Anyone up for sorting their lives out in October?

Pretty sure every time I say I'm going to do this the universe hears me and sends a huge curveball at me. Hoping this time is different

I want to get on top of my nutrition and exercise before winter really sets in and I feel even more miserable. Just getting over a cold so I'm going for a long walk at lunch to get my 10k steps in, and have slow cooked beef with veg and mash for tea tonight.

I've started the day well and just completed day one of a 30 day set - Yoga With Adriene on YouTube if anyone fancies joining me. I'm doing the Flow series but there are loads of them and most sessions are not much more than 20 minutes.

Radionowhere · 01/10/2024 13:28

Day 1. I'm stiff, weak and podgy. I've been fit, strong and bendy in the past so I know what I need to do. Motivation has been lacking.

Anyhow, thought I'd start off with a bit of yoga so did this first thing: Found it challenging if I'm honest, but blessedly short and felt better for it.

Had to nip home to let the dogs out at lunchtime so did Day1 of Caroline Girvan's iron programme. which is what I'd intended to do first thing but procrastinated. Used much lighter weights than I would have done a few months ago but conscious that previous returns to strength training after a break have resulted in DOMS for days so trying not to overdo it.

I think I'm going to have to start calorie counting. While I want to be stronger the body fat ratio is too high and exercise alone won't fix that. Might think about that some more tomorrow....

I was all up for sorting my life out and then got landed with a £1600 car bill 🙃 The car has passed the MOT but has some very urgent safety things such as the cam belt etc that needs to be done asap so that's been a fun few hours sorting out. We're on a tight budget as I'm on maternity leave and most of our budget is already allocated but we've managed to swing it.

I still feel like I'm orbiting Jupiter from all the stress of managing money this morning but I think it counts as sorting my life out? 🫠

@Radionowhere I love Adrienne and Caroline! I did the whole of iron series earlier this year, I definitely used lighter weights but still got results. I used to do a lot of yoga, I really need it back in my life- I feel crunchy and brittle now in my bones and muscles, whereas before I was really supple. Thanks for reminders for both 👍

WhitegreeNcandle · 01/10/2024 15:56

Hello, please can I join in. I started the year well but have gone downhill since summer I’ve leT things slide that help me - meditation, planning, prayer and exercise.

Back on it form today! Todays food:

B overnight oats
L - mushroom stroganoff
T - salmon sandwich
supper - a bit
of cheese and biscuits at 8pm.

trying to do MFP. Run three times a week and two strength. Might need to revisit my HRT as the anxiety and stress levels are through the roof.

Hope to get o know you all!

BrioLover · 01/10/2024 16:08

Yes please from me too. Would be good to focus on things that make me feel good, especially as I watch the rain come down and slowly leak through the tiny split in my bay window roof Confused

AutumnalCosiness · 01/10/2024 16:15

I'm in!

Am also off the HRT @WhitegreeNcandle as it was making me anxious.

Exercise is definitely where I need a kick up the bum.

Had veg soup for dinner.
Contemplating tofu & stir fry for dinner.

Am taking some new supplements:
Omega 3
Magnesium Glycinate
Collagen
Probacteria

I need to weight train!!!

Els1e · 01/10/2024 16:33

Can I join please? I'm planning doing Sober October but there's lots of other bits that need sorting too. Lose weight, sort out money, stop spending so much

FirecrackerK · 01/10/2024 16:34

Me! Following for when I come to sort my life out soon 😉

BriannasBananaBread · 01/10/2024 18:02

I bought ingredients in the supermarket instead of ready meals.

itwasnevermine · 01/10/2024 18:10

Definitely not making it to the gym tonight, due to the five hours of sleep I had last night! But I've eaten well and im walking further than usual tonight

Everyone needs to weight train but even more so if you're off the HRT. It will strengthen your bones! V important through menopause and beyond.

