I'm enjoying the Lib Dems whenever I see any of their policies. He seems to be far more honest and gets to the point and what people are really worried about without the identity politics of "them or us" both main parties seem to keep falling into.

SerendipityJane · 14/06/2024 21:06

The LibDems being the second largest party would be a fitting revenge after the Tories shafted them in 2015. A beautifully apposite conjunction with Brexit destroying the Tories

I wonder IF Labour wins (not jinxing it) and if Lib Dems and Tories win the same number of seats; how will the leader of the opposition be decided?

Will they have a rota or will it be a fight to the death (which Ed Davey would be well up for).

I keep seeing polls that Reform may pip Tories...not sure how realistic that is though. Haven't been keeping as up to date on here as so busy!

I am actually a bit worried the Libs being under Labour would again look like they gave it all away as they were made out to be saps with the Tories, despite us seeing what happened after they were not re-elected. I think their views on EU is a big vote puller for remainers who are disenchanted with the main parties (me included) and I wouldn't want to see that watered down to appease the Labour voters who still have fingers in their ears as to the realities of Brexit.

Reform may pip Tories in polls/votes but it doesn't translate to seats.

CassieMaddox · 14/06/2024 21:55

Electoral calculus has reform on 6 seats as their high estimate so I'm not too worried. Would love to see an LD opposition and its just about possible

@Notonthestairs

And it helps when you've got a television station fronted by Andrew Neil and countless desperate MPs pumping out opinion pieces 24x7.

Ah I saw a tweet with charts from this. Voting intent based on what channel most watched.

https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/westminster-voting-intention-by-media-consumption-7-10-june/

GB news the outlier with overwhelming support for Reform . Itv viewers far more likely to vote Labour than BBC

Andrew Neil left GB News weeks after it started because it was not what he envisaged it. It was not a place for free speech.

It's a Knockout style!

Evenstar · 14/06/2024 22:09

I have just had to report someone on Facebook for sharing that fake image of Keir Starmer with Jimmy Savile. I am considering unfriending them, it’s someone I have known since 1986, I knew they voted Conservative but I thought better of them.

Cheguevarahamster · 14/06/2024 22:18

That's awful. I had to pull up one of my work colleagues, when they mentioned they didn't like Starmer due to "letting off Saville". Its a very lazy thing to fall for.

IClaudine · 14/06/2024 22:21

Johnson started the Saville slur, didn't he? It is really disgusting.

Evenstar · 14/06/2024 22:22

It shows how toxic politics has become under this government and particularly under Johnson and his total lack of morals, that smear originated with him.

Zonder · 14/06/2024 22:44

Does anyone know why Farge isn't on Question Time next week? They've got the leaders of the 4 largest parties but not him.

The Greens have 1 MP - maybe they should be on?

How do you qualify to be on QT?

Marina Hyde on Sunak. Portrait of a social climber, but still an outsider despite his riches

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jun/14/rishi-sunak-class-system-ripley-saltburn

I'm remembering that story about Posh Spice's dad taking her to school in a Rolls Royce, which of course they would have thought made them look posh but in fact marked them out as anything but

I inadvertently got invited to a "black tie" do at a very rich person's house.
The very rich people wore black tie suits with slippers, or casual black outfits
The hoi polloi were try hard in fancy clothes
It was quite eye opening

Reform got no vote share in the last election so don't count 🤷‍♀️?

tobee · 14/06/2024 22:58

Yeah and Farage is kicking up a fuss.

I hope they don't cave on Farage.

Something relatively minor on the political front when it comes to womens health. I have a pregnant colleague who suffers with hay-fever. Other than over the counter meds that don't do a lot, there is nothing she can take.
You would have thought some consideration would have been given to this down the years. They can give a bloke an erection, but can't provide proper health care to pregnant women.

tobee · 14/06/2024 10:41

Yes I think plenty are LibDem, Green and SNP. (Not sure about Plaid?). And some will vote tactically I daresay.

I’m semi-Plaid. Vote for them in some local elections and have a huge amount of time for what they say. Very little point in a Westminster election though as Wales has so few constituencies (and even fewer this time) that they will never be able to Weill any serious influence (maybe if we change to PR?).

grey gardens documentary GIF

I'm not sure if there's a term for it. Possibly "shabby genteel"? But that implies once were wealthy and now straightened circumstances (Withnail I guess, or in America it's Grey Gardens)

It's Tories, labour, LD and SNP. All have more than 1 MP so it makes sense to get them on. I wondered why I hadn't heard of Farage complaining but it seems he is.

That's my feeling but they do seem to be on the rise 🤢 so I'm sure many would say he should be on.
