Have they not noticed that their current troubles are firmly rooted in the mess that he started?

He has funny hair, was ambushed by a cake Confused

I was thinking about this further and worked out the answer to my own question. I'm sure that their response would be to put in place their very own version of the workhouse.

I think Reform could be shooting itself in the foot there.

Some of its support comes from people who are impoverished, have been left behind and want to blame immigrants for their woes, doesn't it? Farage has chosen Clacton for that reason. For example, Jaywick has 50% unemployment.

Are they really going to vote for a party that threatens to take away their benefits?

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2024 23:01

"Are they really going to vote for a party that threatens to take away their benefits?"

That assumes people are paying close attention to detail - & it requires the media to hammer that point home.

I think people are exhausted and busy.

DuncinToffee · 17/06/2024 23:01

People won't read the manifesto, immigrants are the cause of all problems is easier to believe

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 17/06/2024 23:03

It also requires people to understand he means them. Their benefits. Their families.
Their opportunities etc.

IClaudine · 17/06/2024 23:04

Depressingly, you are both probably right.

Farage needs to be on the GE bingo card. I know he has no seat to lose, but if he fails to win Clacton it will be a very good moment.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/06/2024 23:11

Yep. It’ll be other people’s benefits not their benefits. The surprise will come later, very much like some of the Brexit ‘benefits’. Like any EU policy applied to 3rd countries being applied to us now we are not in the EU and are a 3rd country.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/06/2024 23:14

Trying to think of which Brexiteer MP or journalist or was that complained we no longer had any MEPs.

I wonder if Trump''s 38 guilty verdict had anything to do with it

Popb*tch last week said Farage jacked in his American ambitions after noone realised or cared who he was in conservative circles

Farage's appearance at CPAC this year wasn't exactly a barnstormer. Attendees said he spent most of his time wandering around aimlessly, surrounded by right wingers who couldn't give a shit about That Weird Bloke In The Tweed Suit.

June Mummery.

Now Reform candidate for Lowestoft.

Might have been posted already but this site lists details of each candidate standing by constituency.

https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/

And the really good thing is they list where they stood for election before

So you can check which independent candidates were previously UKIP

I think you might be right. Although also Dories, unsurprisingly.

I had either McVey or Hartley-Brewer in my head.

They are getting more desperate

Boris Johnson is being drafted in by the Tories to play a more active role in the election campaign

Tens of thousands of letters signed by Boris landing on doormats this week in a targeted mail-out

Also recent chats about in person campaigning

They are definitely trying to lose! It's so odd!

No, because they all have selective memories.

All they do remember is the 80 seat majority in 2019 and think that Boris can do that for them again.

It's like the Second Coming of The Messiah to them. And wouldn't Boris just love that.

Parents planning to disrupt labours VAT plans on private school fees by pretending they will remove their children even if they don’t plan to. Who would have guessed?

Like others have said, there was a thread last week about it but you know, “playground mums” are everywhere - even in private school (but they all
drive old bangers, wear 20 year old clothes and look haggard from working their back to back jobs for their “sacrifice”).

Bravo! That is fabulous.

Notonthestairs · 18/06/2024 06:58

"I think you might be right. Although also Dories, unsurprisingly. "

Dorries definitely complained that we'd lose a seat at the EU table.

Makes you wonder if they read/understood anything.

Also makes you wonder whether they were equipped to represent anyone at all.

Heavenssakes · 17/06/2024 22:42

@Thingscanonlygetsunk

I would love you to be right.

My gut feeling says otherwise.

There is Brexit to factor in as well. Around 50% of those who voted, voted against it, polling suggests that others have realised it may not be working quite as promised. Farage was the face of Brexit, will people forgive that?

BIossomtoes · 18/06/2024 07:04

Loving the bingo card. The night of 4/5 June is great to be the best time I’ve had for ages.

Going to be even. I hate autocorrect.

Why the fuck is Farage getting so much air time. He is on LBC again. He is using poverty in Wales and Merthyr in particular to try to whip up votes.

Oh. Now he is trying to minimise the candidate who said Hitler was OK or what ever. And he says he was deliberately scuppered by the candidate vetting company he used. Full story to come and sounds as though he will claim he was set up by the establishment.

God. My blood pressure.

Because there is naff all else happening in this election. Sunak quit a week ago. Starmer is still clutching his ming vase, and Ed Davey's stunts have got dull.

🤭I am sure every time Farage opens his fag-scented-beery-breathed gob a butterfly dies or something. He is poisoning the very air of the UK.
