We had a wild and windy Hallowe'en evening. We never get many trick or treaters here as it's a busy street and hard to cross. However, once my mouth returned to normal after the fillings, I put on a jacket and scarf and went out for a walk. The neighborhood was heaving with children in costumes dashing from house to house, family groups plodding a little slower, with leaves and woodsmoke blowing in the air.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/11/2024 03:55

Oh my god, Uman! What was the problem?
The cost must be £££!!! 😲

Math, sounds lovely. 🎃

Deathraystare · 02/11/2024 07:55

@Umanresources

Good lord the plumber must have been working hard!

@mathanxiety
That is a wonderful description!

DandyDandylion · 02/11/2024 08:19

Time for the before and after photos Uman?

Although we didn’t get trick or treaters there have been lovely posts on local social media. Sounds like they were all very well behaved, even the groups of teens were properly dressed up and said thank you for their treats. I’ve told mine they are too old for it because I remember stories of school mates throwing eggs and flour around.

Umanresources · 02/11/2024 11:46

Here are my fabulous pics. Obviously before

And after. We are going to get a new door though. We have the original doors upstairs, from the 1930s! At least there are some things in the house older than me!

I love my LED mirror. The spotlights in the ceiling are very bright, like operating theatre bright! The mirror is much softer and ideal for night time bathroom visits. A caress rather than a slap in the face at 4 in the morning!

So sorry about your Mum Iwandered

Lovely to see your boys enjoying themselves Bizzey

Glad you had a good time at your friends Death

We went out last night to fireworks at a castle which is also a private school. They were amazing with a band and music and had a cider, hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, got given popcorn, sweets and a cake and had a burger with bacon, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. DH had tacos and mulled wine, the hot chocolate, cake. Gave DS the cake for me and some of the sweets. Also given a gift bag each. We had the VIP tickets so was all included, largely got them incase I needed a seat but actually was worth it anyway as we would have bought food and drink anyway. And there weren't seats by time got there but as recovery going really well didn't need them, was half an hours walk each way through the grounds but needed that with all the calories. 😂Pics attached. And picture of how Floof looks at us to try and persuade us not to leave him when we go out.

DH accidentally stood on Floof's tail middle of last week - he carried on being his usual cheerful self but had a bent tail so got DH to take him to the vets and vet said not broken but inflamed and gave him meds and now Floof's tail is back to normal again.

DD is coming back home in a couple of weeks for the weekend which am really looking forward to. Another check up for me on Tuesday but all is fine and no bandages now.

Trying to eat healthily today to counteract yesterday evening and had a homemade cabbage, potato and carrot soup with bread and butter for lunch which was lovely. I got another veg box last weekend from our local farm though it had rather random things in it, you find out contents after you order but like to support them and its always great quality.

Penguinsa, castle looks gorgeous lit up; you really captured a great fireworks pic; and so glad Floof is better. ☺️ Sounds like a great evening!

Havoc had fun sorting through Halloween candy. I purged a bit to garbage, the sticky and chewy type of candy, and added chocolates from our left-overs (we have lots!). Baby is almost fully walking at 10 months now! I saw a Christmas commercial on tv yesterday. 😲
Now I thinking about egg nog and sticky toffee pudding. 🤷‍♀️

MissConductUS · 03/11/2024 10:20

Uman, your bathroom looks fabulous. Remodeling is such a hassle and expense, but it's great when you're done.

Penguinsa, what a lovely night out you had. I love the look on Floof in that picture.

We've set the clocks back an hour last night, and I'm up early anyway. We went to the showroom yesterday and picked out cabinets. We're going to go with these, in nickel:

https://www.fabuwood.com/cabinets/allure/galaxy/nickel/

They're very good quality, with birch fronts and adjustable shelves, much nicer than the ones we have now. We still have to pick out the metal handles. I think we might do brass.

While we were there, we looked at countertops and new windows. We need to replace some windows and sliding glass doors that open onto the deck, but that can wait until next spring.

On our way home, we stopped at a place that only sells countertops and is the one our contractor recommended. We're going to go with engineered quartz countertops. Unlike granite, they're non-porous so they won't stain or need to be sealed. After looking at samples, the bloke took us out into their storage yard to show us the quartz slabs he had in stock, and we loved this one. It's grayish white, with subtle gold veins. So we'll have oak laminate floors, nickel cabinets, and counters in this quartz. I think it's all going to look lovely.

