“For the time being”

I question senior Tory right wing MP John Hayes on whether Robert Jenrick should permanently abandon his leadership ambitions

John Hayes offering support 'for the time being'. Hayes of course desperate for the Conservatives to take the UK out of the ECHR (sod the GFA).
Badenoch is going to have to learn how to coral this section of the party because they've already dispatched a number of previous leaders.

Congratulations to Kemi for winning the worst person competition. Well deserved.

This is the most appropriate comment today I think.

As predicted upthread ....

Notonthestairs · 02/11/2024 14:57

Farage seems pleased with the Conservative result. He can campaign to leave the ECHR without Jenrick moving in to his space. Will make by-elections more interesting.

If Farage is happy, I'd be a worried Tory ....

I suspect he believes that Badenoch will destroy the Tories quicker than Jenrick.

For now, it's much more interesting to discuss the incident of the dog in the night-time

Willowkins · 02/11/2024 16:35

I've asked this before whether ECHR meant the court or the convention.
I just watched a really unpleasant video on Facebook in which Jenrick makes it clear he wants to get rid of the convention - you know, the one we signed in 1951 to make sure there could never be a repeat of nazi atrocities. I'm really cross.
Meanwhile, KB has said it's not that simple.

PS there is no such thing as an ordinary cat.

PandoraSox · 02/11/2024 17:15

As an aside, I stumbled upon a thread where the poster who dissed our cats makes plain that she really hates all cats.

That’s strange, another of our occasional little visitors really hates dogs. Perhaps there is a link between being unable to debate properly on social media and not having any capacity to love domestic pets? Or even just let the people who do love them get on with it.

isthereaway · 02/11/2024 17:27

Just watched a clip of Tory leadership announcement earlier. Who was the woman in the print frock next to Jenrick? Was it Mrs Jenrick? If so, she's as (not) good at hiding emotions as I am, poor woman. Bloody awful it's Bad-Enoch as we call her in this house.

Yes it was!

That Kemi Badenoch popular mandate in full:

  • Lowest support among Conservative members in any leadership election in its history
  • Lowest support among Tory MPs since Iain Duncan Smith
  • Just 12% of all UK voters have a favourable impression of her

EXCL: Scores of Prince William's rental properties fail to meet minimum legal energy efficiency standards for landlords. Some of his tenants at risk of fuel poverty, living in hard to heat homes riddled with damp and black mould.

@PandoraSox: ah! She did look gutted!
@Eve: Oakeshott can go to hell frankly. My two young people's MH was badly affected by lockdown & their education went off a cliff. (Autistic, rural, almost no internet). They've worked so hard to make progress since, so they'll be employable in time. One wants to work in Cyber Security 'to keep people safe'. The other wants to be a Paramedic fir similar reasons. One of them is currently 'lazing in bed' as he's in heart failure after (either covid or the vaccine they don't know which). How dare she?

PandoraSox · 02/11/2024 18:46

Oakeshott can spew her bile all she wants. The Reform types might lap it up, but she fools no-one else. She can't even think up original ways to denigrate disabled people. The free car jibe is as old as the hills.

Very much like ‘Brexit’ I don’t think they know. They just keep saying it to appeal to people.

Cheguevarahamster · 02/11/2024 21:05

And Oakshott calls disabled people parasites. Vile woman. The Royal family are the biggest lot of benefit scroungers going - the sooner they are relegated to history the better this country will be.

Notonthestairs · 02/11/2024 21:29

Oakeshott needs attention. Reform need attention. They say anything, do anything (like deliberately ignore sub judice) to get it. Badenoch is similar IMO - policy light, costing irrelevant (unless it's welfare reform) heavy on the wokerati blaming. It perfectly well if all you want is headlines & division.

newnamethanks · 02/11/2024 21:36

Mrs Jenrick's going to be fun at the upcoming Christmas parties. She certainly entertained me this afternoon, in fact I'm still laughing.

PandoraSox · 02/11/2024 21:37

Oh it did. I'm apparently a bully, a game player and condone Angela Rayner's use of the word scum. 🙄

It was vile towards the end. It looks as if we’re back to drama with a capital D, especially since two thirds of Tory MPs didn’t want her.
