Anyone up for sorting their lives out in October?

Pretty sure every time I say I'm going to do this the universe hears me and sends a huge curveball at me. Hoping this time is different

I want to get on top of my nutrition and exercise before winter really sets in and I feel even more miserable. Just getting over a cold so I'm going for a long walk at lunch to get my 10k steps in, and have slow cooked beef with veg and mash for tea tonight.

Yes please.

“Pretty sure every time I say I'm going to do this the universe hears me and sends a huge curveball at me. Hoping this time is different” You wrote this for me, didn’t you?! Saved me typing it out anyway 😁.

Said in September I'd sort my life out, my dad ended up in hospital and it threw my entire month off! Fingers crossed this month is different 😂

Me please. No excuse not to now that the kids are back into the school routine. I really need to get back into cooking, eating healthy food and being more focussed on the right exercise.

I plan to use the Christmas festivities as a target. If I can loose half a stone and feel good in myself before then it would be much more enjoyable and better than starting the new year even heavier.

I've started today with yoghurt and soup and a decent session at the gym.

Nice going!!

I meal prepped last night so have lots of food to go in the freezer. Had yoghurt and some fruit "jam" (just boiled down some fruit until it set) and then a wrap for lunch, went and did a 35 minute walk to get the steps in as well

I’ll join :)

I’d like to focus on my energy this month. I feel out of focus and tired all the same. I’d like to focus on keeping a good sleep pattern, reducing stress, and eating superfoods.

I’d also like to get in the habit of having 3 meals. I have a bad habit of just waiting until I’m starving.

MeAgainAndAgain · 30/09/2024 15:03

I think my aim for October is less ‘to sort my life out’ and more ‘climb out of this well and get myself to where I normally am’. Then after that I can progress to making things better. Small steps, eh?

I desperately need help

As an example: 6.30 pm last night Dh made a roast for 2 adults & 2 teens. This was lovely and he loves to cook. But:

He used every pan/made so much mess, it was 3 dishwasher loads. I tidy the kitchen/load the dishwasher as he has cooked. I loaded 2 loads of the dishwasher last night and kitchen tidied, I was too tired to unload and reload the third lot (or wash it up myself) and I left it for this morning. It included left over food. During the night the cat got a container of meat, ripped it open and ate it on the landing where I found it this morning.

Around 7.45pm I then had to drive DC friend home. They wanted to go via mcds for icecream. A 3 min drive turned into a 20 min drive. I drove as DH had to make food for DC (ND, he has an eating disorder and only eats certain foods).

At 9pm I bathed DC (he is ND, aged 15) and washed and dried his hair. (DC wont let DH do this and DH refuses to do it anyway. DC refuses to do it himself, so I am left to do it).

Bath done and it's now 10pm. I should have got the school uniforms out of the drier to hang up. I was too tired. DC (ND) then repeatedly asking me to go to a specific shop today for their fav food. I work FT. The shop is a 40 minutes round-trip drive, at best. I have a members card for the shop, so I have to go and DH cant.

This morning I loaded the third dishwasher load, scrapped plates, cleared up after the cat. Got DC up. Bins/rubbish out. Booked DC haircut. Sent some home-admin emails. Worked (still working!). Went to the shop lunchtime for DC (and made him come). The dishwasher needs unloading and has another full load waiting to go on. No beds have been made (I do them). Tonight is homework with DC, an on-line class for me. I might fall into bed around midnight.

Sorry this is so long. Well done for getting to the end !

Tagging on for inspiration! I find it hard to think of healthy weekday meals that are quick and easy to make! Also spending way to much time on my phone scrolling and want to start healthier habits but don’t know how to cut back!

I've prepped slow cooked meatballs and slow cooked beef this week. Easy to have with some mashed sweet potatoes or something

Me please! Have had a very busy time at work and feel like lots of the work I had done trying to eat better, sort the house out and keep on top of kids stuff has all gone down the drain!

But today, I have packed and brought in to work a healthy breakfast and lunch. Got a good shop in yesterday, so should have nutritious stuff for the week, going to try and hit the gym tonight - and get a load of washing done. Also sorting out in advance for kids hobbies at the weekend....

