tried to take on the Reform/Farage contingent before* and had they arses whopped then. This appears to be them coming back to be taunted a second time. No wonder Farage seems happy.

*And failed, in case anyone wants to know what happened 😀
