Just got home from doing the shopping to find another Labour leaflet and something from the Lib Dem's.

Still nowt from the Tory.

TimeForRishiByeByes · 29/06/2024 17:15

We've had lit from Tory and labour, my area is traditionally labour but swung last election and is very much a brex-shit- hot spot.
We've had lit from the independents too -rather poke my eyes out- and reform -not a chance in hell-

SerendipityJane · 29/06/2024 17:29

I see the Telegraph has come out batting for the ECHR now. Fancy that !

RishisLeavingDo · 29/06/2024 17:31

Anything to do with private school VAT?

KatPurrson · 29/06/2024 17:33

We’ve had Tory, Labour and SNP leaflets. Tories and SNP also sent letters.

In fact the Tories sent letters to addressed to each of us individually and as one jointly addressed a couple.

We’ve also had a Tory canvasser. The cat stared him down* from the window and he eventually went away.

No, not at all. It seems they have decided that with Reform running riot, the British people need protection from fascists.

Oh. no, that was a decent newspaper in another universe.

In this universe it seems they are getting all moist over the idea that private education is a basic human right and that's how they will catch that well known legal amateur Keir Starmer KC out.

itsgettingweird · 29/06/2024 17:43

I'm loving our current Labour candidate.

Came to my street the other day - first time a politician has visited since 2007 when it was built! Missed her sadly.

Her posts are very real. Even says how residents of town don't hold back when talking to her and neither should people as they have a right to have a say about their local area and the country.

She's too much of an unknown to know how "good" she'll be iyswim but as far as wanting to do the right thing and caring about people as opposed to Bravermans talking at people and ignoring them she 100% has my vote now come next week. I think Ive finally decided <wobbles>

Ah yes, Lord Pannick of Johnson partygate and 115 charges Man City fame

Many many years ago, a lawyer told me that a lawyers opinion is just that until (or unless) it gets before a court. The only difference being that you can get otherwise clever people to stump up for it, even though it's worth fuck all (her words).

At least the permadim have the good economy to save money and invent their own findings.

E2A: I missed this had been released while I was out ..

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2024 17:51

The Telegraph says Lord Pannick thinks the ECHR stops Labour putting VAT on private school fees.

He's wrong, and I think almost every tax lawyer will agree with me.

Thread:

The most important point is a practical one: ECHR challenges can override acts of Ministers/public officials, but can't override Acts of Parliament.

🧵 continues.

Telegraph getting parents hopes up - bloody ridiculous and another sign of how far that newspaper has fallen over the last 20 years.

Spandauer · 29/06/2024 17:52

Still zilch communications from the Tories. Had a few Lib Dem leaflets through the letterbox plus several mailings. Only 1 addressed to DH though I think.
Also just had 1 x Green and 1x Reform leaflets.

The chances of Reform getting in here in uber-woke luvvie-land are absolutely nil!

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2024 17:53

Well an Opinion will rely, in part, on the information provided and the question asked.
Ask stupid questions and get stupid answers.

Don't normally post on this thread - but I thought you would appreciate my name! Currently watching teletubbies with my daughter.
I said to my husband today I am genuinely looking forward to the election for the first time!
Going to take my daughter to the vote and explain it to her as if she would understand it's such an important thing.

Have to say this will be the first time I will be staying up all night to watch first past the post then (fingers crossed) cracking the Lanson to celebrate!!

user8800 · 29/06/2024 17:56

Our mp is driving around in his range rover pulling his own advert hoarding today. Sadly, he usually parks illegally...

He even had to do that when he was still a tory...he was loathed by the LCP and tory councollors (they still voted for him though...)

user8800 · 29/06/2024 17:58

I think it likely the tory candidate will get in here.

The labour candidate doesn't live in the constituency.

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2024 18:08

My cat has just paid direct tax by bringing a bunny in. I screamed. She dropped it. It hid. An hour of hapless swearing later I located saud bunny ( alive). Threw it out of the window. Other cat is now looking for it for me in case I want it.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 29/06/2024 18:26

Oh no! Poor bunny!

I had a Tory leaflet today. Full of lies. Now in bin.

dontcallmelen · 29/06/2024 18:31

Just back from canvassing, in a particularly wealthy part of the town was very surprised at the amount of people saying they were voting Labour, didn’t see one Tory poster did see quite a few Labour ones.

RishisLeavingDo · 29/06/2024 18:35

Nice to know your cat understands political issues and preferences.

So he's not following the Yellow Brick Road and standing for the Lib Dems then?

She was a warrior. It’s thanks to her that we got the Equal Pay Act. She’d have loved Angela.

Barbara Castle by her actions as Transport Secretary saved thousands of lives, by the introduction of the breathalyser and front seat belts in cars, probably at least ten years earlier than would otherwise have happened.

TimeForRishiByeByes · 29/06/2024 18:45

My local MP was in a very rough pub doing karaoke last night (think it was last night my husband showed me the video) it's just so desperate at this stage.

NoDishiForRishi · 29/06/2024 18:46

Inspired by all the Angela Rayner love, I started this a couple of days ago and finished it this afternoon.
