4:22am. Nursing baby. More milk for Havoc. Sesame Street on tv. Banana bread in oven and will be ready around 5am. Have just cleaned bathroom and wiped floor.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2024 17:42

It's just after 9:30am and having a latte and banana cho chip walnut bread. 🤗
Fell back asleep around 6. Doing okay!
DC are fine. I can see a bit of blue sky and fresh snow on the mountains. 🤗
Must go to Costco later.

Bizzey, how did your appt go?

sproutsandparsnips · 18/11/2024 21:35

Oh gosh Havoc that sounds exhausting but your energy and organisation are amazing!
Bizzey hope the doctor rang you back.
Today has been exhausting in work. So busy. But chilling now.
About to have left over dinner from yesterday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2024 22:06

Any snow where you are Sprouts? I'm following a thread about it right now. 😀

sproutsandparsnips · 18/11/2024 22:38

@Mumtobabyhavoc not here, we are quite far west in Wales so don't have as much snow as some. I can see there is some already in northern England.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2024 23:06

@sproutsandparsnips MrsCarson says it's snowing in Snowdonia (but, of course).

sproutsandparsnips · 18/11/2024 23:09

Ah yes of course Havoc. It's always a lot colder in north Wales than South Wales - also a lot higher generally.

Umanresources · 19/11/2024 00:59

We’ve had snow already. It does feel a lot colder today, but I stayed in bed until 5 tonight. I woke up with a really bad headache this morning and slept on and off all day. Got up and had a drink and a sandwich which was delicious after fasting all day.
Caught up with my daughter this evening, as she’s been in Portugal for a week. Yesterday morning she was on the beach, today she was taking videos of the snowfall!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 01:52

I hope you're ok @Umanresources

Just got home from Costco and put together a snack platter of sausage rolls, gyoza, naan, spinach dip, strawberries and grapes. We have banana bread, choc chip cookies and froyo for dessert. I'm ready to cozy in for a chilly 3c night here in Vancouver!

mathanxiety · 19/11/2024 03:24

It's not cooked yet, DucklingSwimmingInstructress!

I went on a reconnaissance trip to Costco where I checked their turkey offerings and filled up my gas tank. On my way home I spotted a big and very forlorn Swiss cheese plant by a curb, in a pile of leaves and pumpkins that someone had left out for the yard waste pickup. It's now in my kitchen in a big plastic bag that I had in the boot, and my job for tomorrow is to find a pot it will fit into and a spot to put it in my dining room. This time last year I acquired two rubber plants in similar circumstances.

DD is making brownies to bring to her job tomorrow. They smell great and I envy her colleagues.

mathanxiety · 19/11/2024 03:25

Stay warm everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 04:14

It's now 2c. 🥶
Feeling very efficient as both dc and I have bathed and in pj's etc. and Havoc is asleep! 🥳
Baby is rather alert and nursing and in a phase where nursing is hilarious. 🤷‍♀️😂 (Pulls away, looks closely and giggles).

Taking dc for covid+flu shots tomorrow then straight to paediatrician for baby's check-up. Scheduling is rather tight. 😬
Forecast is for a bomb cyclone tomorrow through Wednesday. Great. 😵‍💫🌧️☔️💨
There was a huge flash of lightning this morning around 11:45am. I thought it was an explosion because it was SO LOUD and all I saw was orange light over head. Apparently it was a massive bolt straight down. ⛈️😬

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 07:03

And now it's snowing! ❄️

Deathraystare · 19/11/2024 07:32

It is raining here! No snow so far.

I used to wish I had a costco but as there is only me it is best not! I asked my Brother if he still goes but he hasn't been for ages. I guess since his kids grew up and left.

