On day 5 or 6 of DS having a bug can't seem to keep food down and is loosing weight.

Am going to grit my teeth and ring the doctor tomorrow if he is no better.

YellowphantGrey · 15/09/2024 19:21

I've sewn press studs on my quilt and quilt cover so I can fasten the quilt to the cover and it won't slip down and stay in place inside the cover. Makes it easier to put back onto the quilt too.

I've rearranged my books that are to be kept, the books that are to be read and give away and the books that need to go, which I will drop off at the free community library tomorrow

Not much else done today

MissConductUS · 15/09/2024 19:48

Lemons, that is concerning, and he should see the doctor. Is he keeping down fluids?

Welcome, @YellowphantGrey, and thanks for sharing your sewing and book sorting news. My local library will only accept hardcover books currently in great demand, so some of mine may have to go into the paper recycling.

DS is starting to prepare the roast chicken by stuffing it with herbs and rubbing it with olive oil. He also plans on making bread stuffing to go with it from some day-old French bread we have in the fridge.

I haven't heard from DD about having a FaceTime call tonight, which means she's probably working.

Miss C he is keeping fluids down but isn't wanting to eat much at all maybe a piece of toast and an orange all day . Today though he has eaten a little more. He is tired because of this. I will ring doctor tomorrow and hope to be seen.

it's been a long 5/6 days.

sproutsandparsnips · 15/09/2024 22:52

Gosh @Lemonsandlemonade hope DS feels better soon. Hopefully he is gradually improving.
@bizzey that looks delicious, not sure I could resist!
@ShoesOnFirstThenCar we have the same insect zapper!
Happy very belated birthday @HelenaJustina!
@Penguinsa DH sounds sweet! Hope DD is looking forward to her new adventure.
@mathanxiety I always find it satisfying when a kitchen appliance is pulled out to clean behind and retrieve errant items!
@Deathraystare sorry about porter.
DS2 had first game of season today as last week off due to weather. Team were amazing, so much improvement and against a team who hammered us last season and have improved again. Was a very competitive match and both teams played well with a joint photo afterwards. DS very happy with scrum performance.

Penguinsa · 15/09/2024 23:18

That sounds a lovely walk Dandy

Sounds a lovely meal MissC The boiler is fairly new and top of the range but DS damaged it and nobody knows what he did. He got annoyed about 2am one night during DDs exams. Never done anything like that here before though taking fire alarms and security systems apart was his speciality in hospital, he did about 20 of those, each time they would move him rooms to repair one and he would do another one, was trying to get thrown out. He does at least seem to know how to do it safely they said. The new boiler here has already paid for itself from original cost but the repairs are at over £1,600 and counting and nothing works. Thankfully we now have benefits through for him which cover the cost but I hope it gets resolved soon as it will get cold again soon. He's normally really calm here. Today he's just had a bath with rose bath foam and lots of shampoo and conditioner, done some cooking, iPad and TV and that's pretty typical now. I think a new boiler would have been better but they expected it to be easier to repair.

Sorry about your DS Lemons would definitely get a doctor and call 111 or Welsh equivalent if that exists there.

I am supposed to be having pre surgery marking tomorrow and surgery on Tuesday but when DH and I were gardening and had left phone inside tonight there were 3 missed calls, no caller id which is generally the hospital which may mean it's being cancelled a third time. Argh. Odd time to call though Sun at 5pm.

Glad things went well Sprouts Yes DD is very excited, she's off to see her boyfriend at his university this week too for 3 nights.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/09/2024 00:21

Just a quick post - apologies.
Penguinsa, two more sleeps for you; am sending you loads of positive energy and good wishes.
Lemons, def concerning re your ds. Agree with others, get to doctor.

Spent all day in emerg with my mum and dc in tow. Exhausted. Mum getting surgery on Tues. Sent home now for. Lay terms: Blocked connection liver to bowel.

Penguinsa · 16/09/2024 00:46

So sorry about your Mum Havoc hope treatment is quick and goes as well as it can.

MissConductUS · 16/09/2024 00:54

Havoc, I hope you mom is okay, and good that they got her in for Tuesday. Hopefully they did the blood work today to make sure she's okay for GA.

Penguinsa, I wonder what your DS could have done to the boiler that wouldn't be fairly obvious to a qualified boiler technician.

Dinner was very nice. Here are before and after pictures of the chicken. DS baked the stuffing in that cast iron skillet. The chicken looks a little flat because it's had the backbone removed in a process called spatchcocking. This was done at the supermarket, not by us. It came out very juicy.

Ohhh I know spatchcocking !!!
Get me ! 🤣🤣..

We have a wonderful butchers at the bottom of our road that is a South African butcher.

It just didn't work for me ...but yes meat was lovely....but then so is everything from that butcher's 🤣.

The boys always knew if I had made a spag bol/shepherds pie /chilli ....with xxx 's mince ....or ..**...(add supermarket of your choice 🤣)

I use to put it down to my amazing culinary skills, that that was why the dinner was so nice !

Nahhhh...it was because the products came from the lovely butcher 🤣

Typo ...as I thought I had put wrong country ..It was deffo SA !

bizzey · 16/09/2024 01:18

Spatchcocking never looks very appertising sometimes 🤔..
But that could be my presentation.

MissC .... ...that sounds rude of me ..sorry ...

Your ds has done an amazing job ...hope you enjoyed it .

Havoc ...what a nightmare...sending strength and best wishes to your and your lovely mum .

