In case I linked the wrong video, this is the one I meant to post.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 05:16

Math, that's quite a meal! I've really grown to like cranberry sauce. I make it like you mentioned. I've gone off turkey, though, in favour of duck and it is amazing with cranberry and orange.

Chilly 5c and raining here. Watching Star Wars, The Last Jedi with Havoc. We've just had s'mores. Messy, but fun and 😋

DandyDandylion · 17/11/2024 09:34

All this talk of food is making me look forwards to Christmas. The mashed potatoes from Miss and the sweet potato mash made by Maths particularly appeal. Both my dc have been completely put off mash by their primary school. I suspect they have been given something like smash served up from an ice cream scoop. I get it but it is frustrating as proper basic mash used to be a staple and one of the posh mashes being described would be such a treat. That said by the time I have roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes and parsnips there isn’t much room on the plate.
In our house a cross between cauliflower cheese and macaroni cheese is a regular quick midweek meal.
The super moon was quite bright here last night which is impressive with all the light pollution.

Jello salad Huh? And the Americans cannot believe we enjoy baked beans on toast!!! Sorry to offend but the thought of sweet potatoes and marchmallows on the same plate. EEEK!

HildaTablet · 17/11/2024 10:56

I love that song, @mathanxiety, all the more so because William Bolcom (accompanying his wife there) was a proper, serious composer.

Penguinsa · 17/11/2024 11:20

We went to RHS Wisley gardens yesterday and spent a couple of hours walking around it, the Christmas lights could be seen though don't open for another week or so, still some things in flower, cooler at 10C and days getting shorter now but was very nice. We had a meal there, I had roast chicken with veg and DH had a fish stew and rice and we later had a coffee at another cafe.

Thanksgiving plans sound great.

Death To add a photo below the box you type in (if on a desktop version) is add image you press then select a photo from your computer and press save then post as normal, can also preview it.

@Penguinsa
Thanks but my skills are not great. Photo on my ipod rather than computer. Will have to wait for technical wizard Marz to be in work. Hopefully next week!!!

Penguinsa · 17/11/2024 14:02

For me its the same on the ipad - there's a box I am typing in now and underneath it, there's a box with add image and another box with add GIF. You click on add image then another add image thing appears just below and click on that then you choose the photo and on mine its press open (might be save) and then post. You do have to type something in this box I am writing in now as well for it to post so can't post just a photo but can just be a word.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 17/11/2024 16:29

what a glorious meal @mathanxiety !

Beautifully quiet day here. Just lazing. Started the ironing and decided No, not going to do it. Normal life will resume tomorrow! :) It was a demanding week last in a number of ways so a totally lazy Sunday is lovely.

The children have been at their Papa's house, but they went out to a forest and Ive had some nice photos of the youngest about 10 meters up a tree like a red-trousered squirrel =)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 17:15

Gorgeous pic, Dandy!😍 I sympathize with your dc about getting turned off something if it's only ever been meh.
(Hmmm, that could apply to anything, really 😉)
But, back to food...
I don't make mashed potatoes often, but when I do:
scrubbed and cut up with skins on
boiled in very salted water
mashed 3/4 of the way skins on
add generous butter, then warm garlic cream and gently mash to finish

eta: finely chopped fresh dill and/or green onion are great additions

I can get behind that every time. 😋😋😋😋

Next potato chat should be about scalloped potatoes! 😛

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 17:38

Penguins, that sounds like such a nice day! The gardens are gorgeous. Brits really are masters of gardening!
Death, I'm with you re marshmallows on sweet potatoes. I should, however, make a pie subbing sweet potato mash for pumpkin as I'm sure it would be delish.
Math, just listened to that song. 😂😂😂🤢 Too funny - soooo 70's!!!!
Ducky, you deserve a lazy day! I hope you're enjoying it!
Death, penguinsa's instructions are same for me. When you are posting there's "add image" just below. Then another "add image" then select "photo library." 🤷‍♀️

Lazy Sunday here, too. Grey and 6c after rain all night. Grey Cup (football) today.
Pancakes with bananas foster again. Satueed sliced bananas in butter a bit then added brown sugar and two tablespoons rum (can be omitted). Swirled, sprinkled cinnamon and spooned over pancakes.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 17/11/2024 17:42

I love mashed potatoes with their skin on! makes the texture much more interesting. Cream and garlic, mmm. Basil might be nice too?

sproutsandparsnips · 17/11/2024 17:48

All looks lovely Penguinsa!
Loving the food descriptions, making me hungry.
Just been away overnight for joint birthday celebrations with work friends. Only 4 of us in the end, stayed in our colleague's holiday let and had a lovely time. Everyone so kind and generous and had some lovely walks and shopping, food conversation.

bizzey · 17/11/2024 20:23

Just saying !!
I add butter , garlic puree or a mustard choice depending on meal ...

Works well when it's just 2 of us !
(Or 4 if I am in a very lazy mood 😂! and buy 2 packs !!)

Lazy meal !

Photos are an example.

The frozen one , I have in freezer as emergency.

Fab for a mid week shepherd's pie !

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 17/11/2024 21:08

All this food chat is making me hungry! DH (who is a much better cook than me!) made a chicken dinner for tea today which was lovely.
Had an appointment re MS meds to see if any changes could be made, disappointingly, cos of my medical history, none are suitable.
Currently watching NFL game (odd for a Brit I know but have given up on the Welsh rugby side and their epically bad performances so this is a welcome change) and DH is getting very annoyed with his team as they’re currently not making the most of their chances.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 21:21

Baked some cookies: double choc w walnuts and m&m's to use up some of the Halloween candy we still have.
Meant to link in last post about our big game today. Home with 2 dc today and still in pj's. Ten years ago was behind end zone field level. Things have changed...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 21:25

And the cookies...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 21:27

It's difficult to post when a toddler climbs all over you...🤷‍♀️

MissConductUS · 17/11/2024 21:41

Shoes, I had no idea you and your DH were American football fans. What NFL game did you watch?

havoc, doing anything is harder when you have a toddler. Your cookies look fab. I've learned that both of my nephews are coming home for Thanksgiving, and one of them has two toddlers. I've ordered posh Chocolate Turkeys for everyone (12 in total). I think my SiL is going to have to set up a kids table.

I am decluttering the kitchen cabinets in anticipation of the remodeling in January. It's best to bin everything now rather than waiting until I have to pack up the cabinets in boxes.

@ShoesOnFirstThenCar yes they were awful again - had a brief moment when I thought they might turn it around....... but no. Our local side also suffered a heavy defeat yesterday - I'm quite glad I was elsewhere enjoying!

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 17/11/2024 21:47

Miss Steelers fans here….they just managed it thankfully! Bills and Chiefs on in the background now
Sensible to do as much preparation for the kitchen work as possible beforehand.

Sprouts not a good day to be a rugby fan in Wales! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend away tho, that’s a lovely view and very festive

bizzey · 18/11/2024 07:21

Up and awake (!! 😴 😁) waiting for on line doctors to open .

8am

Normally...I would just roll over and chill...

But today I am on a mission to get all jobs sorted 😁.

I have an annoying thing on my neck ..
Could be eczema, psoriasis, or even a burn !

I have tried self treatment...
Maybe let's see what the professionals say !

bizzey · 18/11/2024 08:39

Ohh ... someone will ring me between 9 and 2pm !

I have a good GP practice!
