Less people using and posting on Facebook or just my friend list? I ?

gone so quiet now. After pandemics it seems less and less people are using it or just not anymore. I've asked a couple of friends and they say it's just boring now.

OP posts:

Just click on the bottom right menu > feeds > friends, then it only shows stuff your mates have posted.

Still full of fucking adverts 🤦🏼‍♀️

It's just like scrolling through adverts now. I barely use it.

YouTube is going the same way. Forcing longer and longer ads into content-so you'll hopefully give up and pay.

I have tried doing this, but it always reverts to its original position (“All”) - so I have to switch the feed to Friends every time I look at it.

Skibideetoilet · 12/10/2024 19:54

I’d love a MySpace.com resurrection personally 🤣

You got me all excited then!
It doesn't work. Still ads and loads of other guff.

It seems to be used by the 75plus age group in my family. The rest are in Instagram

🤣 - I'm on Nextdoor-useful when it started, but I swear it's now the new Facebook for geriatrics 🤔

Bloody awful platform. Can't see anything but adverts and short style videos of shit and can barely see any of my friends stuff so I don't bother anymore.

I hate videos. I like written posts. Not that's just me. I also dislike Facebook users now too. I'm glad I got hacked a year or so ago, as I didn't miss it apart from the Groups I'm in. I'm also FOAMING that this platform has ZERO customer service, and all my hacked data is undoubtedly still available to them. Never again will I post personal info on a platform that can't be arsed to help or even supply a service to reclaim your account when you've been violated.

Download the Brave web browser from the app store. No ads, no AI. Can be used on the phone/tablet but is great on big screen desktop.

Yes, the lack of proper customer service is concerning considering the amount of users and data they have on them. And the whole getting banned for silly reasons is daft too.
Someone on my FB was a HUGE fan of a particular rock star, and she changed part of her name by deed poll to match his. Someone on a fan group reported her to FB for having a "fake account" (FB want you to use your real name), and despite her showing FB all the documents to prove it was indeed her name, her account was closed down. She started a new account with a new email, and that was closed down too. They had blocked her IP address. She had to go to a relative's house and make a new email and name. It was ridiculous.
All that, and my dog has a FB account and has done for 13 years.

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 12/10/2024 20:11

I haven't noticed that much change, still probably about the same number of friends posting, most people only post fairly bland stuff, photos of holidays and days out etc. I mainly use it for groups and following businesses and organisations, it is useful for all those. I just scroll past the ads and suggested content, it doesn't bother me.

Onetypeofraver · 12/10/2024 20:14

I still quite like it, mines very banal though, I like seeing what my friends are doing and don't have any randoms on it

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 12/10/2024 20:14

I've stopped posting, I can go days without checking it as well. Facebook just feels like adverts and posts from groups I don't follow. I have to go and search for the groups I actually follow.

I use Instagram to watch stupid cat videos, rugby videos and funny gym videos. I also follow my gym, and my gym instructor (and old gym instructor) as sometimes they post some good stuff.

I thought about posting something yesterday and then just thought "nah can't be bothered". I used to post photos of my cats usually doing something stupid or funny but since one cat died earlier in the summer my heart isn't in it.

NotTru · 12/10/2024 20:16

I only use it for local info and marketplace now, and that is rare.

Tomatina · 12/10/2024 20:45

Occasionally I look in at my groups, but I haven't posted for ages. I see a few people still posting holiday photos, but most of my real friends have abandoned it.

Bestyearever2024 · 12/10/2024 20:56

The Facebook Groups I belong to are really useful and I use Messenger a lot

I only use it to wish people happy birthday 🎂

Haha I use it to unfriend people I don't give a shit about: when their birthday comes up it reminds me to unfriend them 😂

IfIToldYouThisAboutMe · 12/10/2024 21:01

I browse through. Rarely post now, I admit I used to post loads of what we did, dc achievements and all sorts. Because family we rarely see always love seeing it . Then I realised why , why don't we see them they don't live far away. And other than on fb or messenger asking for pics they don't bother. ( we used to always visit them) yet they would download our photos then be the ' doting aunt/ uncles ' on dcs birthdays with long posts saying how they love them using MY photos.

I stopped posting over a year ago. And we've not seen them since boxing day.

Oh it definitely is. Ours is full of moans about people putting their recycling bins out on the wrong day, teenagers riding scooters on the pavement, dogwalkers not scooping the poop (fair enough to moan about that) and the 20mph speed limit.

NunyaBeeswax · 12/10/2024 21:13

I used to quite like some of the groups on FB.
Pointing out nonsense from the town and the bad parking and such.

I don't know what happened with the groups I was in, but it seemed like thee group admins got a little power mad just after Lockdowns lifted and anyone saying anything they didn't like got banned. Especially if you said anything negative about Labour / Starmer etc.

Wouldn't you just use WhatsApp for that?

PinkMrsMartenBoots · 12/10/2024 21:27

I hate Facebook now. It auto follows content creators / influencers. Problem is it’s always people I’m definitely not interested in watching. My feed is FULL of adverts and if I want to see a friends update, I have to go to their profile even though I follow them.

I have jiggled with the settings and nothing will make my feed prioritise my real friends over “influencers” who think they’re hilarious and that I do not follow.

PinkMrsMartenBoots · 12/10/2024 21:29

However mum and her friends love it! They talk for hours about who “liked” what and who didn’t “like” a post. It’s very funny

KimDealsBass · 12/10/2024 21:31

sharpclawedkitten · 12/10/2024 18:18

It is boring, part of the problem is the crazy algorithms which show you loads of junk you have zero interest in. I use the groups but the actual feed is rubbish.

Agreed. I am weaning myself off both Facebook and Twitter. The former is ludicrously micromanaged by algorithms, whereas the latter has become a toxic cesspit.

I have tried alternatives like Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, all of which have much nicer and more relaxed vibes, but it's really hard to get much engagement on those at the moment.

Bestyearever2024 · 13/10/2024 05:38

Bjorkdidit · 12/10/2024 21:17

I use WhatsApp for messaging some friends and for some friends' groups

But some friends (especially my younger friends) rarely use WhatsApp - I know, weird, but that's how it is 😳

Also, the Facebook groups I'm a part of aren't on WhatsApp either. I think perhaps because they're massive ? Or at least some of the groups are massive ....for example I belong to a local weather group. The guy who runs it is uncannily accurate. But it wouldn't work on WhatsApp

Also, I've just thought of this....I use Marketplace a lot

I actually DO use Facebook a lot but I never post on my timeline and I rarely read my newsfeed 🙂

AutumnalCosiness · 13/10/2024 08:08

Never use it. Hardly look at it anyone.
