@IWanderedLonely ....wow 4 week wait must have been tough.
Good luck for tomorrow and hope you and him get help and answers.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/08/2024 01:00

Iwandered, so sorry to hear about you and ds. Sending you love and strength. 🩷🙏

Penguinsa · 28/08/2024 04:13

Iwandered So sorry to hear about your DS and the awful wait to see a GP. In our area you can self-refer for counselling without GP, its an English service

https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-NHS-talking-therapies-service

Though its annoying as it tends to be 6 sessions only and a 6 month wait and often the first service is the wrong one so then they refer you to another one but it does at least bypass GP if its counselling only. Other thing we have is a crisis service on 111 option 2, again not great, as its generally waiting an hour for someone to answer the phone but they do have same day services available if you have got through the wait. I would phone for someone who isn't well as that hours wait is brutal and pass phone over. Hope the GP will help.

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/08/2024 09:23

Sorry to hear that iwondered. Hope the GP offers the help your DS needs.

Deathraystare · 28/08/2024 14:44

Hello Everyone!

@HildaTablet Sorry to hear you are unwell again. There seems to be a lot going around! I would feel a lot better if regularly took my medication. I get breathless without it so you would have thought I would!

@MissConductUS I believe you are right about the ship building. That is a lovely stretch of water you photographed. What would it be described as ? A lake? For some reason, I love watching films particularly American ones where they stay in a cabin near a lake. Love to do that although a bit worried about bears and paranormal stuff!

I had a few days off work and one day went with a friend to Bromley (South East, now part of Greater London). We took a train from Victoria. Of course she was late! ( she is on Caribbean time!). I could not find a seat* - there seemed to be only four and I cannot stand for long so sat on the ground. I was out of everyone's way but some made a deliberate detour to walk over my legs. I reckon they thought I was homeless so that showed up their attitude! Similarly, I sat down outside a cafe while my friend went in a shop (she takes so long I need to sit down!). My friend came back and commented on a woman giving me a nasty look. I have narcolepsy and often fall asleep. Not for long but it keeps happening. So again she obviously thought I was homeless! Although I must say, people usually ask me if I am alright.

Anyway we got to M&S and there was a sale on with lots of big sizes for once (normally the first to go). My friend (only a size 16) got a few pairs of trousers and was happy with them.

  • Too late I found a number of seats in another part of the station just as we were getting the train but I wanted to sit somewhere she would find me!
DandyDandylion · 28/08/2024 17:36

Talking of having to sit down, did everyone see what happened to Tanni Grey Thompson? She was waiting for the disabled assistance to disembark her train which they promise will arrive within a certain timeframe. Left without help she got out of her wheelchair, throwing it and all her luggage off the train she then pulled herself off onto the platform. Now most wheelchair users would not have her upper body strength but the story has gained legs and highlighted how awfully some people are treated.

Havoc, our house was built in 1986 and has only single glazed windows. And we have lots of sliding glass doors that are a single pane of glass as well. We want to replace a few of those when we do the kitchen renovation. I'm sure we'll save a lot in heating and cooling costs.

Deathray, that body of water is the Hudson River. Lots more photos of the area here:

https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/hudson-highlands

The area is gorgeous. When my daughter got married in June, the reception venue had a view like those of the river and the mountains.

The men in high viz have lowered the water level in the reservoir again, so now the turtles have to climb out of the water to sun themselves on the log.

@DandyDandylion I have seen the story. Some of the backlash she has received is quite frightening really. Things like the fact she shouldn't be travelling alone or that she shouldn't be traveling on bank holidays when there are less staff to assist her. Awful things like that. Someone close to me is in a wheelchair and it makes my blood boil reading some of the keyboard worrier comments.

Transport for wheelchair users needs an overhaul in my opinion.

In dull news I looked around a job yesterday. I'm not 100% sure I want to go for it but the challenge would be amazing.

Cant sleep DS woke from a nightmare some Time ago now and now am wide awake.

mathanxiety · 29/08/2024 04:28

Iwandered wishing you and your DS a productive appointment.

MissC lovely turtle photo.

We had quite a few storms last night, bringing the oppressive heat to an end. I went out to get pizza for dinner just before the storms burst upon us (too hot to cook) and the sky looked like the crack of doom.

The heat index went up to about 46C (115F) on Tuesday with horrible humidity. It's still humid but not as hot. I've turned off the AC and hopefully won't need it again until next July.

