Where's the Greek Yogurt gone?

The real stuff not Greek style. Haven't been able to buy it in Aldi for two weeks, tried Asda today, no luck, only Greek style available. Anyone else having trouble finding it?

@BIWI I haven't seen it over the summer but surely it was around relatively recently. I think the 5% is pretty thick and creamy anyway.

space99 · 10/09/2024 17:29

My Aldi hasn’t had it for weeks either. Very annoying! Had to buy some from Sainsbury’s instead.

MissyB1 · 10/09/2024 17:29

Yes I don’t buy Greek style because I’ve always been told it’s too processed.

Agree that I haven't found it in Aldi for weeks.... they do seem to do this from time to time, often before the packaging changes. I assume they've had a supplier change in the background. It is very annoying.

Just got back from Aldi and was disappointed there wasn’t any. They’d even removed the label from the shelf. I worry it’s not coming back…

This is Greek style which I bought as lidl had no faux Fage.
Although Greek style rather than Greek, it has only milk as ingredient.

A lot of Greek style yoghurts have around 3.6g protein per 100g whereas proper Greek yoghurt is usually around 10g protein per 100g.

So they’re not comparable if it’s the protein you’re after.

Fascinating, I didn't know that, thanks - OTOH a quick look shows that M&S "Authentic" greek yoghurt is only 6.5, whereas an alternative like Skyr (Icelandic) is 10.6

So you really have to be on the ball and check the label if its the protein you want, and there are other comparable sources.

Of topic slightly but I still mourn the day you stopped being able to get the Fage Goats/Sheeps milk Geek yoghurt. That stuff was the GOAT (literally! :-)) Why Fage, why!???

rumblegrumble · 10/09/2024 17:54

Had plenty in Waitrose yesterday, though didn't get any as I have enough to get me though to next week. Going to be annoyed if they've run out by then - please don't all rush out to stock up...! Definitely think Waitrose the best, followed by M&S, followed by Tesco. Not tried other supermarkets. Amazed someone prefers Fage tbh, feels so thin and bland when you're used to the 10%. Use Fage 0% to mix with berries and flaxseed if I'm feeling super healthy, but if I had to choose one food for the rest of my life I would very likely choose Waitrose 10% with a (very) generous dollop of honey!

It might possibly have been affected (production or exports) by the outbreaks of peste des petits ruminants (PPR) ?

No idea why lots of people saying Brexit can’t be to blame.
New border checks were introduced in May (after being postponed a couple of times) which could well be having an impact…

Our local Tesco sells this. It’s incredible. https://lancashirefarm.com/products/greek-style-luxury-yogurt/

similar to yogurts I’ve had in Greece or Türkiye.

I get this one at Morrisons. I love it and mix it with honey or lemon curd. I get very upset when it's out of stock because all the other Greek Style yoghurt I've tried are nothing like it.

Caspianberg · 10/09/2024 18:17

I used to buy fage 10% in the uk in the past, but the best alternative I can get is the m and s 10% Greek now when I visit

we now live Central Europe and the best Greek yogurt locally is Mevgal. If you can find in the uk I highly recommend

The Waitrose no1 Greek yoghurt seems to have changed. I had some this week and it seems less thick ?

saraclara · 10/09/2024 18:52

RottenApplesSpoilTheLot · 10/09/2024 17:21

the only difference between Greek and Greek style is that Greek has to be made in Greece 🤷🏼‍♀️

No it isn't. Greek style is runny and smooth. Greek (strained) is thick (it looks solid when you open the tub) and has a slightly grainy texture

saraclara · 10/09/2024 18:54

I've not seen any change in stock at Tesco. I buy it at least once a week and the stocks of Finest and Fage have been the same as normal.

ChoccyJules · 10/09/2024 18:55

Cheekily jumping on to ask if anyone has found Bearnaise recently? I have scoured the supermarkets :-(

Yes - Waitrose again!

my husband bought the full fat Tesco Greek style one, it was terrible.

morrisons “the best” 10% fat one is quite good

What?! The Tesco Greek style is one of my favourite things to eat in the world, I eat it every day.

I can't bear the ones that are kind of solid. The texture gives me the heeby jeebies.

Ah see I like those ones, it’s the runny ones I don’t like! 🤣

I guess if I was whisked away to a greek island to eat yoghurt on a sunny patio I could probably choke down the authentic wobbly greek yoghurt. Until then I'll have my runny Tesco one 😂

MissyB1 · 11/09/2024 08:23

I didn’t realise there was such variation on the protein content, I will have to check more carefully. Can’t get to M&S this week so Waitrose it will have to be. I definitely like the thick stuff not runny.

I can’t seem to find Fage 10% anywhere. I love the Tim’s dairy Greek style though, and their kefir. No thickeners or anything and 10% fat.

10% Fage isn't sold here any more (see up thread), that's why you can't find it.
