Crocs… are they worth the hype?!

noidea098 · 04/08/2024 09:34

It’s my birthday soon and I am thinking of asking for some classic crocs! I’ve heard good things about them - I know they used to be considered very ugly but they seem hugely popular now! I could do with some comfy slip on shoes. Are they comfy? Worth the hype?

I absolutely love mine. They are so comfortable for walking in and really handy for the beach, as well as around the house.

I have always ended up with blisters with any type of shoes or trainers (unless wearing expensive walking socks) but with Crocs and no socks I can walk miles with no problem (6 miles last weekend on a sightseeing trip to London and 3.5 miles across country fields and along a canal towpath yesterday). Yes they are ugly but I'm past caring. The only ones I regretted buying were 'fur' lined and I concluded they were the cause of static shocks if I wore them on our laminate floor.

Oldfatandfrumpy · 04/08/2024 10:51

I find them deeply uncomfortable (and exceptionally ugly) so it's a no from me! I also have the same issue with Birkenstocks too though

No need for actual Crocs, the fakes are just as good.
I have 2 pairs, one by the front door and one by the back - perfect for going into the garden or going out to the bins. I also take them on holiday for wearing on the beach or by the pool. I sometimes wear them if I’m dropping the kids off somewhere. I wouldn’t wear them out and about though, because they’re not comfortable for distance walking.
My Mum has fleece-lined Crocs which she loves more than life itself!!

Angrymum22 · 04/08/2024 10:59

Probably the most useful shoes I’ve ever bought. Great for gardening, on the beach and as slippers. Mine are 18yrs old and still going strong. I wouldn’t wear them to go out in, they are defo not a fashion item, but I wear a clinical pair for work ( HCP), they have a special sole to stop static, and when I was suffering from plantar fasciitis last year work was the only place I was pain free.
My DS19 has a pair and a pair of sliders. He has huge feet and insisted on bright blue crocs. He is very sporty so they are ideal post sports to let his feet breath. He is prone to foot rot as a result of sport so likes to let them breath.

I've hated them for years, refused to buy them for my kids and my mum ended up getting them a pair much to my disgust. Then one day I needed to go out the front in a hurry and I chucked my son's crocs on. Then I started putting them on for the bins/garden. I've now relented and bought myself a pair and wear them everywhere 🤣 so comfy! My feet have never been in such good condition! I've just ordered myself a pair for work with the holes covered (I'm a nurse) 🤦

yumyum33 · 04/08/2024 13:44

This thread is tempting me to get some. I've scorned and mocked them so me even considering a purchase is a bit of a shock.

theteddybear · 04/08/2024 17:12

I buy my kids 2 pairs a year. Furry ones for winter and normal ones for summer. I personally don't wear them as I don't think they look nice in adult size but I've heard they are super comfy!

Perfect meme for this thread.

I love my crocs but if I don’t wear socks with them they make my feet sweat. I have lime green ones currently.

Crunchymum · 04/08/2024 17:27

I am in acceptance stage 😌

I have 5 pairs (2 clogs and 3 sandals) but adding all the kids ones as well (combination of proper Crocs / Croc sandals and fake crocs) we have about 15 pairs in the house.

I actually get lots of compliments on my sandals - have them in 3 colours.

Crunchymum · 04/08/2024 17:29

Pic of aforementioned sandals.

Promise I don't work for them 😂

I’ve gone from ‘I wouldn’t be seen dead in them’ to now having several pairs in different colours.

Franticbutterfly · 04/08/2024 17:35

So very ugly. I wouldn't even let the DC wear them when they were little.

MWNA · 04/08/2024 18:55

We all wear crocs every day in this house.
These are my work (blue) and everyday (red) Crocs. I also have plain blue ones as well as brown and white and pink ones.
I love them. I love how easy they are to wash and to kick off and put on and how the plastic goes all soft and rubbery and so much more comfortable after wearing them for a while (every day in my case).

I had some in the mid 00 when they first came out and celebrities started wearing them.

i wore them for a while, then they went really unfashionable and people were always saying they wouldn’t be seen dead in them.

now I’ve noticed they have made a comeback and I’m seeing more and more people in them.

i haven’t purchased anymore, but I have purchased some UGG Goldenstar clogs which I think are a nicer version of crocs

Yup.

You've never known proper comfort till you've worn fresh, fluffy, fleece lined crocs.

Nat6999 · 04/08/2024 19:32

I've got the pink fluffy Croc slippers & a pair of gold ones that must be at least 15 years old & still look like new.

InfoSecInTheCity · 04/08/2024 19:37

I have a lined pair that I wore al winter, ugly as sun but sublimely comfortable and I just refuse to have painful feet.

For summer I have a pair of the sandals and I think they look as good as any other sandals while still being comfortable.

DurhamDurham · 04/08/2024 19:40

Had mine 4 years and still in excellent condition.. Cheaper ones get worn underneath and aren't as safe on for example wet floors

Had my fake ones the same amount of time, they haven't worn out and are safe on wet floors. They cost me £5.

johann12 · 04/08/2024 19:42

I might try some. I love my sandals from White Stuff- they're the comfiest shoes I've had, but they're wearing out badly after 3 or 4 years

LaWench · 04/08/2024 19:43

I have crocs flip flops and they are the comfiest I've ever worn. Lasted years too. I've done miles round Disneyworld in them. I have some wedge style sandals too that are comfy. I wouldn't wear normal style crocs but DH loves his. I got them on a good deal on Black Friday for him.

leeverarch · 04/08/2024 19:46

I've tried them on, but they don't appear to be even remotely like the right shape to fit my feet. Is there some sort of trick I'm missing, or what?

endofthelinefinally · 04/08/2024 19:48

I have rheumatoid arthritis and sometimes my feet are so painful I can hardly walk. I have several pairs of croc flip flops, they last for years and they are the most comfortable footwear I have. They are light weight, soft, springy padded soles, easy to slip on and off, have just the right amount of arch support and they are washable. Worth every penny IMO.

YellowphantGrey · 04/08/2024 19:54

I love my crocs. I wear them outside and with socks if it's cooler.

I also love my birkenstocks and wear the Airzonas and the Bostons. I also wear socks with my Boston during the cooler months.