The local roadworks continue to amaze. The streets division have managed to dig up and close two major routes across town and have dug up all the curbs adjacent to not one, not two, but three local schools, starting a week before schools went back. The result is gridlock all morning and all afternoon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/08/2024 06:15

Math, weather sou ds pretty gross! 🥵

Celebrated baby's 8 months with cake today. Friend joined us and we went for a walk after and popped into a couple shops to poke around.

bizzey · 29/08/2024 20:03

Our holiday planning has got interesting!

We have a group chat ...mainly just ds1 and myself !
If ds2 replies to anything ....I think ...
Ohh that's good ...he is alive 🤣🤣

bizzey · 29/08/2024 20:14

I think I have now come around to the idea of an apartment rather than hotel.

At least it will be cheaper food wise , to be able to do a quick meal in the kitchen before going out than using restaurants.

I mean...I don't really mean a posh meal!!

I mean just pasta and a sauce type heat up meal !

I am not cooking on holiday ! 🤣

We have narrowed down our criteria ...and know what is important to everyone.

(Well apart from ds2&3 who really don't care ! 😁)

I want balcony
Ds1 wants own bed , not share a double with brother
Ds3 wants balcony overlooking any canal./water

Ds2 ....he is so easy going he doesn't care ! ( Though I think sharing the bed might be on his agenda !)

So we have to factor in
Cost
Bedrooms
Beds
Balcony
Bathroom X2
Area

Ohh and location on the property ....

Roof top terrace sounds wonderful...

Then you realise there is no lift !

To be fair ...Venetian properties don't go very high ...

but I hate stairs !

Edited : so many typos !!

Penguinsa · 29/08/2024 20:21

Had the man in to repair the damage DS did before to the boiler and he did it all apart from 1 plug needs to add so will be good to have a working boiler again. Its been warm so it hasn't bothered us much, just also does hot water in bath but we have an electric shower over we can get hot water from.

DS made himself hot dogs. Yesterday DH and I did a few hours gardening and DD said whole time we were gardening DS was in the bath. Does seem to love the floral bath foam and conditioner.

Nice turtles MissC

Good luck with job if go for it Lemons

Always nice to have cake Havoc I had a bakewell tart today from the bakers.

bizzey · 29/08/2024 20:21

But now ..that means doing flights separately 😲😟😟..

I am always worried about doing the 2 things separately.

But I cat find appartment and flight deals .

Just hotel and flight.

DandyDandylion · 29/08/2024 21:03

I’ve never booked a package holiday @bizzey , I prefer the flexibility of booking separately. We have holiday insurance which covers problems. Sometimes we fly in, stay a few nights then travel a bit stay, a few nights and fly back from a different airport. Packages seem so off the shelf unless you pay big bucks.

bizzey · 29/08/2024 21:59

Dandy . Thank you ...good to know.

I think previously the boys have been younger so I had a lot of responsibility for them.

Now I suppose...if things go awry ...we are all adult enough to sort it. .

Price wise ....it is all coming out around the same mark.

Just depends what we want /important things.

Annoying thing is I have 2 airports to choose from.

The slightly cheaper flight airport is a bit further away ...so what you seem to save on the holiday /flights...gets eaten up in travel to/from the airport !

Lots of things to weigh up .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2024 00:34

Bizzey, I'd create and Air B&B acct and poke around and also check vrbo:

https://www.vrbo.com/en-ca/vacation-rentals/italy

I've used both. No issues.

bizzey · 30/08/2024 01:25

Havov ...that link is so fun !

There are some of the same places I have been looking at !

Unsure of C$ ( dollar ?) and stuff but the Canadian prices were 1000 more than the English

(Does that make sense !)

Canadian...2348
Sterling ......1348

Sort of thing !

bizzey · 30/08/2024 01:26

I thought your value was sort of same as USA $?

bizzey · 30/08/2024 01:28

A bit more than our £
?

bizzey · 30/08/2024 01:30

Ohhhh ...you are 177.54 !

bizzey · 30/08/2024 01:32

I do know what I am talking about!

I had USA At 1.3
Now I know Canada is..
1.7 .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2024 01:36

Bizzey, try changing countries on the site or looking it up on a new browser just typing in VRBO

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2024 01:46

Bizzey, it costs me $1.78 to buy one UK pound and $1.36 to buy one US dollar. So, it's quite expensive to travel.
