Miller and Carter Lunch….decisions decisions

Going to Miller and Carter tomorrow with a pal for the fixed price lunch. Any recommendations?

I quite fancy the steak sandwich??? Anyone tried?

And dessert, well I’d have the profiteroles, but I hate that chocolate ice cream sauce and these days restaurants use that as the dipping sauce?
Or there’s the crème brûlée or apple pie.

Not been for lunch before and I hear mixed reviews.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

Over priced and always give me food poisoning.

I don’t know anyone that goes. They’re seen as pretty naff tbh! Trying to be posh but they’re not, just a bog standard chain restaurant. Prefer our local gastro pub for steak!

Why do you go back??
If I think a place has given me a dodgy tum or full on food poisoning I don't return.
(I obviously hold grudges more than you 😀)

Because I feel like I need to give it that one more go lol!

God some people on here are such arseholes. OP is clearly looking forward to lunch with a friend. There was a similar thread on S&B, OP asking what to wear for a special meal at the Ivy. Cue loads of posters saying how shit it was and not special at all and just somewhere theyd drop in with the kids for tea if they cba cooking. Always someone wanting to piss on your chips.

OP M&C is nothing like an old fashioned beefeater pub. Yes it's a chain but the steaks are always good as is the service ime and £16.99 for a 2 course lunch is an absolute bargain. I'm really partial to the sides you get with the steak- the wedge salad with blue cheese and the onion loaf 😋 . Enjoy.

Yep, a bunch of complete twats that just love to sit there putting people down for their choices. They like to think they are very sophisticated but most are just idiots living a fantasy life pretending they are something they are not.

Hello!

So I’ve just got back in!
We went to Miller and Carter and we had a lovely time!

The food was actually very good!
I went with the steak sandwich in the end because friend insisted we put the voucher towards both meals and I felt bad then opting for something with a surcharge, or adding on extras like the starters, but in the end I was really happy with my choice and the sandwich was delicious. I had the apple pie for dessert and I couldn’t eat it all so friend polished that off too, in addition to a crème brûlée, which they felt was more like a runny custard, so it went well. The ice cream they used was delicious however, so I was really happy with that.

After the voucher was taken off, we ended up splitting £25 between us both, and that included a 10% tip. I mean, you can’t go wrong for that can you! Dinner, dessert and a large drink for £12.50pp including tip.

So it was amazing value for money. We loved it.

We then went to Cribbs and sprayed ourselves with Creed perfumes, tried on everything in Next and had coffees and hotel Chocolat chocolates, which I bought because I felt awful about her spending half her voucher on me.

Got stuck in traffic coming home, but over all had an amazing day! And….I would go back.

Thank you again all!!

That sounds perfect - for both of you. What a lovely friend to have.

Some of the replies on this thread have been extraordinarily miserable. I'm glad to see a happy ending!

HelloHen · 22/07/2024 20:10

Sounds simply divine OP, so glad you & friend enjoyed it.

embit · 22/07/2024 21:09

Glad you had a lovely time OP and enjoyed miller and carter! Can't believe how many miserable people there have been on this thread.

JustMeSammy · 22/07/2024 21:12

My only experience of them was when I found a part of a plastic bag in my nachos. In fairness, they apologised and gave us two free bottles of wine (there were about 20 of us) which I couldn't have any of because I was driving!

Well to be fair, M&C are really similar to Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse, they're an average restaurant chain but if the OP enjoyed herself with her friend, then that's what counts, eh OP? 😉

Thevelvelletes · 22/07/2024 21:49

Nice of your friend to take you to use the voucher.
That's the scenario when we've been.
Wouldn't go through choice.
I do a better steak at home.

ohthejoys21 · 22/07/2024 23:00

Not been for years so not helpful.. if I'm honest I don't even think about a menu untill it's in front of me!

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 22/07/2024 23:52

So pleased you had a good time op!

Horsecalledrhubard · 21/07/2024 22:05

I’m a huge steak fan, and I’m no fancy eater. Longhorns in the US does my all time favourite ribeye. I already know this isn’t going to be Longhorns by a long-shot. But I hope they can cook a decent medium rare fillet. I guess we’ll see!

So you’re used to mediocre chain food then if Longhorn’s is where you set your bar. Sounds like this lunch should be ok then.

Wow. Just why? What made you get up and decide to make a horrible snide remark?

FrenchandSaunders · 23/07/2024 08:33

Glad it went so well OP, sounds like a lovely afternoon.

Ignore the arseholes on here 🤦‍♀️

I expect you thought when posting this that everyone would realise what refined taste you have and how superior you are. Couldn't be further from the truth.

From folks who never get asked out to lunch..

Aworldofmyown · 23/07/2024 10:23

I've eaten in Michelin star restaurants, a 3 star one in New York. All very nice but I also definitely appreciate a nice Miller & Carter lunch or quick Toby Carvery!
Some people are just arseholes.

I guess so. But I appreciate all sorts of food.

If you’re familiar with restaurants in the states, I am a huge fan of Narcoossees and my favourite meal was always the poached twin lobster tails and the almond encrusted cheesecake. Although knowing it’ll cost me about $300 for two of us to eat there now, adds a little sourness.

Im equally happy, perhaps more so, with a sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle and a vanilla milkshake.

I am not a huge fan of pea purees, truffle oils or cauliflower foams etc so I don’t have what you’d call a sophisticated palette.

But the Longhorn ribeye, sweet potato side stuffed with cinnamon sugar, Caesar salad and a beer…I don’t see what’s not to like.

I don’t mind hearing that people don’t like Miller and Carter. I went yesterday not expecting much because of those comments, so was pleasantly surprised. And sometimes restaurants do get it really wrong and it can put a person off for life. Totally get it.

But that last comment about liking mediocre food. That wasn’t an opinion on a restaurant. That felt like a dig at, dare I say it - my class. And I hope I interpreted that incorrectly.

Im working class and not ashamed. I can enjoy all sorts of food. Chain restaurants included. Sometimes I can really enjoy a Tesco meal deal.

It’s a real shame that where a person chooses to eat generates so much judgement. It really wasn’t necessary.

Thank you and others for hopefully reminding this person that people can enjoy all sorts of food. For some people Miller and Carter could be the top end of their dining out budget, and it would be very sad to write this off as mediocre. It was great - fortunately I had a good sitting and I can see why people would really enjoy it.
