Also wondering how he knows that. So much knowledge. I have FOMO now 😂

He's a bit of a geek with random stuff like this. He's definitely fed up of me showing him a load of random planes I'm following on flight radar

I was just going to bed. Now I have to look at Flightradar.😁

Me too 😂 need to brush my teeth yet and here I’m following a drone 😂

OWRLOSERS · 02/10/2024 23:11

It's only night exercises from 30th September for a week.

No bloody idea 🤣🤣

Flight radar has made aircraft identification easy….

Tap on the aircraft icon on the flight radar map and usually the type is shown in the data panel that pops up on the left.

If you’re not a spotter so don’t recognize e.g. “Global Hawk” then simply stick the type into Google and all will be revealed.

It's the MQ9 ones we need to be worried about, they're the weaponised ones. Apparently.

@Hello412 😱How does he know that?

The info is there in flightradar.

One clue to whether something is a drone is the colour of the flight path line, it varies with altitude. The red line means it's higher than normal planes

I've been told by my DH it's actually a remotely controlled surveillance drone... fascinating

This is the kind of gem my DH comes out with. Reads too many spy books for my liking 🤪

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 02/10/2024 23:16

We have flights go over us (Scottish Highlands) that don’t appear on flight radar. A particularly loud helicopter last night and nothing to be seen when I checked.

LivelyGoldOrca · 02/10/2024 23:16

If you look on flight radar now, where is the plane nearest your hose going to? Mine is going to Austria :-)

LuluBlakey1 · 02/10/2024 23:17

So, is this all just the usual stuff or what? And if it's what- what is it?

EasterIssland · 02/10/2024 23:18

Doesn’t look like the USA plane was going to tel aviv. Where is it going! Is there any USA base anywhere. ?

This is why I love living in Lincolnshire 😍

justasking111 · 02/10/2024 23:19

Saw a huge plane flying up the river this morning, so low down as it flew up the Conwy valley. We get a lot of activity at times too.

swimsong · 02/10/2024 23:19

9:10 Saw two lights silently go over Scarborough that seemed to be going through low sparse clouds as if at either end of a large craft. Nothing on FlightRadar this close to coast. Thinking now must have been an illusion and it was two slient planes much higher (still not right for radar as I was 200m from the sea and the lights were ahead of me) think my brain manufactured a faint cigar-shape between the lights like it was a weirdly silent small passenger jet.

That happens whenever I look on there as well. I initially lost interest for that reason.

Completely normal for the RAF and allies to be exercising. Cobra Warrior happens twice a year and is a huge event for aviation enthusiasts

I'm in Lincolnshire and 2 jets have just roared over. Not showing on flight radar though

LuluBlakey1 · 02/10/2024 23:22

The US airfirce unidentified plane is heading into Jordan just now.

justasking111 · 02/10/2024 23:23

What's this one at 51000 feet?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2024 23:24

These two are presumably practicing refuelling?

Read the thread.Grin it's a drone

Look at the path of this Canadian military beast, great fun

Oh I think that was maybe the lights I saw (see other post in thread).
Was low and yet spookily slient though.

This query/comment crops up a lot…there can be a couple of reasons..

Flightradar is eavesdropping on data sent from aircraft intended for Air Traffic Control, and mostly gets the info from receiving equipment set up by amateurs dotted around the world.

If an aircraft is a low altitude a long way from any such receiving equipment then Flightradar won’t “see” it, won’t display it…that’s very commonly the case for low flying aircraft and helicopters out over the countryside a long way from population centers.

Also not all aircraft or their operators are happy with their data going public, so some aircraft (often military, some police, some VIP stuff) are often hidden, either for the whole of a flight or any part of it deemed sensitive.