Cloud44 · 30/09/2024 15:57

I never know how people fit in the gym with work?! Not only timewise but how do you have the energy after a days work?!

It's a struggle lol. Usually I just force myself, and bargain that afterwards I can shower and get in my pyjamas

Yes please, I have noticed a trend of falling into a bit of a slump in the winter months and want to get on top of organizing my life, nutrition and exercise before I start to feel too overwhelmed and sad.

Gert12 · 30/09/2024 16:08

Kissyfur90 that sounds so tough. Do you have even half an hour to yourself to decompress? Maybe the 40 minute drive could be rest time where you appreciate being on your own and quiet. Would your DC like to try some yoga or meditation together before or after their bath? You sound like an amazing mum.
Your DH definitely needs some advice on the mess he creates though, great that he cooks but not if it takes you 12 hours to tidy up the mess!

pistachio89 · 30/09/2024 20:07

This is a great thread!

I need to sort out my head in October. I have had two babies back to back and my youngest is now 1. he's now fully weaned and I have stopped bf, so some freedoms are in sight. I feel like I really need to get away, with my husband for some 1:1 time but separately by myself or with a friend. I need to figure who I am now tbh. It's been such a whirlwind, so many major life events all condensed into a few years. my body is also a total mess. I want to get back to a size 12 and just start to feel more confident again. I don't want any more kids, got two amazing ones, one of each, they make me so happy but mama needs some time now. The plan is my husband is going part time (he is selling part of his business) and I'm going to retrain and start up a business (or two) and begin the juggle. Also about to start an extension! I am excited for the next phase - particularly with the kids and seeing them grow from babies to toddlers to kids - but it's all so overwhelming and I feel like a mess right now.

Midlifeshenanigans · 30/09/2024 20:30

Yes please. I need to get on top of diet, sleep and exercise. I’m permanently exhausted, unfit and in pain.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/09/2024 20:36

Yes please, I'm in!

September has been a total cesspit of a month. So busy. Lurching from one weekend to the next, self soothing with alcohol and junk, injury from running, terrible sleep. I weighed in this morning and I've gained 10lbs since my summer holiday in July. TEN POUNDS

So October is:

  • get more sleep
  • eat properly, no bread and no sugar
  • stoptober / no alcohol
  • get back in my marathon training plan
  • stretch and do yoga - try to do a 10 minute flow every day
  • stop the incidental spending especially on Amazon and vinted

My Dh is working away for the next month and Dd is at university so I can get back on track with going to the gym , swimming and eating healthier.
Aerobics class booked for tomorrow morning then will go swimming after work on Wednesday.Thursday and Friday will go to the gym after work and use the treadmill and rowing machine.
Will do a food shop tomorrow as it’s my day off.
Going to sort the house out too over the next few weeks each room at a time.
Good luck everyone

RainbowWife · 30/09/2024 20:45

@kissyfur90 you have a massive DH problem. Get him to clean up after himself and be more useful and your issues will be much easier.

RainbowWife · 30/09/2024 20:46

I'm very much up for this as starting a new job in November and want to be in good habits. I'm giving up fizzy drinks tomorrow (sob), have sorted my eating out but want to be 100% with it, going for daily walks and spending less time on MN!

Pebbles16 · 30/09/2024 21:01

I call it a Q4 reset - all the things I would like to get done/started before the end of the year. September is usually my restart month but I tend to find that's when I do the planning and then October I start putting it into action.

worriedgal · 30/09/2024 21:11

I'm joining you as dh and I have a holiday booked in February and I want to feel good about myself when we go.
I'm aiming to loose over a stone and up my exercise and have time for myself more as dd3 has just started university.
I will do yoga every morning and a walk after work which I really enjoy but always feel like I don't have time

december2020 · 30/09/2024 21:38

Yes - please
It's been a crappy year - I'm starting with Sober October.
I need a proper lifestyle overhaul and figured this was a good way to start. It's not the only change for October but it's the first.

Lovelysummerdays · 30/09/2024 21:41

Me. The kids are away on holiday with dh for ten days. I’m going to do lots of yoga. Every bit of laundry, clean the gutters and be super organised!
