Crocs… are they worth the hype?!

It’s my birthday soon and I am thinking of asking for some classic crocs! I’ve heard good things about them - I know they used to be considered very ugly but they seem hugely popular now! I could do with some comfy slip on shoes. Are they comfy? Worth the hype?

No, they're not suitable for wearing with socks.

Tell that to my 15 year old and her friends.

Misthios · 04/08/2024 10:01

Love them, have had crocs since they came out the first time at least 12 years ago. Don't care what they look like, they are comfy and easy to slip on and off, and even better can be washed in the washing machine.

Misthios · 04/08/2024 10:02

And my teenager and her friends ALL wear socks with their Crocs.

They are ugly and I despise them but they are extremely comfy and I own a pair for the garden/beach Grin

Orangeandgold · 04/08/2024 10:03

My daughter loves hers. She’s a gymnast too and finds them so comfortable. She is a teen - but I guess that highlights the cool factor.

I don’t own a pair, but the adults around me that do completely love their crocs.

HairyFeline · 04/08/2024 10:05

My first pair are still going strong 16 years later. Great for the garden and beach and very comfy!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/08/2024 10:07

They're incredibly comfortable, I wore them almost exclusively for about 3 years the first time around. No blisters, ever, as they barely touch your foot (other than the sole, obviously) but my feet are a size bigger ever since as they were able to spread out I guess.

I did have a pair of ballet slipper type crocs that were also comfy, but did rub sometimes.

Of course you can wear them with socks 🤨

They are the most ridiculously comfortable shoe and once you've got a pair you won't want to wear anything else. Real ones are superior to fake, they have a bobbled surface on the interior which feel amazing on the foot and they are hard-wearing and comfortable for gardening, wearing as slippers round the house or even <gasp> leaving the house and going about your daily life. I have fluffy lined ones for winter too and the comfort is unparalleled.

Mandoidi · 04/08/2024 10:10

I've got pink fake ones from poundland. I think they were £6.
My 3.5 year old has yellow patterened ones also from poundland.
We both love them and I said I would NEVER buy any.
They are so practical, easy to slip on/off, easy to clean, comfy and actually pretty safe. I was worried that running around in them would be dangerous but by lad has proved otherwise (not me, i don't really run ha ha).

doneandone · 04/08/2024 10:12

I had my first pair for my birthday last year, I love them. I only generally wear them in the house/garden/popping to the neighbours. I originally wanted them for the gardening (had the dark cherry red colour), but I'm finding they're encroaching in to other areas of my life, I've a feeling I'll be taking them to the beach when we go away later this his month Grin

TheKoalaWhoCould · 04/08/2024 10:13

They are hideous. Incredibly ugly. But also the most comfortable shoes ever.

Ygraine · 04/08/2024 10:13

If I wear my crocs without socks for 2 days in a row my heels get painfully dry and cracked. But they are very comfortable when I wear socks.

Hoppinggreen · 04/08/2024 10:14

WorriedMama12 · 04/08/2024 09:59

If you wear them out and about, do you wear them with socks?

No but the Teens do

Misthios · 04/08/2024 10:02

I suppose it's a bit like people of my Dad's generation wearing socks with their leather sandals 😆😆

Capricornandproud · 04/08/2024 10:16

Fabulous footwear - I dont own a traditional pair but have nearly every type of the other sandals! So comfy and I can walk miles in them

Bathymamouth · 04/08/2024 10:16

Theyvare handy for the garden. Inside I prefer foam sliders as slippers as they are like walking on a cloud.

Iheartmysmart · 04/08/2024 10:16

I bought a pair on the strict understanding that they were for camping only. But they’re really comfortable so get worn around my flat as slippers and I have to confess I’ve even worn them to work when it’s hot and I’ll be stood up all day. They are bloody ugly though.

Floralnomad · 04/08/2024 10:17

I have 2 old pairs from years back that I use for the garden and walking the dog in the summer but I’ve looked at new ones this year and either my feet have changed or the sizing has because they are either too small or too big .

charabang · 04/08/2024 10:17

Why do Crocs have holes in them?
To allow your dignity to seep out 😁
Honestly though, we have multiple pairs in a big basket by the back door to slip on for gardening, chores etc...Most comfortable shoes ever but fashionable they aint!

Cheesyicecream · 04/08/2024 10:18

i love them, I have several pairs, one of the fluffy lined ones for slippers, a pair without the holes for gardening and two pairs for just out and about (and yes I wear socks with them!)

EasilyDisturbed · 04/08/2024 10:20

They seem comfy at first amd practical for gardening etc but are a fast way to set off my plantar fasciitis, my podiatrist told me they were one of the worst types of shoe for it.

Isobel201 · 04/08/2024 10:21

I've worn them to the supermarket occaisonally, they're fine to wear in public lol! But yeah I live in them indoors.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 04/08/2024 10:30

Despite loathing the sight of them, I bought a fake pair about 14 years ago to slip on and sort out the chickens in the morning. But they were so comfy I couldn't take them off! Have got real ones since, but not the traditional style... slightly daintier ones!

Real Crocs are far superior to fakes, but even the fakes are comfy and practical. Currently wearing my IKEA "Crocs"

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 04/08/2024 10:37

Great for popping in the garden as can just run them under the tap when muddy. I also use them for late dog walking. Great for the beach too. I think they're ugly on adults so wouldn't wear them out & about generally but ok on kids. I only buy fake ones.

Cadela · 04/08/2024 10:39

If you have any foot problems they are fab for inside wear instead of slippers. I have to take mine with me to friend’s/family homes because I can’t walk barefoot anywhere anymore.

Get the sheepskin liners for winter!
