Anyone up for sorting their lives out in October?

Pretty sure every time I say I'm going to do this the universe hears me and sends a huge curveball at me. Hoping this time is different

I want to get on top of my nutrition and exercise before winter really sets in and I feel even more miserable. Just getting over a cold so I'm going for a long walk at lunch to get my 10k steps in, and have slow cooked beef with veg and mash for tea tonight.

Successes today:
Currently 4 of my 5 a day, but am about to eat some stewed plums so will be 5.
Exercise: medium walk and some gardening
Actually managed a long reading session which felt good for the soul.
Batch cooked a beef ragu from a magazine recipe which is then a base for 3 different meals. Tasted lovely too.

We had our first lazy day Saturday after the last few weekends being so full on!
I didn't realise how tired I was!

Still managing Sober October which feels good! But keep bloody opening the fridge to see if I can find something delicious ha!

I've done 2 dog walks today and slowly prepping birthday parties and Christmas. We've got a busy November and December up ahead.

I think I'm going to try declutter and organise a drawer or something to make me feel like I've got a bit more autumn ready.
Hoping also to do some sort of exercise but I'm not sure what yet!

Sourisblanche · 06/10/2024 07:51

Well done all those doing sober October. I’ve cut back in the week now but had a surprise visit from dd yesterday so we had a glass or two of fizz.

Exercise still good, using my rowing machine and longer dog walks mostly. The weather has been helpful here so it feels good to get out.

Today I WILL get on that elusive yoga mat!! First some coffee.

WhitegreeNcandle · 06/10/2024 08:46

Well yesterday was a disaster for me. I did really well all day but was shattered by the evening. Instead of sensibly going to bed I stayed up past everyone else and watched Industry with half a bottle of wine, a lot of cheese and most of the homemade flapjack I made earlier in the day.

certainly regretting that choice now! Not going to have time today for exercise as have got a dreaded IKEA trip planned! Damage limitation it is!

itwasnevermine · 06/10/2024 09:12

Not been to the gym yet this month because this cold I've had is just hanging around and I don't want to aggravate my body, but then I am aware that I need to take the plunge and go back at some point. Going to reset today to put myself in a better position for the next week

I got home from holiday yesterday and had a big shop delivered. Managed to meal plan while I was on holiday and update my grocery order (life admin tick!)

Also found the abandoned planner book and have reinstated weekly planning (further life admin tick!)

Managed a short walk yesterday (exercise tick)

Skincare fail but at least something is going well.

Today is a batch cooking / batch prepping day

I'm also trying to deal with my phone addiction so I have bought a kit to make felt angel decorations for my Christmas tree in the hope that this will keep my hands busy in the evenings.

Me too please . I have recently retired and realise my body / health has gone to shit . I am as working from home and sat in a chair 5 days a week and felt to exhausted to do anything but flop on the sofa afterwards . I have no time excuses now and want to increase my energy levels , get rid of excess weight and increasing random joint / muscle pains and aches .
I'm going to commit to a daily walk , start swimming twice a week . Also meal plan cooking healthy food from scratch rather than the usual reliance on ready meals and sandwiches. I'm also giving up fizzy drinks .

I feel the need to make these changes . I've been caught in the trap of thinking tiredness/ lack of motivation/ muscle and joint pain is just part of aging so I'm reminding myself I'm 59 not 89.

december2020 · 06/10/2024 12:54

I've been solo parenting this morning as DH was on a night shift and me and DC did a dog walk/run in a field, then swimming lessons.
We then (with DH) ran a quick errand and I've just made a giant plate of French Toast for DS and me (I was starving as it was the first meal of the day - bar coffee).
Off for another dog walk in 5.
I'm feeling really energetic today - so need to think of something productive to do after the dog walk and keep the momentum up. Then a proper chill on the evening.

Hope you don’t mind me all joining in. I am the same as @hattie43 except not retired. Years of sitting at a desk and last couple of years I’ve really fallen off the exercise routine.
i did a Pilates on line session this morning and I’ve decided to look at the you tube exercise classes mentioned above.
But I feel tired and low in energy all the time and probably need some supplements but don’t know where to start.

pistachio89 · 06/10/2024 19:28

I have been to so many kids birthday parties recently including my own kids, and the amount of cake is too much! I cannot control myself around cake.

So not a great day for eating but I did stick to one big meal, but followed it with copious cake. Did a lot of walking, mainly uphill.

