Miller and Carter Lunch….decisions decisions

Horsecalledrhubard · 21/07/2024 21:19

Going to Miller and Carter tomorrow with a pal for the fixed price lunch. Any recommendations?

I quite fancy the steak sandwich??? Anyone tried?

And dessert, well I’d have the profiteroles, but I hate that chocolate ice cream sauce and these days restaurants use that as the dipping sauce?
Or there’s the crème brûlée or apple pie.

Not been for lunch before and I hear mixed reviews.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

After this, I wish đŸ˜‚ But sadly no, friend is looking to get rid of a gift voucher. She’ll at least get her meal for free.

Sorry! I saw your update after I was faffing about with duplicate posts. đŸ˜…

Although as you rightly say, wine and good company will make up for anything!
Perhaps I’ve been disappointed because it’s been overhyped? My SIL loves it, but she only eats steak and chips every time they eat out.

I’m a huge steak fan, and I’m no fancy eater. Longhorns in the US does my all time favourite ribeye. I already know this isn’t going to be Longhorns by a long-shot. But I hope they can cook a decent medium rare fillet. I guess we’ll see!

The ribeyes are very lovely. We went a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday.

I really like Miller and Carter! I haven't had the lunch menu but normally have fillet, wedge salad and sautéed greens. Yummy! Oh and the dripping sauce.

ReluctantSwimMum · 21/07/2024 22:13

You can spend One for All cards in plenty of better chains - can you suggest you change venue?

As I said above, they do take their steak fairly seriously, it's at least 28 days aged iirc and sourced reasonably responsibly/certainly from UK. You'll have a great time, it doesn't always have to be Michelin deluxe ya know, its just a lunch! People on here are so funny about food and that's from someone who writes about food for a living!

Horsecalledrhubard · 21/07/2024 21:36

She’s said it’s a one for all card?

You can go to Wagamama then

How rude though! OP's dining partner has chosen this restaurant to spend their card in and invited OP, it would be mannerless to suggest changing venue.

LibertyDuck · 21/07/2024 22:17

What happened to turning up at the restaurant, sitting down to look at the menu, and THEN deciding what you fancy?

Yes, my friend has chosen it. She’s never had the lunch there either, but she hates Wagamama and thinks it’s too expensive. Fair enough. I am indeed the invited, so probably have to just make the best of it tomorrow. I think from what most people say, I get the fillet steak. I’ll let you know how it all goes.

Wagamamas is also hit or miss. I find with the chains there's variation in how good their chefs are and portions vary too.

One for all has lots of options though.

Lunch deals often are good value though at least but check you can use the voucher on set meals

Oh, I do this all the time. We’re off on holiday next week. I’ve chosen all of our dining reservations and been on YouTube to see what’s on offer and I’ve chosen my meals already! đŸ˜‚
It’s probably because I spend most of the year eating lettuce and chicken breast to prevent menopause weight. I’m starving đŸ¤£đŸ¤£đŸ¤£

Surely Miller and Carter is more expensive than Wagamama?

Plus I don't see the point of paying restaurant prices for steak as it can be cooked well at home in no time with no skill or effort.

At least Wagamama involves some chopping, unusual ingredients and wok temperatures unavailable in most domestic kitchens.

Ginkypig · 21/07/2024 22:26

Whatever else you order get the onion loaf.

imo it’s the best thing they sell. Yum yum

saveforthat · 21/07/2024 22:28

I am not a big steak lover but every so often I do fancy one and M&C do a fairly good one in my opinion. My number one reason to go there though is the camembert mash, without a doubt my favourite ever carb.

Aworldofmyown · 21/07/2024 22:28

I really like our local Miller & Carter, we often go for lunch and I like the steak sandwich. Is it the fillet tails and beef dripping one?

Sheelanogig · 21/07/2024 22:29

It will be fine.
I've been a few times and not had a horrible meal.
Enjoy lunch out with a friend.

My sort of person đŸ˜†

The steaks at M&C are better than other chain restaurants. Plus it you sign up now you get a free glass of fizz.

Just enjoy and let us know how it goes. And if it isn't good think of me tomorrow at work, in a job I don't like. Will taste all the better then.

The fixed price menu is two courses for £16.99 I believe, or around that. My friend has a £20 gift voucher she was gifted and wants to use and it was her idea.

I think for a steak there’s an up charge, which is fine and sides are a little extra, but all in all, the meal should come out around £40 before tip.

Wagamamas isn’t my friends cup of tea and when I normally eat there with DH, we can spend in excess of £80 or £90.

Friend bless, asked me along and is willing to share her birthday voucher with me, splitting the cost 50/50, but of course I won’t allow her to do that. It’s her treat after all.

Even though reviews of the food are still hit and miss, I am looking forward to it. It’s been ages since I went out to lunch.

We love Miller and Carter, it's quite often our birthday family meal choice. Always good food and service.

AutismHelp1980 · 21/07/2024 22:33

Over priced and always give me food poisoning.

I don’t know anyone that goes. They’re seen as pretty naff tbh! Trying to be posh but they’re not, just a bog standard chain restaurant. Prefer our local gastro pub for steak!
