Need to get one of those watches to see how many steps/Kms I am doing ...
Which will be difficult...as I still work in miles 😁🤣!

Think I did just over 2 miles .

bizzey · 10/10/2024 17:02

But that is me working at 20 mins per mile .

bizzey · 10/10/2024 17:04

Though to be fair ...I suppose my return mile would have been slower 🤔.

So maybe 1.8 miles !!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/10/2024 17:46

Bizzey, you can easily add a free pedometer app to your phone. My iphone's built-in health app has one, too. Check your phone?

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/10/2024 19:29

Finally have a car it's our second car so not that new but it's lovely. Work is hard going everything 100 miles an hour.

IWanderedLonely · 10/10/2024 20:18

Death call in any time for quiche Smile I make it a couple of times a month; I like vegetarian food and my (very) carnivore DH loves it. I put a bit of Stilton in this one. Made a shepherd's pie tonight and have done a small one for DM for tomorrow (fingers crossed she'll eat some).

Penguinisa I'm sorry, my earlier question about your DD being at uni was tactless, I should have thought about your DS and the difference in their two lives. Being insensitive is the last thing I'd want to do, but my brain can be useless sometimes. Flowers
Bizzey I also work in miles, pints and lbs & ounces.

HelenaJustina · 10/10/2024 20:36

Hey all, quick catch up.
Good car news Lemons and super healing Penguinsa
I went to Boston, Cape Cod and Maine for my autumn honeymoon Miss can’t wait to see your fall colour photos for a reminder of a special time (20 years this year!)

DH is away this week so am flying solo. So far so good. We (4 DC and I) need to leave the house about 40 minutes earlier than usual in the morning so it’s tiring everyone out.

MissConductUS · 10/10/2024 21:17

havoc, my mom used to make coffee cake just like that, with the swirled cinnamon layer and icing made from confectioner's sugar. I may have to look for some at the bakery.

lemons, I'm glad to hear you have transportation again. It's a hassle when one of ours is in the shop for the day

helena, your honeymoon sounds lovely! We spent our on Block Island, Rhode Island and went in July. Autumn is gorgeous in New England.

I heard from DD that she has been notified that she is a "preferred candidate" for the Federal civil service job she's apply for, which means that she's made it to the next round of interview. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her. Our SiL is in the military, and military spouses get some level of hiring preference for civil service jobs, so that should help. SiL is getting a master's degree at the moment, which the military is paying for.

It's fine Iwandered you are a lovely person and I know it was well meant. You are one of the kindest people in the world.

Quite tired at the moment so will catch up later.

Umanresources · 10/10/2024 23:01

Hoping everyone is staying safe in the US. We’ve been following the stories on the news and it looks horrendous.
I had a surprise FaceTime with my grandsons last night. They usually go to rugby practice and it’s a rush to eat, shower and bed. They decided they could eat and chat with me at the same time. They were telling me what they wanted us to do when they get here next week. We are going to be busy on the Wii, playing archery, dog frisbee and Mario Cart. I’m so looking forward to it, especially as I’ve realised they are here for an extra day.
My goodness. We’ve got some lovely pictures of the Northern lights tonight. It’s the first time we’ve ever seen them.
I also think we’ve made up our mind about the bathroom. We are going for the last quote we had, walk in shower with fold down seat, new loo and basin, new flooring, wall panels and new ceiling with spotlights. Oh and an extractor fan, led mirror and heated toilet rail. The cost is £4600, which is incredible. They are a local firm and we have seen photos of before and after renovations and read great reviews, both on their site and other sites.

Lots of activity here!
Miss, yes, brings back childhood memories. As does, "Matrimonial slice" (aka date squares). Fingers crossed for your dd.🤞
Penguinsa, hope you're ok? 🫶
Uman, I'm excited for you re the bathroom and esp for the aurora! I looked for them a few nights ago as there was quite a big solar flare, but no luck. You should post your pics on the aurora board if there's one still. ☺️
Helena, on your own with 4? 😳 Tips, please!
Iwandered quiche* sounds delicious *with stilton! 😋
Lemons, glad you got car sorted. I'd die without one here. 🙀

Med appt earlier this morning then took Havoc to W Van for a change. It was gorgeous.

Can't believe ds and I missed the northern lights 😯.

He is normally into these things and has me hanging out the window to look at all angles 🤣.

He got distracted by football and I got distracted by washing my hair in some ridiculously priced shampoo and conditioner... which I have to say...was well worth the ridiculous price !! 🤣.

Very similar!

Not sleeping yet, and remembered to look for the aurora.

That's a great price for all that work, Uman. We had our bathroom re-done recently and it cost <cough> considerably more, but it did involve stripping everything totally back to brick and sorting out lots of issues, plus other work to another room, so probably fair enough.

I saw the aurora too! Also the first time I’ve ever managed to capture any photos. Though neighbours somehow got far more intense and dramatic reds/purples than I did. Still, I’m pleased to have seen it at last.

Edit to say - also great pictures, havoc 😊

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2024 09:23

Hilda, I'm still not sure how to adjust my phone and played around with the settings, but those who are more adept get great shots. I feel so lucky to have seen it twice this year all the way south here in Vancouver with so much light pollution. What a treat! So glad you saw it, too!

Penguinsa · 11/10/2024 18:53

Thanks Sprouts

Wonderful pictures of the northern lights Havoc and Uman DD sent us 3 from Oxford including this one. Glad you saw them too Hilda Hope you see them next time Bizzey

Thanks Death

Great news about your Dd MissC

Good to hear from you again Helena

Recovery going really well but so bored and hoping it's not 12 weeks like this but they are very strict at the hospital, most places seem a lot more relaxed than they are from 6 weeks which is already another 2 and a bit weeks. Finding it a bit depressing now DD is away so think more about DS especially when nothing to do. But it's not for that long in scheme of things.

