Liam Payne Funeral

Read online that Liam Payne’s funeral could be as big as Princess Diana’s - not sure how true this is.

Don’t get me wrong I think it’ll be a large public gathering for sure…. Unless the family decide to have a more private service unannounced with just family and friends etc..

Whaaat? I had never even heard of him before he died.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 19/10/2024 23:17

Don't be ridiculous.

I second what a pp said. This is now mourn porn territory.

RitaConnors · 19/10/2024 23:18

Aren't you?

How absolutely ludicrous.

hanali · 19/10/2024 23:18

Really? A full military horse drawn carriage procession through the City of London?

No, the family are obviously pissed off with the predictable media gossip mill over this already. It'll be a private ceremony I think.

theDudesmummy · 19/10/2024 23:19

Don't be ridiculous. This was a very minor pop singer (I had never heard of him although I was vaguely aware of 1D). It's sad that a young man died. That's it.

I’m glad it’s not just me. I had no idea who he was. I heard on the news he had died and thought what a shame as he was young. But that’s it.
I doubt all the shops will shut for a half day in respect and to allow staff to watch.

Houseplanter · 19/10/2024 23:20

It is tragic that a young man has died in such awful circumstances. Genuinely terrible.

But the only people who are really 'devastated' and 'heartbroken' are his family and friends.

Fans of One Direction claiming to be have (IMO) no idea of how it feels to be devastated.

The media and the hysteria is awful. They should listen to Cheryl and wind their necks in.

betterangels · 19/10/2024 23:21

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/10/2024 22:52

Has anyone taken on board what Cheryl said about all this. He has a 7 year old little boy who really doesn’t need people discussing all this.

Grief vultures. That poor boy.

dannyufcfan · 19/10/2024 23:23

OP can't be serious or is very young....

Are you really asking if a private individual funeral will be comparable to the PoW funeral? Are you usually gullible or hard of thinking?

Exactly this. "Heartbroken" is such an overused term these days and most people who are using it are not at all. Let his family and loved ones grieve as they were the ones who actually knew him.

theDudesmummy · 19/10/2024 23:29

I find it really offensive that people who enjoyed someone's music and read some stories about then in the media describes themselves as "devastated" or "heartbroken" because they died. A young man you dont know, dying as a result, probably, of substance misuse, and/or an accident and/or psychological issues. Really sad news story. Nothing to do with your life.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/10/2024 23:34

I don't know who this esteemed source of information would be? How would anyone know the exact amount of people that might decide to turn up outside any famous person funeral?
Why does it matter?
And in my opinion there's absolutely no way it would be anywhere near the 'size' of Diana's. Can't believe I'm even wasting brain space thinking about it.
A young lad died. It's terribly sad.

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 19/10/2024 23:34

The OP got me thinking about the funeral of Princess Diana. It is the biggest in living memory (I'd go as far to say it's the biggest funeral ever, as I cannot think of another before her that comes remotely close). It was mania.

The most famous woman on the planet, in an era where media was infinitely more concentrated than it is now (pre internet), she didn't share the spotlight she dominated it.

The rewritten "Candle in the Wind" sold 33 million physical copies globally (in terms of physical sales it is the biggest selling record ever, and all sold within a month), and it charted at #1 all over the world.

To this day I have never known a week like the one following her death to the day of the funeral. It was surreal. No one person has ever taken over everything like that. Newspapers (from the front page to about the middle pages all about her), television shows dominated by her. Wall to wall coverage. And the flowers, my God you could have filled a field with those stacked outside Kensington Palace.

The internet era folks got a wee taste of a large event with the Queen's death, but nothing remotely close to the scale of Diana. We won't ever see anything like that again as its impossible for anything to be that concentrated on one individual with the media being so much broader with audiences spread out.

Gooseysgirl · 19/10/2024 23:35

God I'd be very surprised if it's not a small private family funeral. This Diana crap is just more shit stirring by media.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/10/2024 23:39

I thought the rewriting of candle in the wind was disrespectful as well and crass

Noseybookworm · 19/10/2024 23:39

I hope his poor family will be left alone and are able to have a private funeral. The feeding frenzy from the gutter press is horrendous.

GCAcademic · 19/10/2024 23:42

God, can you imagine if Diana had died in the age of social media? The ghoulish hysteria was bad enough as it was.

sunsettosunrise · 19/10/2024 23:45

The gutter press is still dredging up stuff that deserves to be private, like Cheryl said, give the man and his family some dignity.

Hopefully the funeral is a private affair in Wolverhampton, near his family and friends, and away from all the press and gorping fans. Maybe a public memorial service / charity gig later on when the family has had time to grieve in private.

pepperonipizzaaaa · 19/10/2024 23:46

what is the use in pp’s saying he’s a minor pop star and you don’t know who he is etc etc. 1d was massive, just say they weren’t part of your generation and go. no need to act like he was nobody special. a lot of us loved 1d

RitaConnors · 19/10/2024 23:49

a lot of us loved 1d

It still isn't the same scale. A lot of people love Steve Davis but he isn't going to get a state funeral. That's not how it works.

Absolutely millions of people will have absolutely no idea who One Direction are, never mind the individual members.

No one is doubting One Direction had fans.

But fans are not family and they're not close friends.

Apolloneuro · 19/10/2024 23:51

Of course it won’t. Don’t be silly.

no im not agreeing it’s the same scale - but the comments saying they didn’t even know who he was. what’s the point in commenting that?
