I think I need to stay away from the rest of MN today.

Why is the Tory leadership election taking so long? 4 months seems unnecessary.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 08:30

It will be Sunak's last appearance before heading to the back benches.

one of my colleagues has quipped that choosing the Tory leadership candidate is like choosing which STD you want.

@Piggywaspushed so sorry about Clyde, he looks a lovely boy.

My analogy was sickness or diarrhoea. It’s going to be peak madness here today, I’m asking myself if I can be arsed.

Zonder · 30/10/2024 09:39

I laughed at choosing which festival toilet to use on the last day of Glastonbury.

Fucking hell. Jenrick right now on GMB is trying to be and sound just like Farage.

He's gonna be dangerous if he gets in unless he promptly disappears like Farage did!

He is the equivalent of human bin juice & becoming nastier & more dangerous by the day odious man.
itsgettingweird really glad you had such a good experience with people on London transport, must admit I do get a bit fed up of the bashing of Londoners on MN I’ve lived here all my life, live on a street that is very friendly & community minded same with the wider area & when I use transport with my stick 99% of times offered a seat helped on or off the bus, most people I encounter day to day are pleasant friendly & helpful just like elsewhere.

Bin juice!

I agree. I lived in London for 36 years and I loved it. Still miss it ❤️. I forgot to say, fingers crossed the PIP result is the right one.

Superb. I'm sure some photoshop whizz could give her a dark bob.

BIWI · 30/10/2024 10:45

I'm really not looking forward to the budget. I'm hoping beyond hope that RR will stand up and deliver a 'rabbit out of the hat'-type approach, which will magically quell criticism and simultaneously delight the city/the MSM (as well as all the naysayers on MN). But I suspect that's not going to happen. Sad

A moment in history

I must admit I am no fan of Reeves, but she has every right to be very proud. Nice outfit, too. I am sure that photo will rattle a few cages, though.

Zonder · 30/10/2024 11:31

The NMW froth really irritates me. Like don't we want people to actually earn a living wage and not be stuck in poverty/ on benefits all their life? It's tragic if a business can't continue due to having to pay their staff a living wage, but surely the issue isn't how much they pay their cheapest staff?

BIossomtoes · 30/10/2024 11:52

That photo made me well up a little bit. It’s truly shocking that it’s taken this long to have a woman chancellor.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 11:53

The downside of a huge majority

Labour MPs were queueing up from 830am this morning to get a good seat on the green benches to see Rachel Reeves’ first budget.

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 12:00

It’s a nice problem for them to have though.

Kind of glad budget day is here at last. At least the frothing will be vaguely based on facts rather than things people have made up.

cardibach · 30/10/2024 12:03

I have BBC Parliament in for PMQs and the budget. I’ve walked a large American Bull Dog (called Joan Rivers…) this morning and will need a shower at some point.

Absolutely.

I just hope that moment in history is as celebrated as when Sunak took office as that was also an important moment in history.

Regardless of politics (and I actually didn't mind Sunak and think I'm a different time of the Tory party he may have done well) those moments matter because they represent our country on the world stage.

I've been running errands this morning so I'm back in time for this budget.

I even have chocolate 🍫

Notonthestairs · 30/10/2024 12:06

I have to take my dog to the vets so I will be reliant on MN to outline announcements.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 12:12

Just glancing at PMQs whilst making some lunch

Sunak seems so much happier now

Hope it’s routine and not ruinously expensive…
