Less people using and posting on Facebook or just my friend list? I ?

gone so quiet now. After pandemics it seems less and less people are using it or just not anymore. I've asked a couple of friends and they say it's just boring now.

OP posts:

Just seems to be pet obituaries these days

sharpclawedkitten · 12/10/2024 18:18

It is boring, part of the problem is the crazy algorithms which show you loads of junk you have zero interest in. I use the groups but the actual feed is rubbish.

AntiHop · 12/10/2024 18:22

I still see a lot from my friends on Facebook and post myself.

Livedandlearned · 12/10/2024 18:23

It probably depends on your friends.

That pretty much sums it up. I use Facebook for local information raher than anything else.

Pureshores499 · 12/10/2024 18:26

It's so boring 😴 I deactivated a while ago and don't miss it at all. I think fb has had it's day.

flyinghen · 12/10/2024 18:27

I use it purely for groups and that's it

Malvala · 12/10/2024 18:30

I don’t even use it for groups anymore. It’s full of “picked for you” random posts and ads.

I think it’s dying a death.

XenoBitch · 12/10/2024 18:37

I just looked up some of the people on my FB, and they have been posting... but my feed is so full of ads, sponsored content, and the public posts of people I don't even follow, that they just don't show up.

This. By the time I've scrolled through ads/ suggested posts/ sponsored posts I've got bored and gone elsewhere. Facebook is dying out.

CitizenZ · 12/10/2024 18:39

It's just like scrolling through adverts now. I barely use it.

Justpeachy88 · 12/10/2024 18:39

Yeah, I believe Instagram has taken over from Facebook now as the popular site. I don’t like Instagram though but does seem that Facebook is dying out slowly.

Sortalike · 12/10/2024 18:40

I only use it to wish people happy birthday 🎂

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 12/10/2024 18:43

Out of the 300+ 'friends', I seem to see the same 10 people. Unfortunately these people are still saying the same stuff they did years ago, so really boring for me. I think it's Facebook punishing me for deactivating all the time... Younger people have told me it's for 'old people' aka, over 30... and everyone just uses Snapchat now...

2chocolateoranges · 12/10/2024 18:46

I have very few friends on it but still use it. I've only got people I'm in contact regularly in real life or family on mine.

Stops all the randomness.

Shoobidowhop · 12/10/2024 18:46

Life updates are on insta, or not on SM at all, and scrolling is on tiktok now for me. Snapchat I've never got!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2024 18:47

I’ve come off now. It’s just adverts these days.

Doggymummar · 12/10/2024 18:50

It seems to be used by the 75plus age group in my family. The rest are in Instagram

Pigeonqueen · 12/10/2024 18:52

I used it for health groups I’m in. If you have a complex health disorder (ie lupus / Crohn’s etc) it’s one of the best ways to connect with other people. No other social media platform works well for it. But I’ve completely stopped posting photos etc on my own profile. It just feels really “hey look at me” now and I feel uncomfortable about it; even though I’ve only got about 20 people on it and highest privacy settings.

BibbityBobbityToo · 12/10/2024 18:54

I've unfollowed that many people my feed is nothing but Oodies and Oddball pants.

I don't care what you are having for tea, what photos you took of the northern lights and I absolutely don't need to know that Olivia-Mae finally shat in her potty....

(I did spot 2 pet obituaries this week).

Comedycook · 12/10/2024 18:56

I think a lot of people are on it but just don't post. I check it multiple times a day but don't post any statuses or photos

Foopa · 12/10/2024 18:57

Used to be mainly about the friends and now its all local groups, and other interests so its less about faces and more about photos of dogshit and recommendations for plumbers. It was a load of rubbish anyway, who wants to see peoples fake happiness. Oh look there's Sarah picking pumpkins in a field with a fancy handbag. Load of shite.

TentEntWenTyfOur · 12/10/2024 18:57

I'm fb friends with about 70 people and follow several groups.

My feed is almost entirely adverts for things that could not be more irrelevant to me if they tried; and constant (and I mean constant) repeats of the same few posts that I have seen a dozen times already.

If I look up another friend, they have been posting but none of it has come up on my feed. Except that after I've looked at them my feed becomes completely full of their posts and nobody else's.

As for the 'people you may know'. Who the fuck are all these hundreds of total strangers?

Lemonadeand · 12/10/2024 18:58

Yes if you count the number of posts from actual friends relative to the number of ads and dross, you realise the balance has got worse. Instagram is the same.

Porridgeislife · 12/10/2024 19:00

Facebook’s main use now is Groups and Marketplace. The other features have pretty low traffic which is why your feed looks a bit irrelevant.
