Who would you like to see play the Glastonbury legend a slot?

Always a highlight of the Glastonbury weekend for me, but I was quite surprised to see it’s Shania Twain this year as it doesn’t feel enough time has passed since she hit the big time… but will keep an open mind and I did enjoy dancing to her music in my university days.

I thought it would be interesting to hear who are the favourites of past years and who would be your dream legend. Here’s mine:

Best legend: Dolly Parton
Dream legend: Labi Siffre

I picked Labi Siffre because he has so many hit songs, which have stood the test of time, are widely known and have been covered / sampled by many big names including Eminem, Madness. He is a beautiful singer and still got it despite his age (he is singing in the BBC documentary from last year with Yentob). He is a legend as he’s made a huge mark on music but I don’t think his name is well known.

I'd say Rodders, but don't think he's got the voice for it any more.

Kate Bush.

Oh yes. Imagine that. She'd be perfect.

I'd like Paul Simon. Wouldn't happen though.

The best ‘legends’ are often on the smaller stages…..we saw Bananarama on the Avalon Stage…..dancing to Robert de Niro waiting was the hilight of the festival to me! … we saw Keane on the Acoustic Stage and that was amazing….,equally on a par with Dolly, Lionel and Kylie on the traditional pyramid legend spot

Would love to have seen a Keane acoustic set. Was it amazing?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 25/06/2024 23:56

I was really hoping to see Steve Nicks this year 😭

EachandEveryone · 25/06/2024 23:58

Cher. Barbra Streisand who would never ever do it😃 same with Madonna. I think all the good ones have done that slot now. I do think Simply Red could give it a go. Duran Duran and maybe some other 80’s bands together.

im missing it for the first time in 23 years it feels like the end of an era🙁

yesmen · 25/06/2024 23:58

Supertrsmp? 😁

Heard them on the radio the other day. They were a great band.

He did it and failed sadly as his voice had gone.

RockyRogue1001 · 26/06/2024 00:02

David Bowie 😢

Really? That's sad. I heard him in concert a few years ago and was amazed he could still sing. (Just about)

JobMatch3000 · 26/06/2024 00:34

Bros
Salt n Pepa
Richard Marx
Bon Jovi
Celine Dion

Alex Drake · 26/06/2024 00:47

Billy Ocean!
So many great songs, he still tours and is still amazing live.
Big Billy fan.

paisley256 · 26/06/2024 00:58

Paul Weller

Time40 · 26/06/2024 00:58

Kate Bush is a great idea - she would be a brilliant legend.

Jethro Tull

Peter Gabriel

EachandEveryone · 26/06/2024 01:15

Most of them have already played though it’s hard to even think of anyone that would do that slot now. Kate could never do a Sunday afternoon 😀

DontThinkJustDo · 26/06/2024 02:42

Depeche Mode

Scissorsisters · 26/06/2024 05:31

Barry Manilow

I hoped Bruce might reappear... I
Absolutely LOVED Cat Stevens last year. My Mum and I watched on tv.. Next to seeing Bruce at Hyde Park that was the highlight of my year... 💙 💙

Cher would be pretty amazing I think.

Or Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music.

Omg Roxy Music is a great suggestion. That would be fantastic.

ExcitedforGlasto · 26/06/2024 09:24

Yes Roxy music would be amazing but alas I don’t think they have played together in a long time!

Bruce would be awed- everyone would love that

@Elderflower14 i also loved Cat Stevens last year- now he’s a proper legend. I was surprised to see him using his original name

Bruce Springsteen. My 20 year old son and his mates love him!

CollaterlieSistersSister · 26/06/2024 09:39

Micky Dolenz, the last surviving Monkee.

beguilingeyes · 26/06/2024 09:46

Dolly was miming...

Van Morrison would be amazing. Stevie Wonder perfect. Most of the people I'd like to see are gone or retired now...George Michael, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger.
Eagles maybe, or Journey? Can you imagine Don't Stop Believing on the Pyramid stage?!

Username2101 · 26/06/2024 10:26

My ideal legends would be

Brian Adams

Metallica

Hall and Oats! But I think they hate each other now.

Phil Collins
