Has the OBR thingy come out ?

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:43

OBR document unveiled by Reeves says the previous govt "did not provide the OBR" with all the information available to them and their spring Budget forecast would have been "materially different" if they had.

The only way to drive economic growth is invest, invest, invest. Go, Rachel. The adults are back in the room.

Rishi Sunak looks like he's being told off by the headmistress.

He certainly does

Sounds like Hunt might be right to be worried.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 12:47

She’s giving stern headmistress vibes to be fair. Disappointed rather than angry

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:47

She is good, I didn’t quite expect that.

Laying blame on austerity, Brexit deal and mini budget is good if they do something to fix what they can from that lot.

Morning all. Thanks again for kind words. I knew you lot would understand cat love.

What a gorgeous wee mite.
So sorry for your loss

I am pleased she actually mentioned Brexit.

The Treasury will be lapping this up - they don't mind borrowing as long as they know exactly how much they owe.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:54

£40b tax rises

I think the comparison with 1945 is good.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 12:57

Opposition benches have quieted down now

£40b tax rises

I’ve just realised why I’m less worried about this budget than usual. It’s because being in the bottom decile of income or so I’m not worried that more of the tax increase burden is going to be on me rather than middle and high earners. Reeves could prove me wrong here but every change the Tories made benefitted the middle and high earners most.

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 12:59

Good that she is allowing carers to earn more before losing CA, but shame she hasn't increased the actual allowance.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 13:01

I don't know if this was deliberate but the camera was focused on KB's face when RR spoke about bullying in the workplace.

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2024 13:01

At least they're looking at the cliff edge on CA too, hopefully they'll add a taper instead.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 13:02

If they don’t introduce a taper increasing earnings is pointless.

Yes, that needs sorting.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 13:03

Fuel duty frozen - well played

cardibach · 30/10/2024 13:03

No increase to fuel duty

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 13:03

Freezing fuel duty, that will shit* up some who were predicting doom and gloom!

*Meant to say shut, but shit works.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 13:03

It’s a relief as I do a fair few miles for a retired person

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2024 13:03

Raised Pension Credit threshold too. That'll take the wind out of the frothers' sails