On day 3 of period from hell right now. Periods so painful and heavy since having my second baby 😩

DiggoryVenn · 06/10/2024 20:47

@WhitegreeNcandle I had an IKEA trip today as well - 2,500 steps (and some storage purchased)!

Successes today:
6 of my 5 a day!
Exercise: Pilates session (Lottie Murphy) which felt particularly good as my back is hurting today.
Another afternoon of self-care - long reading session and a jigsaw puzzle.

Not focussing on the non-successes 😉!

discoballdave · 07/10/2024 06:05

It's predicted to rain all day here so I'm hoping I'll be able to get out for a walk today. I've averaged 5000 steps the past few days (chronically ill with a baby so this is good for me) so I'd like to keep that up. Also plan on doing some yoga later.

It's my first day of the open university today. I have a degree from a brick university but while DS is young and I work from home I thought I'd take on a second degree (funded by student finance as it's in an area deemed necessary). Hoping after these four years I'll do a PGCE and become a secondary teacher in the subject. So far I'm not overly sure of what I'm supposed to be doing but I have my first tutorial at 11!

WhitegreeNcandle · 07/10/2024 06:25

Right damage wasn’t too bad yesterday and survived IKEA. Had a lovely meal out in the way home. Often those last minute meals are stressful and not especially enjoyable but this time we found a pub that did a lovely roast. Great service and the kids were chatty and happy!

so back on it properly today. Priority today is fitting in some exercise I think.

Thiszebraiscrossing · 07/10/2024 06:26

Bit late to the party. Last week walked 60 miles and played tennis 3 times. 4 days no alcohol.

FuckingCheek · 07/10/2024 06:30

I think I just want to hide in a corner for about a month. It's been very stressful here with dealing with illness and parental end of life. But life goes on (or doesn't) and hopefully a better November

Sorry to hear that you have a parent on end of life care. That's hard in every way - physically, emotionally. Do take care of yourself.

It's kind of you to say that, thank you. Parent doesn't understand that I'm quite ill myself and can't hop around like a bunny taking care of it all right at this minute

Sourisblanche · 07/10/2024 09:02

I lost my mum this summer after a long illness, it’s very tough dealing with it all, so you have my sympathy fuckingcheek

I’m off out for a walk now before the sunshine disappears!

It's quite tough. Enjoy the sunshine though :) 🌞

You have to make the most of it

DiggoryVenn · 07/10/2024 19:15

Successes today:
7 of my 5 a day.
Exercise: Dodged the rain at lunchtime and went for a walk

A small happy thing was going to a pop up book shop in our local town and picking up three new books (donations to charity).

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 19:37

Well for the first time this month I've come to the gym!!! Really proud of myself for getting off my arse after work and dragging myself here. Now I've remembered how bright the lights are here I'll be here more often I think!!

lechatnoir · 07/10/2024 21:03

Well done @itwasnevermine I also just done my first proper in person class in a long time. Was bloody hard work but felt good to be out and doing something rather than talking about it!

pistachio89 · 08/10/2024 15:26

Hope everyone is having a good day. I've just finished my period. It's been absolutely horrendous, mentally and physically.

Had a pretty rubbish weekend in terms of food and didn't lose anything but had a decent Monday and scaled were 1.1kg down today. Probably mostly period weight.

I have decided I am going to get into detoxing herbal teas - whilst I am eating a lot less and not overloading my body - so been drinking them. And also I just got some Symprove and going to take that daily, try to increase the amount of good bacteria in my stomach again whilst it's not overloaded.

Oldgalgames · 09/10/2024 21:39

Dropping in, well done everyone for your achievements big or small. I have been away with my friends last weekend so I wasn't particularly healthy however straight back to pilates and walking in all weathers. Just wondered in anyone had tried any of the various green drinks that seem to be the hype at the moment?

lechatnoir · 10/10/2024 08:54

@Oldgalgames & @pistachio89 interesting you both mention teas as I've just dug out an old box of green tea as I was reading about the stress busting + energy boosting properties both of which I really need! I'm not a fan of straight green tea but do quite like the Pukka ginseng matcha or mint match green teas and if nothing else I find adding a couple of herbal teas ups my fluid intake as I'm pretty bad at drinking enough.

So far pretty good for me - managed a short morning yoga session every day except Sunday and eaten pretty well with significant reduction in mindless snacking! Just remembered another thing to add to my October 'To Do' list - PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES! Shouting because it's so important as we age and I know mine isn't what it was even 2 or 3 years ago let alone pre-big babies and I seem to have got out of the habit so starting off with just doing 10 when I clean my teeth morning and evening - can always build on that.
