I’m going to try going into work to meet a friend for lunch so will be on a bus. Will have to find a live feed somewhere. Think most media outlets will have one.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 12:15

BBC do, if you can bear it

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2024 12:16

I sort of want to comment that a rise in NMW is an efficient way to reduce child poverty and in-work poverty as it condenses the bottom end of the wage spectrum. Relative poverty is below 60% of the median household income so squashing upwards the bit below the median reduces the number of households in relative poverty.
Pretty sure I'd get piled on for saying that on those threads but it's mathematically true.

I’m not sure I can.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 12:18

Don’t blame you, Rafa!
Not sure who would be better at the moment though.
It’s not the worst culprits named on the feed though.

newnamethanks · 30/10/2024 12:19

Ellen Wilkinson replaced Lawson? Excellent. Well done RR.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 12:19

I think probably Sky are better than BBC.

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2024 12:23

Despite lasting longer than a German opera, the Tory leadership contest managed to hilariously miss the budget by three days. (reminds me of the quip in "Roseanne" about aliens travelling across the universe in search of intelligent life and managing to miss by one door). Which clearly demonstrates they are truly incompetent - they weren't just putting it on for the country.

Seem Cleverly has played a blinder by removing himself from a race which is clearly going to deliver a turd in one form or another. Although I still maintain the Tory party will need to lose all and every MP associated with 2010-2024 before they can even begin to contemplate winning. That may be after my time - imagine the person that could lead them to victory may not even have sat their GCSEs yet.

Incidentally I was "lucky" enough to have a coffee in a hospital restaurant this morning - was there a while as people came and went, and nobody was talking about the budget. Much less VAT on private schools.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 12:24

I thought they’d deliberately planned it to be just after the budget.

Giving the plebs more money is surely welcomed by our Robber Baron corporations ?

Smoothopera · 30/10/2024 12:27

AIBU to think if you voted for Brexit and for tory austerity you really have no right to moan about the budget. Most of the issues Labour have to deal with are entirely due to those 2 elephants in the room.

I don’t know a lot about Ellen Wilkinson from what I read she was a very remarkable woman.

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2024 12:28

I look forward to the OBR report that Hunt seems upset about.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 12:29

Wonder what that does for NHS agenda for change wages. Band 2 is going to be below minimum wage. Bottom of band 3 not much above it. Presumably they can’t just chop a band off the bottom again like they did with band 1.

I tend to go for the BBC purely for the lack of ads.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:29

Starmer joked to Sunak that he could be back in the job soon enough

Me too. It must be very revealing for him to get his knickers in such a twist about it.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 12:31

I'll be watching BBC Parliament for pure unadulterated RR speech

I've got the live BBC News footage open as "picture in picture" so I can listen to it while toggling to MN and read the summary.

BustingBaoBun · 30/10/2024 12:38

I really rate Darren Jones sat to the left of Rachel Reeves. He's very popular as an MP. And is sometimes on the local Politics Sunday programme... he's excellent.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 12:40

I like Darren Jones.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 12:41

She’s on fire here. Calm, righteous anger.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:41

Hunt looks frazzled, Sunak is busy writing

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 12:42

Rishi Sunak looks like he's being told off by the headmistress.