Iv had a good start for October, got up early and went for a long walk in the sunshine then did some stretches and sat enjoying a cup of tea all before 8am which has really made such a huge impact on how I approached work today

Browniesandcustard · 01/10/2024 18:46

@Radionowhere can you recommend any weight training mini workouts on YouTube at all (please)? I’ve had a look and theres loads and I wouldn’t know where to start!

I’m going for a walk in a minute. I’ve sent a couple of emails that I’d been putting off doing this morning so a small start but a start at least ….!

loropianalover · 01/10/2024 19:20

Happy 1st everyone 😊 I would say today was ‘okay’. I had 3 meals:

B - small sausage roll, coffee
11am - banana
L - apple, cream cheese bagel, hummus crisps w red pepper hummus
D - homemade veggie pizza with homemade wedges

I will have a treat watching Bake-off too.

I WFH, did laundry and went for a 20 minute walk on my lunch break. My skin is breaking out a bit which is really getting me down - I did a clarifying face mask after my shower but I never feel like they do anything…

DiggoryVenn · 01/10/2024 19:28

I'll join (just come back from holiday, so totally need an October reset)!

Successes today:
5 of my 5 a day
Exercise: long walk
No alcohol (3 day streak)

Also started taking Vitamin D, but will have a bit of think about the vitamins I do need to take.

Love Caroline Girvan - was doing her Iron programme for about 2 months before my holiday and it is amazing how much easier I found mountains to climb (and I had been using pretty light weights). So, I'm going to restart that too.

lechatnoir · 01/10/2024 21:01

@Browniesandcustard I've been gently dipping my toe back into exercise and really enjoying Caroline's circuits. You can pay to get live sessions but there's load on YouTube including 15 & 20 mins with weights. It's definitely not heavy lifting but a good intro and to get your body used to regular exercise.

Radionowhere · 01/10/2024 21:03

@Browniesandcustard Caroline Girvan all the way. The beginners program is probably the best place to start if the moves are new to you. The Heat program workouts are about half an hour from memory. She has a subscription app now but loads of free stuff on YouTube.

itwasnevermine · 02/10/2024 09:12

Day two has started a lot better, I slept! Aiming to get 10k steps today with a walk at lunch to free up my evening to tick off a unit or two from my masters

re-starting as day 1 was rubbish. I am not going to weigh myself until the end of October. I am giving October my everything. Currently struggling to get up in the mornings, feel like I am coaxing my way through the day half asleep

BrioLover · 02/10/2024 11:43

Yesterday this gave me some inspiration and I took a pile of old clothes to the local charity bin thingy. Today I am going to wander around the house in my lunch hour and dust all the corners that have annoyed me but I have been too lazy to do.

Started off with a dog walk and a protein yoghurt so feeling optimistic for the month Smile

Els1e · 02/10/2024 15:07

A so so start. Did a few jobs, been to charity shop, no alcohol or chocolate. But diet wasn't great. Went for a walk and planteur F is playing up. I think I need some new walking shoes which wrecks the aim for a low spend month. Still, early days

DiggoryVenn · 02/10/2024 19:28

Successes today:
5 of my 5 a day
Exercise: walk
No alcohol (4 day streak)
Also managed a few jobs that I had been putting off (cleaning windows and kitchen cupboards - they don't take long so why do I procrastinate so much!)

But back to a full day of work tomorrow, so hopefully this continues.

discoballdave · 02/10/2024 19:50

Had my contraceptive implant out today so I'm hoping I'll see more results with weight loss without the additional hormones in my body.

Car is back too. An expensive but necessary fix!

Didn't eat the best today but got my steps in so I'm taking it as a win.

loropianalover · 02/10/2024 20:34

Crap day 🙈 I only had coffee and a McDonalds happy meal.

Work was crap, house was a mess. I did tidy up the living room after work, washed and changed bedding, and washed/blow dried my hair for the office. Have an outfit laying out and all skincare etc. that I’ll need. So hopefully I can start tomorrow off on the right foot.
