Who would you like to see play the Glastonbury legend a slot?

Always a highlight of the Glastonbury weekend for me, but I was quite surprised to see it’s Shania Twain this year as it doesn’t feel enough time has passed since she hit the big time… but will keep an open mind and I did enjoy dancing to her music in my university days.

I thought it would be interesting to hear who are the favourites of past years and who would be your dream legend. Here’s mine:

Best legend: Dolly Parton
Dream legend: Labi Siffre

I picked Labi Siffre because he has so many hit songs, which have stood the test of time, are widely known and have been covered / sampled by many big names including Eminem, Madness. He is a beautiful singer and still got it despite his age (he is singing in the BBC documentary from last year with Yentob). He is a legend as he’s made a huge mark on music but I don’t think his name is well known.

The Stone Roses would be amazing. If you ignore Ian Brown’s attempts at ‘singing’.

Well, I would have said Jeff Beck, but… 😢

Queen and Adam Lambert but Brian and Michael Eavis hate each other so…

the remain members of Pink Floyd but, again, not gonna happen. Oh well.

SeanMean · 26/06/2024 18:06

Madonna or Cher😻

Actually Tom Jones again would be amazing. Saw him last year and his voice was as strong as ever, quite remarkable. He did need help walking around but he’s still got the voice!

RenoDakota · 26/06/2024 18:09

Agree with pps who said Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.

soberfabulous · 26/06/2024 18:13

Janet Jackson: an icon!

Missy Elliott.

Barry Manilow as the legend needs to be a bit of a showman type and engage well with the audience rather than just do a set.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 26/06/2024 18:18

I agree with Barry Manilow. Saw him on his recent UK tour and it was an absolute blast. He’s still got it, and so many hits.

And I’m pitching again for Micky Dolenz!

Can't wait to see Shania at Glasto (on TV).

Dream legend: Morrissey.

Morrissey for me too

I think he would be headline on Saturday rather than legend slot even though he is a legend

He did, a few years ago but unlike Coldplay most headliners don’t come back year on year! See this is where the ‘legend’ slot gets tricky because if you’ve headlined before it seems odd to then do Sunday afternoon.

stalecrayon · 26/06/2024 18:29

Cher I think would be fabulous
Madonna but only her early stuff
I agree with who said Barry Manilow, I think he’d be good
Duran Duran

piperatthegates · 26/06/2024 18:33

Another vote for Frankie Valli for the legend slot.
If Queen and AL ever did it it should be as headliners (but they won't as a previous poster said Brian and the Eavises don't see eye to eye)
My favourite previous legends are Dolly and Kenny Rogers (don't care if Dolly was miming 😀)

Scorchio84 · 26/06/2024 18:53

Bon Jovi would be savage but year JBJ's voice isn't holding up 💔

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/06/2024 18:57

The Wurzels. West country legends.

JamMakingWannaBe · 26/06/2024 19:22

Moby
Snoop Dogg
Ozzy Osbourne

Moby
Snoop Dogg
Ozzy Osbourne

Saw Ozzy a few years ago at Download and sadly he wasn’t up to much, he really should retire now.

ExcitedforGlasto · 27/06/2024 08:49

Yeah I don’t think Ozzy would be up for it- bless him!
