Miller and Carter Lunch….decisions decisions

Horsecalledrhubard · 21/07/2024 21:19

Going to Miller and Carter tomorrow with a pal for the fixed price lunch. Any recommendations?

I quite fancy the steak sandwich??? Anyone tried?

And dessert, well I’d have the profiteroles, but I hate that chocolate ice cream sauce and these days restaurants use that as the dipping sauce?
Or there’s the crème brûlée or apple pie.

Not been for lunch before and I hear mixed reviews.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

Over priced and always give me food poisoning.

I don’t know anyone that goes. They’re seen as pretty naff tbh! Trying to be posh but they’re not, just a bog standard chain restaurant. Prefer our local gastro pub for steak!

Food poisoning every time! Blooming heck.

I really hope I don’t get sick…I have some pocket money to spend on shorts and flip flops afterwards!

OP ignore the negative comments. I eat at M&C probably monthly and have done for about 6 years across probably 10 different restaurants. Rarely had a bad meal- possibly twice and both times they’ve replaced my meal and unexpectedly discounted the bill without any fuss!

Steaks are amazing! I love the 50 day aged ones. If you like crème brûlée, theirs is lovely!! You MUST have onion loaf. Baked cheddar mushrooms are delicious too!

(might have tempted me for dinner tomorrow night)

Can you even get food poisoning off steak? I eat it blue 😂

Treat yourself! We can be part of an inaugural Mumsnet Miller and Carter day 2024 and feedback before bed.

Thanks for the review. It’s nice to hear that some people like it.

God some people on here are such arseholes. OP is clearly looking forward to lunch with a friend. There was a similar thread on S&B, OP asking what to wear for a special meal at the Ivy. Cue loads of posters saying how shit it was and not special at all and just somewhere theyd drop in with the kids for tea if they cba cooking. Always someone wanting to piss on your chips.

OP M&C is nothing like an old fashioned beefeater pub. Yes it's a chain but the steaks are always good as is the service ime and £16.99 for a 2 course lunch is an absolute bargain. I'm really partial to the sides you get with the steak- the wedge salad with blue cheese and the onion loaf 😋 . Enjoy.

Haha I don’t need much persuading 🙈

Honestly it’s lovely. Enjoy yourselves! I would choose it over Wagamama every day.

I don’t think so, unless the kitchen aren’t maintaining personal hygiene 🤮

but Blue! I like mine medium rare, juicy, but blue is a little too rare for my liking.

Wait for it, but my husband has his steak … well done.
What an absolute waste.

Well at least you are going with your friend and not a heathen.

Delphiniumandlupins · 21/07/2024 22:49

Wagamama was the first restaurant I wasn't given my change (they just kept it as a tip)! Many years ago but I've never really forgiven them so I may try Miller & Carter this week as well.

Thank you. I’m really happy to hear all views though honestly. And it hasn’t really put me off. I’m looking forward to seeing my friend, we both have lots of news, and I know we’ll have a good laugh. If it’s at the expense of the food so be it, or we might get lucky and have a great meal too.

We’ll have to change it to the:

Inaugural Mumsnet x Miller and Carter and divorce husband for being a well done steak eating heathen day 2024.

Its a bit of a mouthful, but I think it could catch on.

Yet it always gives you food poisoning?
So you yourself have been, seemingly more than once, given that it always gives you food poisoning.
Yeah OK 🤣 🤣🤣

You know, it’s really not healthy to hold a grudge for that long.
🤣🤣🤣

No, I completely get you! I visited KFC before Covid and had their combo box meal thing and they forgot to put in my popcorn chicken! Instead I had two lots of mashed potatoes. Who wants double mashed potatoes?! So I haven’t been back since, they burnt that bridge.

I've eaten at M&C about 5 times now and never had a bad meal, their fillet steak is gorgeous, best I've had and I've had it in lot's of other restaurants as well as Longhorns and Outback in USA.

MrsBrightsidde · 21/07/2024 23:00

We went once and were very pleasantly surprised. We love steak and often eat at higher end steak restaurants but decided to pop into m&c after a drive. It might be because we had very low expectations when we went in, but it was actually quite decent.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh wow, now you’re setting the standards really high. Better than Longhorns and Outback! It’s the Longhorns run I like most, I do like a bit of seasoning. That’s really interesting, I’m looking forward to reporting back on this one! Thank you ☺️

We always have a good time in our local M and C.

My advice is to stick with something from the grill, so your idea of a steak is a good one.

I love their cocktails too!

Have a fab time.

Horsecalledrhubard · 21/07/2024 23:03

Well thank you all for your help, advice and criticisms! It’s been a fun chat and I’m really looking forward to lunch now. I think the thread has reminded me NOT to dwell too much on the food.

I’m off to bed, but I’ll be sure to report back tomorrow and let you know what I thought.

Thanks again!

Omg yes! Strawberry sling every time!

hollyblueivy · 21/07/2024 23:05

I think you can get their rump steak on the lunch menu and that is a good choice there too.

Agree with pp about mini coffee and desert - the latte with a banoffee pie is a great way to end the meal!

Enjoy Op and I hope your friend enjoys spending her voucher too.

Let us have your review once you've been!

I've never had wagamamas - what would be a standard meal choice and price out of interest?

Also get annoyed with take away if they done put the sauces in that come as part of the meal!

jackstini · 21/07/2024 23:05

I would far rather Miller & Carter and my own table than sit with a load of randoms for mediocre noodles at Wagamama

The ribeye is good. Never gone for fillet as it's more money for less flavour - why do people do that?!

Beef dripping gravy is lush - tbf pouring that over anything would make it lovely!

Well quickly because you asked and I like to chat … I like to order sides and DH and I tend to order about three sides each, in lieu of a main. Sides can be around £7 a plate if I average it. Last time I went, I think mains were about £15 ish Then dessert is about £7, and a salad around £11. Drinks around £4 for non alcoholic. I find Wagamama can sort of add up quickly and surprise you where price is concerned. Especially when you order multiple drinks.
