Miller and Carter Lunch….decisions decisions

Going to Miller and Carter tomorrow with a pal for the fixed price lunch. Any recommendations?

I quite fancy the steak sandwich??? Anyone tried?

And dessert, well I’d have the profiteroles, but I hate that chocolate ice cream sauce and these days restaurants use that as the dipping sauce?
Or there’s the crème brûlée or apple pie.

Not been for lunch before and I hear mixed reviews.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

We went last week and it was actually lovely, nice steak, good sides, enjoyed the dessert.

Good to hear you had a nice lunch (and day) @Horsecalledrhubard.

Maybe I should give the set lunch a try - it might change my opinion on M&C.

I've eaten in Michelin star restaurants, a 3 star one in New York. All very nice but I also definitely appreciate a nice Miller & Carter lunch or quick Toby Carvery!
Some people are just arseholes.

Oh yes, you can't beat a good Toby carvery! 👍

Best comment!

These threads bring out the food snobs. I've eaten amazing food at £300+ per couple places with tasting menus and matched wines but the double big mac I had yesterday really hit the spot! Nothing wrong with mid priced chains either, ok predictable often, but seriously, they can be convenient and just right often, especially when travelling - I quite like a harvester meal myself.

How about some respect people and remember that £20 lunch specials are top end of budget for many people

mitogoshi · 23/07/2024 11:34

And yes to a Toby, or any carvery for that matter

Deargodletitgo · 23/07/2024 11:39

ugh, I want steak now. I did once go on a date to Miller and Carter, the man in question acted like he was treating me to Michelin starred cuisine. I wasn't sure what to make of the lettuce thing although the steak was nice.

JustMeSammy · 23/07/2024 17:23

i am the same definitely! I love a wetherspoons, but I can and have fully appreciated fine dining too. It's a different experience, not necessarily a worse/better one.

So you’re used to mediocre chain food then if Longhorn’s is where you set your bar. Sounds like this lunch should be ok then.

You sound like a complete twat.

I am really pleased you had a wonderful day with your lovely mate. I feel I am one of those being attacked as “miserable” though and I think thats unfair. My experience of M&C didnt match yours unfortunately but that doesn’t make either of us right or wrong. What is miserable is having a go at people for having a different opinion. Glad you didnt take it that way OP

I had fillet steak at their restaurant in Cardiff a couple of months ago and it was delicious. Had exactly the same dish at their restaurant in Manchester a week ago and it was like cardboard. So, it’s a lottery (and a very expensive one at that.)

Over priced and always give me food poisoning.

I don’t know anyone that goes. They’re seen as pretty naff tbh! Trying to be posh but they’re not, just a bog standard chain restaurant. Prefer our local gastro pub for steak!

Bit stupid to keep going back. Surely if you get food poisoning once somewhere you don't go back.

I've just looked back at what you wrote and the 'attack' definitely is not towards you. You just left your perfectly valid opinion that it is a bit 'chainy' and not for you.

That is very different to what other posters wrote.
