The real stuff not Greek style. Haven't been able to buy it in Aldi for two weeks, tried Asda today, no luck, only Greek style available. Anyone else having trouble finding it?

I'm finding it hard to believe they Fage manufacture in Greece. For a start, they manufacture for the USA in the Netherlands.

I doubt it too, it will probably be made in the UK or perhaps the Netherlands and it will be made for UK tastes, hence no 10% fat even though people probably prefer that. DH worked in a food place that made goods for different countries and the factories in the other countries changed the recipes slightly for that country.

Wonderknicks · 12/09/2024 22:25

No it's not all manufactured in Greece (& they do manufacture in the USA).

As far as I am aware, under EU rules, Greek Yoghurt has to be made in Greece Wink And although we're no longer in the EU, I think under the FCA by which we exited, we still have to respect that.

Greek Style can be made anywhere Grin

Wonderknicks · 12/09/2024 22:39

I thinks it's manufactured in the Netherlands for Europe.

prettybird · 12/09/2024 23:40

Exhibit 1: my current tub of Greek yoghurt. Made in Greece Smile

Exhibit 2: albeit an old Tub of Greek style yoghurt (which I still use as a storage container as it has a handle). Made in Germany. (More recent production may well be in Netherlands).

The problem is the "Style" bit is written deliberately very small and in a different direction to the "Greek" bit. Hence the confusion Hmm

@Wonderknicks they say on their own website that they manufacture for USA in the Netherlands. It is a fact, not a personal opinion.

Wonderknicks · 13/09/2024 13:33

I think it's all quite deliberately obscure. Other sources say they have opened a factory in the US!
Way back in 2014 there was a ruling about Greek yoghurt having to be made in Greece. This doesn't seem to be the case any more.

Wonderknicks · 13/09/2024 15:15

Their website must contradict itself.
Google AI tells me it's made in Luxembourg. Other places say the Netherlands. Not in the UK, anyway!

Shed loads of Fage in my local Waitrose today, all 3 %s & the different sized pots. Hoorah!

BIWI · 13/09/2024 19:01

Interesting. On Sainsbury's website, it's listed as:

FAGE Total 5% Fat Natural Greek Recipe Strained Yoghurt

... so not made in Greece any more.

Whereas Sainsbury's Taste the Difference is:

from the Macedonian Region of Greece

prettybird · 13/09/2024 20:27

Looking at both the Fage web site and
the current Fage packaging, it very carefully doesn't describe its own product is "Greek yoghurt". Confused It just implies and conflates it.

It's no longer as good as the real Greek yoghurt anyway as the fat level is too low Wink

I've just had to give in and buy some of the Lidl Greek Style yoghurt (produced in the UK using UK milk Wink). Will have to add lots of double cream to it to make it less sour when I'm making my breakfast bowl. Hopefully I'll find some real stuff soon and I can relegate the rest of the tub to make home tzatziki Grin

I've managed to buy Morrison's The Best "Authentic Greek Yoghurt" (made in Greece Grin) today Smile

I bought 2 tubs.

Birmingbacon · 14/09/2024 14:44

Yep big supply problems recently in our co-op

BirdIsland · 14/09/2024 14:49

Tim's Dairy do amazing Greek yogurt - made in the UK but a Greek family business. Hard to track down but they have it in Waitrose.

Alpolonia · 14/09/2024 20:54

Still none available in Aldi!

xsquared · 14/09/2024 21:01

Plenty of Fage in Sainsbury's.

None at all in Aldi today - either 0% or 10% fat. But Sainsbury's had loads, thankfully.

prettybird · 15/09/2024 17:29

I'd forgotten to check in Sainsbury's on Friday but I'd had to pop back to Lidl yesterday and Morrison's is literally on the other side of the road, so I thought I'd pop in to see. Smile

wwyd2021medicine · 16/09/2024 15:16

I've got some from Waitrose
Still none at all in lidl at all of any fat content so I bought their plain protein yoghurt again (single ingredient of milk)
