Who would you like to see play the Glastonbury legend a slot?

Always a highlight of the Glastonbury weekend for me, but I was quite surprised to see it’s Shania Twain this year as it doesn’t feel enough time has passed since she hit the big time… but will keep an open mind and I did enjoy dancing to her music in my university days.

I thought it would be interesting to hear who are the favourites of past years and who would be your dream legend. Here’s mine:

Best legend: Dolly Parton
Dream legend: Labi Siffre

I picked Labi Siffre because he has so many hit songs, which have stood the test of time, are widely known and have been covered / sampled by many big names including Eminem, Madness. He is a beautiful singer and still got it despite his age (he is singing in the BBC documentary from last year with Yentob). He is a legend as he’s made a huge mark on music but I don’t think his name is well known.

Lionel Ritchie was epic. I'm not a massive fan but what an incredible showman.

INXS but alas.....

The Proclaimers

Rockschooldropout · 26/06/2024 12:00

Eagles would be great - my mum went to see them a few weeks ago and said it was fantastic
Rolling Stones
We saw Sister Sledge at a recent music festival and they were amazing

Really? That's sad. I heard him in concert a few years ago and was amazed he could still sing. (Just about)

He was ill that week.

ELO
Fleetwood Mac
Van Morrison

Levellers, they so deserve it. They were Glastonbury for a while.

Oh please no 🤣😳

ExcitedforGlasto · 26/06/2024 14:06

@CharlieBalf I’m pretty sure on an podcast interview last year, Emily Eavis said Glastonbury has been trying to get Fleetwood Mac to perform for years- it’s the ultimate act for t, but probably too late now without Christine.

I seem to recall they can’t afford FM due to their commitment to charity donations. Acts don’t get paid silly money at Glastonbury, which is probably why Taylor Swift hasn’t done it either. Only bands who love it (Coldplay) or really need it will take the lower fees.

Just Stevie Nicks alone would be amazing especially if FM let her sing songs she wrote for them like Landslide

I saw Stevie Nicks a few years ago and it was a terrific night. She'd be amazing.
Or Carole King.

hollyblueivy · 26/06/2024 16:18

Celine Dion

Sunset6 · 26/06/2024 16:21

Sting would be good

Awww don't be hating on Shania! I reckon she'll get a good reaction

Changingplace · 26/06/2024 16:41

Dolly was absolutely incredible.

I actually think they should rethink the ‘legends’ slot because it’s clearly becoming more and more difficult to find someone suitable, a lot of the acts people have mentioned have headlined before and I think it suggests someone at a point in their career where they’re almost retiring so I can imagine why a lot wouldn’t want it and would push for the headline instead.

I’m really surprised Shania Twain is doing it this year on that basis, but I think she’ll be brilliant.

Taylor Swift was announced to headline in 2020 when it was cancelled, so she’s not turned it down due to money. I think she’ll be on in a few years after her tour has finished.

SoManyBadgers · 26/06/2024 16:45

Neil Sedaka or Barry Manilow.

Moier · 26/06/2024 16:51

The Cure!
Van Morrisons.
Lisa Standsfield.

beguilingeyes · 26/06/2024 09:46

Dolly was miming...

Van Morrison would be amazing. Stevie Wonder perfect. Most of the people I'd like to see are gone or retired now...George Michael, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger.
Eagles maybe, or Journey? Can you imagine Don't Stop Believing on the Pyramid stage?!

Journey still tour but not with Steve Perry, they've got a younger guy from the Philippines. I saw them a few years ago, they were fantastic!

AgnesX · 26/06/2024 16:54

After the agony that was Diana Ross and Brian Wilson anyone with a good back catalogue who can still sing.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/06/2024 17:01

Bowie

And Yes Yes Yes to Roxy Music.

Yes, it's 1978 in my heart.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2024 17:04

I also thought Dolly was miming, much as I love her generally. Cher would probably mime too tbh.

I think Take That or Robbie maybe…

Giggorata · 26/06/2024 17:06

Of those still with us: Tool, Muse,

Of those, some of whom are still with us: PinkFloyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes,

NotAgain1963 · 26/06/2024 17:06

Depeche Mode. Do they count as a legend?

rewilded · 26/06/2024 17:07

Stevie Wonder
Barry Manilow
Stevie Nicks
Oh if Prince was still with us.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 26/06/2024 17:08