Floof is also adjusting and becoming very cuddly with DH, he also decided last night DH had to play with him. DH said no so Floof came to see me making a sad noise like he is being mean with me can you help then poking my feet then nearly landing on my head 8kgs of fluff then finally the look of death his giant eyes right next to mine at which point I said for DH to assist. 🙀 Floof is coming on the bed a lot for DH cuddles.

Cleaners come tomorrow for first time in couple of months and will be good to have the house looking better. I am banned from cleaning and neither of the boys notice and Floof fluffs at a crazy rate. Started clearing for them as DD had left empty boxes around and things moved. Hopefully all back in it's place and clean by tomorrow lunch. Had chicken flooring arrive and may do that this weekend, well DH might as well as put new tyre on. Hoping can go out on Sunday. Had sausage sandwiches for lunch and about to have apple crumble and custard.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/10/2024 19:29

Lovely pic Penguinsa. Lots of red seen in the UK from what I can tell. Lots of green where I am. Getting bored is a good sign of recovery. 👍

sproutsandparsnips · 11/10/2024 21:15

@Penguinsa @Mumtobabyhavoc @Umanresources pics are amazing. Everyone round here was posting lovely pictures. DS and I went out but I couldn't see anything at all. @bizzey I also nearly forgot, in fact I didn't realise until late.
@Deathraystare I do love buttercream of any sort!

I have been off today but attended an online conference and did household chores in between the sessions.
I have to travel up the valley to take DS to a rugby game tomorrow. He plays for the youth team and I usually cook for the senior team but there is no one to take/ watch DS otherwise so DH will have to take my place cooking as he needs to be at the senior game as chairman. Also my parents are arriving at some point. It will be a bit hectic I think......

mathanxiety · 12/10/2024 02:05

Gorgeous Aurora photos!
I missed it all because I've been struck by a horrible virus that laid me low. I tested for covid but was negative. I missed work on Friday, and hoping I'll recover over the weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2024 06:36

Math, sorry to hear you've caught a bug and hoping you recover quickly.
Busy weekend for you, Sprouts.

Just looked for the aurora again. No luck. Supposed to be visible again tonight, but much weaker. Will look again later if still awake.
Took dc to Pumpkins After Dark last night and on Halloween Train today. Had them in their Halloween costumes for both. Took lots of pics and video.
It's the Thanksgiving long weekend here with the holiday on Monday. I am going to make a pumpkin pie and maybe a 2nd dessert...I really would like pecan pie, but the one and only time I made it, it was a dismal failure. That was due to the recipe mind you, but the trauma is deep. 😂
I don't plan on cooking a turkey, but I'm heading to Costco tomorrow morning, so I could change my mind.
I was thinking along the lines of roasted duck, potatoes, carrots, Greek salad, garlic bread and corn on the cob. Then pumpkin pie with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Maybe I'll make my kitchen sink brownies as well!!! 💡🤔

Deathraystare · 12/10/2024 06:57

Oh dear, I knew nothing about the Northern lights. Oh well. Lovely pics everyone!

@Penguinsa Keep your son away from Galaxy drinking chocolate. I bought some as I love the chocolate but however much you put in a mug it is tasteless and for some reason makes my poo very pooey indeed. I will have to chuck it.

Deathraystare · 12/10/2024 07:18

And I'm back! Not been away, just on another computer! Came into work early. The porter was still at my desk so I used the computer behind me but now my shift has begun. It is sooooo quiet here. Staff don't normally arrive/leave until 7am but hardly anyone has gone past. I am hoping it remains quiet and there are no problems today! I don't mean the staff!

Had a yogurt for breakfast. The only flavoured one the shop had was strawberry. Not a great fan of strawberry flavoured things but this one had great lumps of the fruit in it.

@@mathanxiety ooh nasty virus. Hope you are better soon.

@Penguinsa Not sure if you should be doing chicken flooring at the moment as you have to take things easy? It is good you have a cleaner in - what with Floof's er floof and all. You mentioning Floof's eyes, I noticed some of those maine coons have quite evil looking faces (in a good way!) though Floof looks cute.

I walked past some sort of office space and noticed a receptionist/security bod with their head down catching some zzzzzz!

@MissConductUS

Wow good luck to your DD and indeed SIL.

Penguinsa · 12/10/2024 07:40

Thanks Death This is Floofs big eyed give me it now look though he looks half scary eyes, half stupid and he is still meaning to be gentle as if you look a bit nervous at having his eyes 1cm from your eyes he puts his head down and gets smaller. Though with DH he will whack him if he ignores this stage. He's much more gentle with me. I would just get the big fluffy paw after this.

With the chicken flooring I mean I am going to tell DH to do it, I am not allowed still. All I could do was order it. It's 12 weeks plus on anything like that due to weight. I am at 3.5 weeks now. I hope they will let me do a bit more at 6 weeks but they are currently at nothing but walking until 12 weeks but most places seem to start lifting some restrictions at 6 weeks, a lot seem to allow gentle swimming at 6 weeks but mine seem very firm on no and most they will go to is 10 if things continue perfectly. It's pretty grim walking in this weather though, would much rather be in a nice indoor pool. Though first two operations they said no to 6 weeks, then suddenly allowed at 3 weeks and no issues but much smaller operations. I think I see surgeon on 21st October so can see with her but she was if I am feeling confident I allow 10. Grmpf.

Hope you feel better soon Math

Have lovely weekends Havoc and Sprouts both sound great.