Penguinisa ...I have run out of fingers to cross for you for Tuesday 🤞🤞🤞....

Lemons ...horrible when they are ill ...hope things get sorted at the doctor's .

Penguinsa · 16/09/2024 01:40

Impressive cooking by your DS MissC

They said they have never seen a boiler like it and he had locked the door and started it at 2am. It was too hot but there's an on off switch on it. Why he didn't just use that 🤔 Some things we have no idea why he does like he's just moved all the living room furniture around, which is fine but why. Though most days he does just TV, iPad, cooking, washing up, sometimes a bath, sometimes the garden.

bizzey · 16/09/2024 01:44

Penguinisa ....have you had any luck in getting to the next stage of support for your ds ?

bizzey · 16/09/2024 01:46

Missc....I have just noticed the other photo of the pan ...
That looks yummy..
I think my mistake was trying to do it as a Sunday roast !

On day 5 or 6 of DS having a bug can't seem to keep food down and is loosing weight.

Am going to grit my teeth and ring the doctor tomorrow if he is no better.

When it’s a less unreasonable hour, try some of those mashed fruit pouches for babies, work a treat for getting some cals in kids with gastro probs. Also grab some electrolyte tabs from the chemist as if he’s vomiting still he’ll be losing hydration which could make him go downhill quickly.

try bland- plain rice, plain pasta.

hopefully he feels better soon- absolutely go to the doctor asap.

I believe my two are coming down with something similar, and I’m feeling queasy now. Guess it’s duvet day tmrw in the hardline house!

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/09/2024 06:47

DS I think has turned a corner re bug in terms of not needing the toilet or feeing ill in the night. He is though starting with a cold and his sneezing and snotty! I will ring doctors as soon as they open.

Miss C food looks lovely! Am in need of real food here. With DS poorly has been far to snack central.

Gosh Penguina hope the calls from the hospital were mundane how are you are you well no temperature type ones and not a call to cancel.

HildaTablet · 16/09/2024 09:10

Adding my positive thoughts for @Penguinsa and @Mumtobabyhavoc - hoping all is well for both.

MissConductUS · 16/09/2024 14:32

Welcome, @Drawahardline, and thanks for sharing your very sound advice for caring for poorly children. I hope yours don't have anything serious.

I went to church yesterday and our rector was out with covid, so we had a morning prayer service instead.

bizzey, that didn't sound rude. I do think that chickens that have been prepared this way look a little odd, but they cook beautifully. The skillet baked stuffing was delicious. DH and DS also made gravy in the white roasting pan the chicken was baked in.

penguinsa, it sounds like your DS has cast a spell or a hex on the boiler. 😀

We did have a nice FaceTime call with DD and her husband last night. DS has an appointment to get his picture and fingerprints taken for his government job. He also has some job interviews this week. He's leaning toward the government job even if he gets other offers.

Sending best wishes and prayers to @Mumtobabyhavoc and her mum and @Penguinsa.
Chicken looks good @MissConductUS - think the shorter cooking time makes it juicier.
Hope DS has turned the corner @Lemonsandlemonade.

Umanresources · 16/09/2024 16:57

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope your mum is on the way to recovery very soon. Thoughts and prayers for you all. It’s very hard when you also have a young family as well.

@Penguinsa hope you get things sorted with your boiler. Wonder if you got the “all systems go” phone call from the hospital and you will be on your way tomorrow.

Had a lovely weekend, we went to RHS Bridgewater on Friday, with my DSiL and managed to see Andrew Harwood who was a finalist on Bake-off the Professionals, giving a demonstration of his patisserie skills, using a lot of ingredients grown at Bridgewater. We also bought some gorgeous bread, eggs and cheese as well.

Lovely breakfast the next morning.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 31: Calmly through the day
Penguinsa · 16/09/2024 17:45

That sounds a lovely weekend Uman Also had boiled eggs and dunkers this morning though my bread wasn't as nice as your one.

Thanks Hilda and Lemons. Hope your DS is improving Lemons. Hope all is going as well as it can with your Mum Havoc.

Good your DS is in demand MissC Here you can apply for internal vacancies elsewhere in the civil service if you get into one department.

So mystery phone calls were not from the hospital. Not sure who they were from. Went in today and marking done fine. Though they also wanted blood type repeating and antibody screen again, last done mid July, and there was a massive back log, results need to be in today and so far not through. Have to go in for operation 7am tomorrow. Hoping bloods won't be an issue. There seemed some confusion if I really needed them again.

bizzey · 16/09/2024 18:02

@Umanresources ..ohh that looks lovely 🤩.

I am not a breakfast person but would eat that.

Must remember to ask for boiled egg and toast in future!

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/09/2024 18:04

Sorry Havoc missed post about your DM. Sending good vibes.

🤞 it goes ahead for you now Penguina.

DS appears to be better more energy this afternoon. He played for a bit but went to bed at 5:40. Only thing of note from nurse is oxygen saturation level was at 96.

bizzey · 16/09/2024 18:07

Mam wants to start selling off some of her collectables (?) /antiques (?) ...

Worth a bit ....but not antiques roadshow worthy ! 😁.

She had this idea that I would take her ...over 300 pieces ( plus !) of items ...and look after them lovingly ...

We had a chat ! 😁😁.

Sooooo.....if anyone has gone down an antique route of selling things ...I would be grateful for your input !

bizzey · 16/09/2024 18:08

Is it all going ahead @Penguinsa ?