The cabinet people and the countertop shop are working on price quotes for us. Let's hope it's not all too outrageous.

I did some chores this morning...then made a cuppa and put TV on to catch up with the news ...as ...I really don't know how ....but some political news seemed to have bypassed me yesterday🤦!

Any how..... Paddington 2 was on ...so I watched that instead 😂😂😂!!

Missing out in so many of these types of films now , ...though I have caught quite a few accidently in a Sunday afternoon !!

My best " accident " was Maleficent ! ....loved that one ! 😂😂

bizzey · 03/11/2024 18:12

MissC ....not gonna lie ....I can't make head nor tail out of that photo ! 🧐

It’s a slab of countertop material lying on its side. After they measure for the exact sizes we need, they’ll cut it into our countertops.

Kitchen sounds great Miss, brass would contrast well with that colour.
I bought some mini gins in a gift pack for my SIL's birthday, which is this week. They were in the Christmas gift section, but the box isn't Christmassey, so I hope she doesn't mind them.
Penguinisa your bonfire celebrations sound out of this world (especially the food)

bizzey · 04/11/2024 01:01

I see it now ! 😁

Deathraystare · 04/11/2024 07:47

@Umanresources
It may be the angle of the picture but I thought the loo was very close to the towel rail. I am sure it is not though! Looks very nice!!

DandyDandylion · 04/11/2024 08:02

I love your Bathroom Uman what did you go for on the walls? I really need to start planning ours and I hate the small tiles we have as it is so much white grout to keep clean.

I also like the sound of that kitchen MissC the worktops in particular do look very nice. I am always slightly nervous of the paler coloured natural stones as a friend managed to stain hers with Chinese sweet sauce. As long as it isn’t porous as you say it should be fine.

Poor old Floof, I have to admit doing something similar a couple of years ago Penguinsa. I shut the dishwasher without realising dcat was under it with his tail in the plinth gap. He lost a tiny but at the end of his tail but seems to have forgiven me.

I have to see the new Paddington movie at some point, if the dc decide they are too old I may go alone Bizzey.

Please don’t get me started on the cat thread, so much hatred for our feline overlords. We have had loose dogs locally and everyone is falling over themselves to catch them or find the owner so they can be returned.

No. You are right. It's quite close. A lot closer than the other one. I did encounter a huge snag. There are no grab rails in the shower, so I got in touch with the company. They sent them over but I didn't like them so I ordered new ones which I love. It was a bit of a struggle to walk to the end of the shower, but it was so worth it, thank goodness!

Deathraystare · 04/11/2024 13:15

I only ask because when our radiator was on and I was on the loo I would forget and my knee kept toughing the radiator!

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 04/11/2024 20:23

So jealous of all the home renovations. The bathroom looks lovely Uman and Miss the counter top (what I would call a work top) looks very nice and perfect for the type of room you’re after from your description.
We have plans to do our kitchen but it’s been very much in the planning stage for a good few years now 🙄.

Nothing much to report here, DD back to school today and in my excitement at her being back in a routine I probably overdid the shops and my MS afflicted legs are not thanking me for it. I’m sitting quietly contemplating whether or not to eat one of the treats I bought on my shopping spree this morning…an M&S chocolate eclair.

bizzey · 04/11/2024 22:02

I washed the strawberries that came in the shop order...

I tried a strawberry....

There are now no strawberries left any more .
🤦😁😂😂!!😋😋...

Now to wash the box of blueberries 🫐 🫐 😀!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2024 22:11

Bizzey, just bought another container of $13.99 strawberries at Costco. We've almost gone through 2 since Friday night.

Crikey. The two pound containers are $5.99 at my wholesale club. And they’re nice strawberries,

Havoc ...i did a quick conversion ...
£7.25 !! ( Sterling!)

My sneaky tub was £ 2 50 ! (Sterling ) .

Flippin love strawberries !

Childhood memories maybe ..

Mam use to buy them as a special treat ...wash them and sprinkle sugar over them ;.

Maybe in the '70's strawberries weren't as sweet as they are now ..

Or was she just setting us up for diabetes 😀😀😂😂!
