Teesside is one of Draken Europes main bases, gets used to mainly support their work with the RAF, their other is at Bournemouth (so probably, not sure, gets used for work with the RN).

There’s a lot of history to this but the operation was for many years run by a UK company (Cobham Aviation Services)…way way back the services each had their own specialist units/squadrons that acted as “targets” and/or provided electronic warfare training but it got farmed out to the private sector a long time ago.

Do you have a link? Can’t find it
acrually just found it. Thought it was in uk and is near Israel

Edited

Flight radar in Google. Scroll over to Israel and it's just in the sea between there and Cyprus. It might be harmless, it is seemingly on its own and lots of commercial flights around it.

Love to see that in real life.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/10/2024 22:59

This - not sure if it's just a flight path or whether they are flying round and round a particular area.

why has the US plane going towards Israel got it's tracker on? surely that's not safe??

It makes sense - we’re on the coast and often have helicopters overhead, and I like a wee nosy at what’s about, but very often there isn’t a location. Making their presence known.

@PlasticineKing Game playing. Bloody scary at the moment.

Adatewithmyself · 02/10/2024 23:04

The US to Israel plane looks as though it’s taken off from a ship in the Ionian Sea. I also wondered what it was doing, it’s really close to Beirut now

I've been told by my DH it's actually a remotely controlled surveillance drone... fascinating

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 02/10/2024 23:04

Whenever I’m in north Norfolk there are noisy USAAF fighters doing manoeuvres over the coast. Deafening at times.

iamsoshocked · 02/10/2024 23:05

@Hello412 😱How does he know that?

It’s true the C130 design goes way back into the 50s but that airframe will have come off the production line much more recently than that and the type is still regarded by many as one of the best transport/utility/search and rescue aircraft that has ever flown….lots still flying good work all around the world.

Octavia64 · 02/10/2024 23:07

At least two USAF bases in Norfolk area - Mildenhall and Lakenheath,

Both recently posted on Facebook saying they were doing joint training ops at night and to be aware of increased flights.

They're on Facebook.

Cobham, a major UK company, was sold to the US a few years ago. Almost impossible to believe that a company of such calibre was handed over to another country.

I was just going to bed. Now I have to look at Flightradar.😁