I used to sometimes accompany him when he bought huge bags of crisps, loads of Depends incontinence pads for mum and various other things. I used to love going in the 'cheese room'. Huuuuuge slabs of cheddar et al.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 07:50

Death, it's a misconception that it's not practical unless you're a big family. You just need to determine the items that best suit your needs to stock up on. ie I split packages of chicken, lamb etc into portions and freeze. Loo roll and kitchen towel are other items worth buying.
So are bath soap, shampoo, lotions (my face lotion is a huge savings!), pharmacy items, a lot, actually. You'd have to take time on the web-site.
The only thing I'm thinking in your case is that it would be difficult if you're not driving to carry items home by bus. We have delivery here, but the mark-up negates the savings, so I've only used it once and the shoppers aren't careful, so won't choose the best produce. 😡
You get about 1/3 more for the price on average otherwise, which is considerable.

Listening to podcasts from The Economics of Everyday Things. Currently listening to one about card counting (ie in casino blackjack).
Snow is mostly rain now.

Deathraystare · 19/11/2024 08:21

Of course... a few minutes after I had posted about no snow, we have had a few snow flakes!

@Mumtobabyhavoc
Yeah true - when going with my brother I used to get a huge pack of cotton wool pads. However, I would have a tendency to not stick to a list and overspend!!!

Penguinsa · 19/11/2024 08:34

That looks wonderful Sprouts and happy birthday.

Lovely cookies Havoc

DD has been rowing in the snow in Oxford. Just frost here.

Thai takeaway last night after DHs piano lesson. We also opened the musical biscuit tin and Floof was gazing at the music and wanted it played more. Then we got the Christmas gramophone out for him and played 3 songs and found he liked jingle bells best and was bouncing the end of his tail to it. Also has been sat gazing at Christmas tree lights. This morning he's been asking for the music again very early, managed to hold off until 7.30am but had jingle bells again.

HildaTablet · 19/11/2024 08:42

It snowed here last night, big flakes that settled. Melting now, though it’s still very cold. I’m wrestling with myself over keeping the heating on vs cuddling a hot water bottle….

Deathraystare · 19/11/2024 11:01

Well of course, when I say we had a bit of snow, it never lays!

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 19/11/2024 12:18

We just have normal boring cold rain. I'd love a bit of snow!

Quiet morning but have both children's teacher-parent meeting today plus cycling practise and a play date for my younger, so it's turning into a busy day !

DandyDandylion · 19/11/2024 12:25

Hope you re feeling better today Uman, headaches are the worse.

I call Costco the £10 shop because it reminds me of our pound shops just everything is 10 x as big. I think if you have a decent sized B&M locally you probably don’t need it. I just don’t have enough storage.

You have one tough cookie of a dd there Penguinsa, all my usual plans are off and I am sat with dcats looking out at the winter wonderland. Obviously I had to do the school run and throw haylage at the ponies. We woke up to more snow than I have seen in years. It seems to be melting now so I am a bit worried what the roads will be like tomorrow as forecast to go down to -3 overnight.

I assume with where you live snow is quite normal Havoc? We get a few flakes and everything grinds to a halt. Our local social media has stories of a tree crushing a car (lucky lady was helped out and is fine) and another tree taking out power cables so that village with no power.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 31: Calmly through the day
Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 15:04

Dandy, we get wet snow. It becomes icy quite fast and roads are a mess as a result. Most people have "all seasons" tires on their cars which aren't the best if the roads are bad. I also think mist people just don't know how to drive in snow. Add ice and it's often chaos here.
😵‍💫

Kpo58 · 19/11/2024 15:09

Today the bus didn't turn up and went round part of its route twice instead of going into town. It's an hourly bus service and there isn't another route that goes near where I live. When the bus did get to town, it changed numbers so I still couldn't get home. Thankfully the bus company has agreed to pay for the taxi fare home.

It's cold and wet today. No sign of snow.

In better news, I have managed to find and buy a couple of expansions for Ticket to Ride: Europe boardgame, so there is at least that to look forwards to (once it turns up).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/11/2024 15:29

@Kpo58 that's bizarre. What was the explanation given for the bus's odd route? Was the driver on glue? 😄
