Anyone up for sorting their lives out in October?

Pretty sure every time I say I'm going to do this the universe hears me and sends a huge curveball at me. Hoping this time is different

I want to get on top of my nutrition and exercise before winter really sets in and I feel even more miserable. Just getting over a cold so I'm going for a long walk at lunch to get my 10k steps in, and have slow cooked beef with veg and mash for tea tonight.

Good morning everyone!

4pbs down so far in October and I'm feeling really good compared to my usual autumn funk. I'm fully expecting this will disappear in a couple of weeks when the clocks go back! I'm off to get my nails done this morning and I'm probably going to go for a walk at the beach afterwards because it's such a beautiful day

Just did my first yoga session in months, gosh I feel so much better! It really does get the endorphins flowing which has been much needed i think.

Lost 2kg this week!

Amazing! I've just been out on a nice long walk, it's so nice to get out in the sun

I made it to a 'active for health' gym session for the disabled today and I'm so glad I went. I'll ache later but it's good to feel like I'm trying.

Sourisblanche · 11/10/2024 10:16

I’ve been on my water rower every morning this week. Finally did a long yoga session this morning and used my foam roller. Gosh my legs are tight but I feel better for it.

Well done everyone on their successes.

<Adds pelvic floor exercises to list> 😅

Not been doing so great as I've been away. Things I've noticed:

  • When I'm alcohol free, I am so much tidier (clothes put away rather than just discarded for example)
  • Getting in one of my five a day at breakfast feels to set the tone for the rest of the day.

I am on day 12 of Sober October and my god a wine would taste so good right now ha!
Otherwise, I feel like I have a lot more energy so I am a lot more productive at work and home. I'm currently planning DC's birthday which is next month.

I'm thinking about joining a gym but I really don't know where/when I will be able to fit it in, which makes me a bit annoyed!

Well I called it - I always say I'm sorting my life out and something goes wrong!! This time I've ended up on crutches with a seriously bad sprained ankle

Oldgalgames · 18/10/2024 07:22

On no OP! Hope your ankle improves soon.

I'm hoping everyone is having a productive October. Iv been getting into strength training recently which has been enjoyable, I am very amateur so just learning at the moment but the benefits look great. I am considering signing up for the 5k squat challenge to raise money for MND in November however not sure my legs are quite upto it at the moment!

We are going on holiday next week to a glam ping site which will mean eating out most of the week, slightly frustrating as I have been tracking my calories and protein daily

Sourisblanche · 18/10/2024 08:19

Oh no @itwasnevermine how long will you have to be on crutches?

I’ve had an okay week, walking loads but I also seem to be nibbling lotsConfused

Day off today and need get a lot of small admin done and some yoga/foam rolling. So off mumsnet I go!

itwasnevermine · 18/10/2024 08:23

@Oldgalgames thank you!

@Sourisblanche the doctor at the hospital said 2 weeks, which basically means any exercise for October is out of the window. Hoping it starts to feel better over the weekend and I can avoid them after the middle of next week

Oh op sorry to hear that what a pain (in every sense!)

Some great work going on here - much like many of you the whole food thing isn't great but keeping up the exercise and trying to be more healthy generally.

Managed 3rd run of my couch2 5k which I'm pleased with just need to keep it up and make sure my yoga doesn't slip. Would love to do some strength training - how did you get in to it?

lechatnoir · 20/10/2024 21:19

Sorry that Q was aimed at @Oldgalgames

A couple of my friends have been using a fitness trainer and they look incredible which gave me the urge to look into strength training. I can't personally justify the coast of a trainer so I have been following a couple of social media accounts to get used to the lifts and muscle groups, I do have some resilience bands which have been useful however I have upgraded my gum membership so I can start to increase the weight of my lifts past what the resilance bands can offer. I have also worked out my protein and calorie intake to help me loose fat but not muscle, still learning but really enjoying it, I'm not a cardio fan so this is much better for me

dayslikethese1 · 23/10/2024 09:18

I say I'm going to sort my life out every other week it seems like😄I like the idea of Q4 reset though before winter grinds me down. I'm trying to get my sleep patterns back in line, drink less, get back into cooking and enjoy every bit if Autumn sun when it's out. May go on a lunchtime walk later as I need to post a letter anyway.

dayslikethese1 · 23/10/2024 09:18

Oh and try and remember to take my vitamins and clean my teeth thoroughly.

lechatnoir · 24/10/2024 09:29

Doing a bit of a check-in against my original pledge. I'm definitely feeling better for more exercise & generally more positive than I have in a long while so glad I'm still working on the little targets although not sure I will have 'sorted my life out' in the next week!

Daily yoga: not every day but am now doing class one evening plus 3 or 4 shorter sessions at home and feeling far less stiff and immobile.

Weekly exercise class: done 2 weeks now of a beginner's strength training class which I'm hoping will inspire to do more.

Daily walk: Yes plus on week 3 of doing Couch2 5k

Lose 5 lbs: 3lb down happy with that just need to stop evening snacking!

Socialise once a week: This has been a real positive move - went to the cinema one night, DH & I went for an evening dog walk via the pub another, met up with some mum friends. Just making a conscious effort to get out each week.

Sort HRT - new regime is suiting me much better so fingers crossed this holds.

Take Daily iron and vitamins - Yes although no idea if they're doing any good!

Pelvic floor: working on it! A long way off where it should be (& I swear it took me a week to actually find the bloody muscles!) but now in good habit of doing few sets first & last thing. Plus more sex definitely helps pelvic floor & mood!

How are you all doing? Any other things you can recommend to lift your mood and sort your life out? I might start painting my nails again & getting my eyebrows done professionally. I do think it's these little things that got dropped in lockdown/when I started wfh that have contributed to my general lack of zing & feeling good about myself and disinterest in going out as I'm just less 'face the world' ready. Anyone else relate to this?

BriannasBananaBread · 24/10/2024 12:15

Yes lechatnoir I feel miserable if I don't get washed and dressed, fix my hair and do makeup. I just don't like feeling a mess and slobbing around in pyjamas.

Other things to cheer you up.
Put some music on when you wake. No need to overthink it. Have a radio tuned to your favourite station and switch it on for an hour.
Cull your wardrobe. Get rid of anything tatty, doesn't fit or you don't like it. Have a style, even if it's old fashioned, alternative and niche, or really really basic. Put anything that's outside this style but you want to keep, separately. Makes getting dressed in the morning easier, means you never go out feeling dressed "wrong" and ensures that checking for mistakes in the mirror before you leave always makes you smile.

I would have wrote this @lechatnoir@lechatnoir, I have stated to get my eyebrows done professionally regularly in the last 6 months, it makes such a difference as is inexpensive for the boost it gives me

lechatnoir · 25/10/2024 08:59

You've inspired me @Oldgalgames - just booked a lunchtime brow wax! I'm a bit skint at the moment so manicures and hair colour is out but brow shape & wax makes such a difference & only costs me £12. Will be painting my nails tonight 💅

@BriannasBananaBread morning music is a good shout & I did actually have a massive wardrobe cull before I put my winter clothes away (limited wardrobe space so I keep in a suitcase & rotate) but shocked how little I have left so trawling through Vinted for new clothes and keeping to a simple style is definitely something I'm trying to stick to.
